For sure, but seeing that I don't have to edit 4k video I'm good for now. Would be good to see site open up the file system or at least allow external drives to work as scratch disks.

Also surprised to see you here seeing your aggressive dislike of the ipad. :P
eh I like the ipad, I was seriously considering getting one but tachiyomi is on android only. Seriously the best comic/manga reader. And thats my primary use case for my tablet so makes sense.

I was just thinking about this. I have some video files on an external Thunderbolt 3 drive I'd love to test out editing on the iPad, but I can't just plug it in (even though the USB-C port will fit). I could upload them to the cloud but it's like 35GB total. I could probably wait until an app like Documents is updated to support external media, assuming that's going to happen.

Seriously a conundrum.
So i've spent the morning downloading mp4s from google drive to my local. My original plan was to put the folders with these files on my desktop since iOS sees files on the desktop as iCLOUD files. However, after a few minutes of this I realized how stupid this was and decided to just upload them directly to a folder on my iCLOUD. However, 40 gigs is a VERY slow upload. This started to annoy me because I actually have ALL of these files locally on my laptop. So now, i'm sloooooowly transferring these files onto an SD card, then using the the USB-C SD card reader i bought with the iPAD to get them onto the device. At that point, i'm hoping that Luma Fusion can import them so I can start video editing.

I actually experimented with Adobe Rush because I have a Creative Cloud account. I believe that Rush pulls from the local photos folder. My hope is that RUSH syncs with Premiere on desktops. I don't want to edit that way, but i'm experimenting with workflows to see if this iPAD can actually be a legit viable creative platform. I was a little excited earlier because the idea of not having to bring my laptop with me is exciting. I didn't buy the keyboard, so it's all Pencil/iPAD, which is a little new to me as I don't drag and drop, but I'm willing to learn.

But damn, Apple, do you have to make it so difficult to get media into the system??? I've been at this for 4 hours already!

Yeah been trying to find solutions for that. Have manga storm for now which seems pretty decent. Gonna play around a bit more to see what's best.

I decided I'm just gonna airdrop them from my Mac, which puts them in the Photos app, then from Photos select "Add to Files" and add it to On My iPad->LumaFusion->User Media. That counts as importing it into LumaFusion, and having it use local storage instead of cloud storage.

The reason I'm going the "Add to Files" route instead of using the share sheet to Copy to LumaFusion is because my media is in HEVC, and anytime you share out of the Photos app it'll convert it to h.264. Not a big problem, but I want to just import them as-is.

The SD card reader will ONLY import into the Photos app, nothing else. So you'll have to do one of those two methods: share out to LumaFusion or deposit it in the UserMedia folder in On My iPad.

I know this is gonna get fixed in iOS 13 but c'mon.

Got my iPad Pro 11 - surprised to see apps need to be updated to take advantage of the rounded corners.

I'm jelly, my iPad Pro 2 12.9" seems ancient now, but it's still super good for my simple use, so I won't budge. By the time I upgrade hopefully we'll have new screen tech, either OLED or microLED. It's the one field missing for this upgrade to be "perfection", hardware-wise. Well, that and the headphone jack - though I understand its removal in phones, the space in a tablet isn't at that much of a premium and they didn't remove it from the Macs either.

Either way, the design is absolutely beautiful, I always favor the flat surfaces and hard corners. The design change from iPad 1 to 2 was actually disappointing to me!

I guess that me the lesser of two evils. I'll try that. Few things annoy me more than airdrops that don't finish.

My first attempt at using Procreate. I really wouldn't want to be without the new Pencil's double tap feature. Love this thing.

Got my Pencil and keyboard folio in the mail but gotta wait til Friday for the iPad Pro. The keyboard had a defect on the finish.. a tiny little bump that I thought was a little dust or something but it started to scrape off when I rubbed it.

Dang. It's the one thing that bugs me. I want it gone. It serves no purpose

Some apps (like games) can hide it and you have to tap the area to show it. But - it acts as the home button indicator for landscape and portrait orientation so you know where to swipe to go home (not always the bottom of the screen, for instance, like in the camera app), and you can swipe it left/right for multitasking.

Played around with the 11" in store. I typically hold the iPad in landscape with my left hand. Seems like the FaceID sensor would be easily covered like this? Has anyone had any problems with your hand covering the sensor?

The screen brightness has me a bit worried because I like to draw outside with the iPad. Can someone take it outside during the day and try using it in full brightness please? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Got the 12.9 and Smart Keyboard Cover.

So far so good, but I really don't like how the keyboard sticks out on the back. Is there no way to fold it so the keys are facing inward? The previous smart keyboard cover didn't have this problem, what gives?

Is there a way to get rid of the ugly home bar or whatever it's called on the bottom?

Is there also a way to change the gesture to go to home? That one's more of a curiosity, I don't think I'll have too much trouble getting used to swiping up. But I really want that ugly bar to go away.

apparently the pencil doesn't include extra tips, despite being $30 more than the previous one?

man, the nickel and dimeing is getting absurd.

