There couldn't be a less appealing feature....I'd rather get tased than listen to idiotic insults and trash talk from a bunch of kids and a bunch of adults who should know better, but usually don't. When I briefly dabbled in online multiplayer, I always muted everyone, no exceptions. Absolutely nothing of worth is gained by leaving it on.

I disagree. Hearing people getting irrationally angry because you did better than them at a video game is hilarious

It gives me life. I was playing Blackout solo last night and just let the salt power me to a win. It's one of my favorite features.

I absolutely hate open mic, even with friends. Not gonna play with someone who's coughs and sniffs I'm required to listen, use push to talk or you're muted. That said, in Division it was a blast. People plotting to attack you without knowing you can hear them. Also some people talking in a language I didn't know, gave nice NYC flavor. Though I kept myself muted in-game and used Mumble for communications with friends.

I could see it being funny maybe once or twice, but game after game of it surely grates on the nerves a little bit? I just find it kind of sad and embarrassing really, maybe that's why I don't get anything from it.

Doesn't grate on me, I'm generally having fun whether I win or lose. Game after game is an exaggeration though, it's really not that common. It happens, but not all the time.

I love this feature. Unfortunately, I'm usually in a PSN party so I dont normally hear the rage unless I'm playing solo. I do remember a week or so ago, I was playing BO4 and I kept managing to kill the same guy and his rage level kept rising every time I got em. At one point I just heard "FUCKIN BICEPS!"

I love it. Close to launch I was using the pump action shotgun which I had fully upgraded. Was so great hearing people rage about it.

Then you are not a person who rubs forearms, as strange as it sounds. There are people who do it and it does not automatically mean "awkward lol".

I know I'm not lol. I literally said as much. Why does "I'm not a person who rubs forearms" (even though there was no forearm rubbing happening in that gif) sound weird?

And I didn't say that anyone who rubs another persons arm is "awkward lol", I said that specific gif looked awkward as hell and nothing about it looked natural.

I've always thought a BR game that had proximity chat, and forced everyone out of parties would result in some of the best moments possible.

Open Mic on kill?

That's nothing.

Bring me back Halo 2 and 3's feature of being able to Proximity Voice Chat with the other team. Or rather, overhear them.

I mean shit I think more games should have cross-team Proximity Chat. Especially games like R6S - Actually I'm pretty sure Raven Shield (or at least the Xbox downport) had this, to encourage Hand Signals and the like with talking too much giving away your position.

PUBG on PC - At least it was this way during Early Access.

I'm pretty sure DayZ has aswell. Fits there too, like in Division I earlier mentioned. But not a fan in straight up PVP shooters.

Hearing some rage for a split second because you outplayed them is never not amusing. It's like having friends over at a LAN. It only sucks when I hear racist/homophobic expletives repeatedly, in which case I mute em.

Well, upper arm or whatever it is called in English, my bad. I mean it sounds weird writing "a person rubbing an arm", not that you are not such a person. I just wanted to say that it is nothing weird rubbing arms.

Open Mic is the worst feature in gaming. I always turn that crap off. I have no need to be insulted.

It really is the worst. I hate trash talk, I don't do it and when I get it I go ballistic, ruins the entire experience for me. Rage quit, block/ban people ballistic. You may all find it funny, I don't.

It's the best. In the Blackout beta I took out a distracted guy and was treated to an angry, hearty "FUCK" followed by the sound of a controller hitting a hard surface

People wonder why most kids are awful online, most probably because they get abused like that one, and it sets them on a path of destruction.

I mean I get it, its funny, and its an 18 rated game, just saying.

Abused? Incredible. All he did was beat him and say "welcome to the real world".

Can we please stop diluting the word abused. It's absolutely gross. He beat him on a game and little teased him.

If that sets you on a path of destruction to be racially abusive and horrible you were likely a nasty piece of work anyway.

Yeah I really enjoy this.

I was playing battle royale the other day and I started shooting at this kid who was jumping through a window.

He immediately screamed

"Nooo, why meee..."

I didn't kill him at first, he managed to get into the building and took cover. So I had to open the door and finish him off. He squealed 'whyyyy' as I jumped through the doorway and shot him.

I found it all very funny.

One way chat or does the killer also get to talk?? Hearing the rage and salt of the dead guy for a couple of seconds seems incredible but giving the killer trash talk capabilities would ruin it for me.

I had another moment in Blackout where I grappled through a window and got the drop on a guy. I went from on the ground outside, to point blank next to him with a shotgun in hand.

As I pulled the trigger, I heard him say 'Oh shit!'

Very satisfying.

I feed off the toxicity of the other players to the point where I hate playing against AI in campaign modes because they don't give any reaction. I need to know someone else's day was made worse and that if I'm getting dominated, someone else is reveling in knowing they did that to me.

How does a thread like this turn into era trying to make jwong look like a creep or a pedophile, and how does it turn into a thread where people think that makes him look like a creep or a pedophile. Wtf

Anyways, I love it. Wish more games had it, I feed off it lmao.

Why can't we ever have threads go normal here anymore?

This does sound like a neat feature but I've been muting people in online games for years, it's usually the first thing I do. I liked the vicinity stuff in Halo 2/3 also, how you could hear opposing team's voice before everyone moved to closed parties. I doubt I'll ever enjoy a feature like this, too many 'children/idiots/people getting yelled at by their mom' with mics out there.

There was no abuse happening in that at all regardless.

websters:

: language that condemns or vilifies usually unjustly, intemperately, and angrily verbal abuse a term of abuse

Nothing about this is appealing to me. Why do people enjoy trash talk? What is satisfiying about insulting a stranger or having them insult you? What is fun about being shitty?

That so many people enjoy this is depressing.

So you're arguing against the dictionary definition of words? Good luck with that.

"welcome to the real world" In this sense means "learn to deal with this" as in the actions he is doing in game as it's only going to get more common. He's having a laugh about it cause the kid is crying that he is cheating or whatever but he isn't and the sooner the kid realizes he has to work around stuff like that the faster the kid will improve and have fun.

So no you are wrong as fuck

Always interesting to see threads like this, and then so many people confused in other threads why everyone is in party chat.

I'm not arguing with the definition; I'm saying it doesn't fit the scenario you're trying to make it fit.

I could call you racist and show you the dictionary definition - that doesn't mean you're racist.

Wait.. You're condemning and unjustly vilifying him? So by your own definition you're being abusive. This gets even worse.
