This wouldn't be the first time people or their families have been close to two mass shootings.

This kid in Parkland was in the school during the shootings, and his mother was in the Fort Lauderdale airport the year before when a shooter killed 5.

This woman was in the crowd in Vegas when dozens were killed, and she worked at the place the San Bernardino shooter had targeted two years earlier.

I imagine bar lighting isn't the most ideal setup to get a good look at the guy shooting at you. Of course, the early reports that he was middle eastern will fuel cover up conspiracies for years. People are still claiming there was a second shooter on a lower floor of Mandalay Bay when it was almost immediately debunked as a strobe light.

I looked into getting a gun, but my reason is for these mass shootings, not defending my household. I wouldn't be able to do anything in these situations even if I had a gun..

I really wonder what it will take for gun legislation to pass

Do mass shootings need to happen every week? Every day?

How many more deaths is it going to take

Shootings are frequent enough where its not unlikely that being in one is a once in a lifetime event. Always make sure you are wearing shoes you can run in.

Unknown middleasterners are everywhere these days
It's like what they do with all PoC. It's NEVER a White assailant, it was always "some Black guy" or "some Mexican/Puerto Rican guy"! Some White people are so conditioned into believing that crimes acts of terrorism are commited by non-Whites, when that stuff happens to THEM, the immediately shut the possibility of their attacker being "White" out the door. "But, only Middle Easterners are terrorists. Of COURSE terrorists can't be WHITE!! And what would White people mug other White people for? That's stuff Black and Brown people do to White people!!"

That it's the first go-to some people have, "Oh, he's Middle Eastern", is pretty sick. Howabout, "I don't fuckin' KNOW who the guy is? He could be ANYBODY! I didn't ask him who he was, I was too busy saving my own ass to care!"

Why would the eye witness be racist? It was dark and the scene was chaotic, seriously? The guys eyes were red and bloodshot and he wasn't really in a good way during the interview.
Us brown people are guilty until proven innocent and the first thought enemies, the villains.

Rip to victims. America just doesn't care about these gun situations

Seeing reports of a guy who broke out windows and saved as many as 30 people by helping them or throwing them out. On mobile, can't link, hopefully someone else will.

Look to the helpers, always.

The interviews of the girls at the shooting for this are so weird. I don't even know what to say. I have no idea what is going on in American anymore.

Such a nightmare, what a tragedy.
I have coworkers who have been/planned to go to that bar .
Not a single reason for someone to do something like this.
1 story of a Mother protecting her children from an intruder and gun slingers get a hard on.
Think about these stories

Thousand Oaks is such a nice area not far from the homes of many celebrities.
I'm saddened for those who've lost their lives.

500 people shot in one event little less than a year ago. MDS, The Synagogue shooting, the gaming tournament shooting in Jacksonville, and now this. Nothing is going to be done with those in power.

What would make them change? Sadly, them being the targets and victims. Until they feel the impact themselves, have fear, and no longer care about the bottom line, will something change.

Well that was a fun ~3 hours of my family waking up and unable to get in contact with my cousin who goes to Pepperdine. He's fine, not at the bar just a heavy sleeper and the lovely nature of a 3 hour time difference.

This shit really needs to stop, yet I have no faith in those in power to actually do anything.

Republican politicians and their families dying.

Only possible thing that can happen to cause change.

Headline after that happens: Lawmakers introduce legislation for if individuals target registered Republicans or Republican politicians*. Instantly to get shot (and their families) in the head by police .

*fuck everybody else

Nah, there was a gunman who targeted a softball game where Republicans were shot at and one was seriously wounded, but no opinions changed.

The only scenario where laws are changed is if Fox News suddenly started showing video of large amounts of non-whites openly carrying firearms around white people. Even then, any laws would be specifically shaped to to make it more difficult for non-whites to own and carry firearms.

The sheriff is giving a press conference. Foreign reporter asked him why he thought this kind of mass shooting was taking place more in the US than any other first world country. The sheriff said he didn't know, if he knew he would solve it.

Fucking coward.

The description of him killing security, then a staff member first makes me think he likely had a grudge against this particular establishment. It would have been a very random target for a terrorist attack (domestic or otherwise).

So, a 28 year old white male with a history of some contacts with the law. Former Marine. History of an intervention for anger and irrational behavior. The pattern fits, unfortunately. Dammit.

This is just down the 101 from me. RIP to those young people, security people, and the Sheriff Deputy.

That could also reflect his military training. Take out the immediate threat, like the people trained to respond to intruders, then concentrate on the students.

It would take a Purge-level event to change things. We're talking massive amounts of people taking to the streets with AR-15s just unloading GTA Online style.

I'm not even kidding.

Those middle eastern guys in the caravan are crossing over and committing mass shootings already? Oh wait, just another white guy.

Everyone turned a blind eye to toddlers being ripped to fucking shreds by an assault rifle. Forget cunts like Trump. Guns are the single biggest problem in the United States.

A country built by guns, and ultimately destroyed by them.

What a sorry state of affairs.

---white, male, American citizen, ex-US Marine, trained with firearms, with legally purchased handgun.

^All those things above are usually used by the Right to JUSTIFY owning a gun and proper gun ownership. In fact, most conservatives suggest USING VETS, LIKE THIS GUY, as armed guards in schools.

This guy murdered 12 people, including a cop with his gun and his firearm training probably made him much more accurate and lethal with it.

How exactly do you profile THAT GUY ahead of time? How does an armed guard or armed citizens react to a perfectly profiled 'non-threat' like this guy?

One member of the GOP got shot and survived, it's pretty different narrative than the daily occurrence of innocents dying.
