Thoughts on ResetEra's reputation getting negative receptions in the gaming community

Gaming community=/= Monolith lol.
Resetera has a rep, but so do certain subreddits, neogaf, hardforum, anadtech..... Not everyone is going to like you, its part of life.

While I won't pretend ResetERA is better than it is and bastion for all. (It's not.)
It's likely that many of those responses are from more outwardly toxic communities including ones that don't moderate soft/hard racist or intolerant messages. It's better to ignore them. Actually, seeing people publicly get riled up about it may mean that
ResetERA is doing something worth notice to upset people that know what they glorify on their own forums is wrong.

If someone wants to come here and disagree about racism and representation in gaming, they're free to catch all the shit they deserve.
Mayor Mike Haggar says "Punch more shitty white dudes in the face" and I think dude's got some good advice.
Personally I enjoy video games and try and not read too deep into things.

I feel like the this thread and poll is exactly why ERA is getting hate. I voted "Other" because you didn't give me any proper choice, and that is what this discussion forum does a lot of the time. ERA shouldn't be an allegiance. It's a discussion forum for video games, or maybe that's just me being naive.
I think posts like these are more likely to be the actual reason.
Just because you have a negative impression of Era doesn't make you an alt-right fascist. There are people who can have that perception because of toxicity or hostility to dissenting opinion after trying to take part in discussion.
There's also likely a strong tie in most non-participants' minds between some of the worst parts of Neogaf and our new forum. Completely writing off people that have differing opinions or have had issues is only going to provide more space for isolation of our community and further negativity.
The quality of discussion, in my opinion, has experienced a very noticeable decline since the early months of the site.

I like the community here for the most part, but the moderation tends to be quite heavy with disagreements on social issues. Discussion is healthy, regardless if one side is completely out to lunch.
What a crock of nonsense. Era is known as the site that complains about everything? Have you ever been on Reddit, IGN, youtube?
I think it's funny how I see this right after I leave the "but think of the poor incels" thread. These guys whine, but it's because they can't tolerate any difference of opinion, even from their own selves. Semirelatedly, this morning I've been getting high off the fumes of QAnon folks having a crisis of cognitive dissonance
Pretty much this. The fact that Gaf only survived by becoming an Era hate machine says it all about the other gaming communities at large. The fact that these right leaning dopes keep sending idiots to burn accounts here tells me that Era really wracks their little brains, which greatly pleases me.
Don't give AF about them. If you enjoy Era, that's all that matters. I have my gripes with this place, but I like the tight community.

I love this site but it's got a problem with users treating it as the highest honor to be here and it sends an incredibly smug elitist attitude to the rest of rest of the larger community.

Perhaps only tangentially related, but thate mbaraessing Grinch leak thread certainly wasnt a good look for this community.
Some discussion isn't worth having.
If there's a topic about minority representation in Smash Bros, the site shouldn't have to deal with people posting "We are black people upset? You've got Mr. Game & Watch lol"
Honestly, this place has earnt its reputation. For every reasoned discussion, there are plenty threads that are batshit insane, imo.
However, as a member here, you take the good with the bad. The people who you feel you cant get along with, you ignore. The threads that you feel have a flawed premise, you stay out and you treat everyone with respect even if you dont agree with them.
If we can roll our eyes when people put up reddit, twitter or 4chan links, they can roll their eyes when this place is mentioned. Fair game.

Yeah Reddit is by far the worst place to complaining gamers.
I go to many games subreddits and its all complaints and whining. Granted there are more people there but still.

Please do not create threads about cross-forum drama. We are not interested in hosting conversations about what other sites or forums think about ours (and vice versa).
