The controllers and ports are standard USB? So the controllers should be able to be used with any standard HID compatible device.
Also could you possibly used a wired DS3 or DS4 to use analog controls with the games.
And honestly outside of only have one save state spot instead of 4 I don't see how this is anymore "barebones" than the NES or SNES classic.
Having messed around disapprovingly with the menus, I settled after an hour or so on Jumping Flash, that bizarre first-person platformer that has always sat awkwardly, brilliantly, between the soft abstraction of 16-bit games and the more recognisable, harder edges that the PlayStation was about to usher in, and all of a sudden I'm transported back to Christmas Day, 1995, and am filled with that same sense of wide-eyed wonder.
Can it even get modded? Most PSX games are like 500mb so unless there's a lot of left over storage...90 quid, PAL roms, no scanlines, crap game selection, input lag. It could only be worse if it came with a turd in the box.
Only question is cancel pre order or keep just in case it gets modded, or is super rare to sell on.
That grey one is the original, in the UK at least at launch. I think the day-glow highlights and purple came later.

This isn't a horrible list by any means, but seriously no Crash or Spyro?
Nintendo didn't bother as well on their NES classic the emulator is nothing more than the BSD version of Higan stripped of all of the other cores (so GB / GBC / GBA / SNES)You'd think they would at least match Nintendo. They didn't even do that. They did even bother developing a emulator at all, it seems.
Question: people are mentioning the UI. What does the UI look like? I'm not seeing screenshots.
But but, Tekken 3 and Toshinden!... :(This is basically the 2nd repurposing of the Vita internals after PSTV, but with worse emulation apparently and way less functionality than a PSTV.
Forget your Nostalgia, the practical choice would be to just buy a PSTV. They're cheaper than this, they play all the PS One Classics, they play Vita and PSP games and they support DS3 and DS4 controllers.
To a european like me that wanted to play the european release of the original games ... Yes I'm sorry the NES classic was a slapped dashed job.
Ah that could workPerhaps modded and stripped of the stock ISOs is the better phrase, I'd remove 95% of the line up. Imagine if their FF7 dump is 50hz pal squash-o-vision. I will relive all of my 25 years ago nightmares.
Not at all, The psclassic has a bunch of great games, yes there are some I wish were on it but it's nothing like the thing your saying.I don't quite get it.
Imagine if the NES classic lacked all of the SMB games, had Mega Man 1 instead of 2, had zero CV games, and the aforementioned absences were replaced with early gen games like Baseball and Pro Wrestling, and then you'd have what the PSClassic is like.
use the P2 slot for a usb drive. with the emulator being what it is this should be easy to hack. I mean on the snes classic they rigged one up for the power usb slot, this should be a lot easier, especially since it's using an open source emulatorCan it even get modded? Yeah I remember that. It was the grey squares in PAL land for launch. I think... later on the PAL systems got the purple UI.
As someone with a Vita TV. If your aim is to play PS1 games the best option would be to get a PS3. I'm incredibly disappointed with Vita TV PS1 performance. It's really weird because PS1 games play great on a regular Vita. This is basically the 2nd repurposing of the Vita internals after PSTV, but with worse emulation apparently and way less functionality than a PSTV.

How was the SNES CLASSIC better than the NES CLASSIC?Well the Nes classic was underwhelming and then they made the snes classic and it was already a bit better (still has miles of improvements to receive) .
So Sony going all "me too" at the last minute leading to a fairly underwhelming first iteration is nothing too surprising really ...
That says more about you than it does about Nintendo's effort. As PAL gamer myself, thank fucking god they chose not to mess with the PAL version like that.
Each game has three save states on Nintendo's Mini consolesI think the UI's fine, it's retro. Just the single save file is a shame, is that the same for Nintendo retro consoles?
doubtful, I mean, using an opensource emulator points to it being unsecured XDNow that I didnt know, interesting.
Unless Sony pull the ultimate low blow and secure the hell out of it, compared to the NES mini which I believe had a message in the code about placing roms here.

Okay fine then how about I want to show my kids Contra vs Probotector then ? Can't do that has the original Contra but not the Probotector version.
Wait, what? This can't be real, Sony is making us play the horrid 50Hz versions???the kotaku article is saying that many games are the PAL version
that would explain if they feel off
fucking why?