I'd love a way to make the home bar thing disappear for good. Not the app shortcuts, the bar that appears to remind you about swiping up.

Shit's distracting when reading PDFs or whatever.

Yeah, I'm not a fan. The keyboard is definitely better and sturdier than the old one but I often wrap the cover behind the iPad instead of actually using the keyboard. I might just switch to a regular cover and keep a keyboard around for when I need it.

I've always kept my previous cover wrapped behind the iPad, so this is a bummer.

I might end up returning it as well, sticking to a regular cover until someone creates a better keyboard cover.

And it seems the home bar will disappear with videos, but that's it. Might be a little thing I'll get used to, but I do wish there was just a way to hide it.

just hold it on the side that doesn't have faceid......

If I rotate the iPad then the pencil will be magnetically attached at the bottom. It could be a non-issue, I was just wondering how people that use the iPad in a similar fashion (landscape, holding with left hand on a couch) found the FaceID sensor. I kinda wish Apple would consider iPads to be landscape first devices and move the camera to where the pencil magnetically attaches. Would make more sense with the keyboard attached too.

Did anyone ever use those extra tips? I never had to. This is one omission I don't mind personally.

Before I shell out the $99 for the cover, is there a cheap third party alternative that's just as thin and protective?

Does anyone know a good site for iPad-formatted wallpapers? I rarely change my screens because it's so hard to find wallpapers that fit nicely on both portrait and landscape.

I have a Pixel 2 and I just bought an iPad Pro 11" version. Can I sync my Google calendar app so that when I add an event on either device it automatically updates to the other?

I played around with them for a bit and wasn't able to sync events on both devices.

You should be able to add your Google Account in Settings > Accounts and Passwords; there is an option for syncing calendar.

Yeah, I saw this quote from Steve jobs earlier :

What happened at Apple, to be honest, over the years was the goal used to be to make the best computers in the world. And that was goal one. Goal two, we got from Hewlett-Packard actually which was "we have to make a profit". Because if we don't make a profit we can't do goal one. So, yeah, I mean we enjoyed making a profit, but the purpose of making a profit was so we can make the best computers in the world. Along the way somewhere those two got reversed. The goal is to make a lot of money and well, if we have to make some good computers well ok we'll do that... 'cause we can make a lot of money doing that. And, it's very subtle. It's very subtle at first, but it turns out it's everything. That one little subtle flip... takes 5 years to see it, but that one little subtle flip in 5 years means everything.

Lastly, we're really big on making computers our friends can afford, and not all our friends are Larry Ellison. So, we've got to make computers that are really affordable and I think that's another place that Apple got really off-track and we are just driving that really hard.

Apple has really lost their edge and are proceeding in a dangerous fashion. They need an innovator in the lead again.

Damn, I think this is the sexiest electronic I've ever purchased. I think it's second to the Surface Pro 3/4 last time I was this enamoured with the build and aesthetic of a tablet. Downloading my usual apps and comics. Feels so fucking cozy to curl up on the couch with this thing. It astounds me that it's a drawing device that is 4 times lighter than my mobile studio.

My one gripe so far is the folio. It sticks on well and all, but the paper thin edges are really cheap feeling. I wish it had a thicker lip. For now I'll stick with it but will keep an eye out for good quality replacement some months down the line.

The new iPad is pretty cool I have to admit. Kinda sucks it's $250+$30 more than my 10.5" with pencil, which I'm sure is driving some people away. I would've probably got it if I hadn't updated last year just to not have an outdated device at the time of buying. (Plan is to keep my current 3-4 more years haha)

I think the best new feature on it for me is charging the pencil on the side, as it's a hassle taking the cap off and having the thing stick out, but I don't use the pencil often so it's no biggy.

I'm not super impressed with the keyboard, I might swap it for the normal folio and just stash a Magic Keyboard in my backpack for when I'm on campus

How are people's displays? Anyone have issues with dark corners? One of my corners is a good bit darker than the rest so I'm probably going to exchange it.

GoodNotes 4 was updated for the new pencil today, if some of you are new to the iPad Pro and Pencil, definitely recommend this app for all your notes. Best feature being that it OCR's what you write so you can search your notes like any normal typed text, real life saver.

I was just gonna ask about a recommended notes app, other than Apple's own. Thanks!

Having used both extensively, I highly recommend Notability over GoodNotes. Also OCRs your handwriting for searching, and I've found the infinitely scrolling pages way more helpful than the notebook-like restrictions of GoodNotes. Handles imported PDFs far better as well.

Give Noteshelf 2 a look too. Also does handwriting recognition and it really is a virtual shelf for your note books, organisation-wise. I've been super happy with it for uni note taking. Their updated writing engine for the pencil feels surreal on the ProMotion display. (Granted I haven't used any other of the several note apps)

What are the paper options, screenshots don't show but does it have lined paper? Graph paper?
