They bought into the "blue wave" idea that the media was obsessing over and believed that the best possible scenario was the more likely scenario.

Yup. People here were not grounded in expectations, notably in the Senate.

NONE of the models are leaning Republican in the House right now. None of them. But people are acting like Dems are at 10% or something. But there is debate whether it is low 20s or around 30.

Gaining control of a House that they haven't controlled in 8 years would, and a bunch of Governor races, is still a good outcome.

Yep. And consider gerrymandering as well and a lot is tilted against urban voters. This is only gonna get more pronounced as that divide gets wider.

Which is why the Democrats need locally appealing senate candidates in red / swing states.

Joe Manchin speaks to West Virginia.

Even in (probable) defeat, Beto O'Rourke is the best candidate for Texas right now.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that the answer is to Sanderise or Clintonise everything.

Minimum wage increases in AR and MO passing handily. Almost as if the current minimum wage isn't a living wage who fucking knew? (everyone except the criminals and sociopaths in charge of course)

These were the conditions prior to the Civil War. The rural (southern) states held a disproportionate amount of influence in the Senate. It was only after the (liberal) Republicans flipped the script and won in 1860 did they consider the whole system unfair and seceded immediately afterwards.

We headed for a repeat?

The rural states lost last time, so repeating that would be pretty cathartic right about now.

This is some nervewracking bullshit. Tonight should have been a celebratory fuck you to Trump, this ain't it.
Said it earlier but always expect the worst so you can be pleasantly surprised when we aren't.

America is a shit country as far as the first world is concerned and if there was ever a time you could have faith in it, now is not that time. We're still riding the downwards spiral.

It was a little silly to think this would be easy or quick.

People need to dig their fucking heels in and get ready for a generational fight.

If we give up this easily then the other side is going to win in the end.

additionally, winning the House IS the blue wave scenario, which is likely happening.

So you got what you needed, just not whom you wanted as a package.

Btw, if Beto isn't elected in Texas, he's free to run in 2020 for the office. Just saying.
