Memory cards are the single biggest inconvenience of mid-90s/early 2000s gaming I do not miss at all. I got a Dreamcast for Christmas 99 and GameCube for Christmas 01 and it was the same story both times, stores were completely sold out of memory cards for weeks. Even with the Dreamcast I had to settle for a shitty third party one that didn't have a screen and didn't work properly (Sonic Adventure would only save Chao data for some reason, it wouldn't save anything from the main adventure mode).Oh dang, I didnt know that. I think I started my life with Playstation a little late. When I first got it, the Dual Shock was already available, and I believe it shipped with our console (I could be wrong, I was young). I have such fond memories of that console, but whenever I tell people about them, they all really seem like downers. Like how we never had a memory card until the PS2, so playing games that were long required us to keep the console on for days at a time.
I really want this thing...but I don't care for a good few of the games. I am really hoping that its able to load other games similar to the snes mini.

Can't imagine how crazy the Japanese launch of the PS2 was, where you needed a memory card to play DVDs. Glad they stripped that requirement out for the US model.
The VMU was a necessity if you wanted to raise Chao too, trying to do it all in-game was miserable. For one thing, the Dreamcast versions wouldn't even display your Chao stats onscreen, you had to put them in the VMU to check, and that was the only way you could name them (the GameCube versions let you do this in the Garden itself).Whoa I never even knew about that for the Japan released PS2. That would have been so bogus. I remember wanting a Dreamcast so bad to play Sonic Adventure and to raise a Chao. I never got one, but my friend at the time did, so I asked for a DC Memory card for xmas so I could raise a Chao (Like a tomogachi) but when I finally got the memory card, he had sold Sonic Adventure. I was so bummed. All of my memories with memory cards have been bad haha
This is me right here.Damnit, I can't decide if I want to cancel my preorder or not. The NES and SNES mini perfectly captured my childhood so there was no hesitation at all about buying them, but this list of games doesn't really feel like the PS1 games I had growing up. But at the same time, they're not necessarily bad games, either.
It's this. It's the usual " copy thing someone else is doing that is interesting/ successful, but don't really commit the appropriate resources and care".Then again, this could also just be part of the usual Sony half-assing everything that isn't a main console release.
Personally I think it has a good chance of being hacked quickly, especially if it has a similar exploit to the nes/Snes classics. Although there's plenty of stuff on the built in list I've wanted to try so I'll live either wayAt this point it's the only reason I'm hanging on to it. I'll wait for a week or so after it releases without opening it, and if it looks like it can't be hacked it's going back. The list as-is isn't nearly good enough to warrant keeping.

The inclusion of Revelations: Persona and GTA 1 ( 2 awful games that were only included because of name recognition) tells you everything you need to know about their misguided priorities.
Precisely! It's along the lines of a streaming box without streaming services, 720p output max and the need to use proprietary memory cards. It reminds me of some of the characters chosen for PlayStation All-Stars, like DmC Dante and Raiden. Like they completely missed the point of the game.
Because, in the case of Tomb Raider at least, PC gaming scene is huge for it. PC has always had the expanded editions of the first three, the Level Editor, and even the infamous mod of nude Raider. Its story is strongly tied with PC. PlayStation is only a part.I know about the other platforms but can't see how Tomb Raider and Wipeout can be seen as anything but PlayStation.
Yeah, and the same goes for Rainbow Six just because Siege is massively popular nowadays. The device doesn't target (potentially lapsed) gamers from back in the day, it's misguidedly trying to sell archaically dated games to a modern audience that's largely just into cinematic gaming, graphics and e-sports.It's this. I caved in and cancelled, I would've loved one and there are some big games on there, but I realised that I want one for nostalgia, so to miss the games I'm actually most nostalgic for would make it not worthwhile for me. I would've been happy with just one each from these series: Crash, Spyro, Gran Turismo, Wipeout, Tomb Raider, Silent Hill. It's a shame they're all absent. Half of that is clearly licensing issues and recent remakes but that doesn't make them any less of a loss. I can see the value in it for a lot of people though if the games list aligns more with their taste.
RE Director's Cut has the original soundtrack. RE Director's Cut DualShock Version is the one with the shitty soundtrack. Is resident evil: director's cut included here, the bad one or is there one with the original soundtrack? That could be the tipping point for me.
Why? The PS3 is backwards compatible with PS1 games.Even if it is hackable you still have to deal with a lack of space and the bad controllers. Hacking a ps3 seems a better alternative to play PSX games.
I know but if you buy a PS1 classic purely for hacking it a PS3 might be a cheaper solution. Then there is the fact that PS1 games are region locked even on PS3.
It's not that much more cheaper. Also the p2 usb slot could be used for memory expansion(a usb drive is an easy choice, you could even use a splitter)Even if it is hackable you still have to deal with a lack of space and the bad controllers. I noticed that some of games on PlayStation Classic are sourced from PAL (European) versions of the games, with the remainder being NTSC (American) versions.
I think "the bad one" was called DualShock edition, as I remember. Director's cut, at least in Europe, was with the original soundtrackIs resident evil: director's cut included here, the bad one or is there one with the original soundtrack? That could be the tipping point for me.
People were probably sick of THPS by the time 4 came out. I know I was.I've just re-read this entire thread. It was highly amusing and totally worthwhile.
My biggest question: Why do so many people seem to have mad love for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2? My memory was hazy so I checked YouTube to see which one(s) I played to death at the time of release - turns out it was all of them! But THPS4 was probably the standout for me. Why do so many rate THPS2 over THPS4?
