I have huge hands and don't really have a problem using them, my issue is how fucking garbage the build quality is. We have a 5+ page thread here of people who have issues with their joycons drifting or just not responding at all. I have at least 2 that do this.

I still remember the first time my friend handed me his Switch and before anything else, I commented on just how shit & cheap the joy-con felt.

Ergonomics aside, everything down to analog sticks, button feel, etc. are just terrible. I guess part of it is because it's technically a hybrid system, but yeah, they're terrible.

If you really hate all of the official controller options, there's always the Magic NS which lets you use PS3, PS4, and Xbox controllers on the system. Not that I'm recommending that anybody ever do that, but it's an option.

I thought that was a problem of the first batches?

They are designed for toddler hands. I have to use the pro controller whenever I play at my friends house. Wish we could get any kind options for bigher joycons

I also bought a Switch on a deal a while back, then promptly had to purchase a pro controller 'cause what came in the box was not going to work for me.

Disconnected, they're pretty great, but in the grip, I'm not a huge fan (Sticks are just too small). On the device, they're fine. I could not imagine enjoying smash with them though, so I picked up a pro controller, and I do really like the feel of that (Not as much as I like the Xbox Elite controller, but probably better than either the base PS4 or Xbox One controllers)

The concept of the console wouldn't work well if they were bigger. It's already almost too big for a handheld.

I love then, but I'm a tiny baby man with tiny baby hands.

I love the joycons even if they're small and i have gigantic hands. What i like about them the most is holding them seperate and gaming that way, so relaxing !!!

Otherwise, there's always the pro controller which is amazing minus the d-pad.

Joycons are by far and away the best controller experience I've had in my entire life.
Baby hands Trump is that you?

IN all seriousness I dont even have big hands and these things are an abomination. The joysticks alone are so fucking small that I cant imagine trying to play any game where precise movement is an absolute necessity.

I hate them. Bought one of the 8-bitdo SNES style controls to use instead for home, and travel. If you are desperate to make them work, then split them. But otherwise some of the worst face buttons I've dealt with a console control.

Yeah, they're awful. Can't stand those garbage analog sticks.

Went Pro controller and never looked.

wow i didn't think the joycons were actually this controversial lol. Is it just a case of them being great with tiny hands and not with any other kind of hands?

From my POV for my hands I can't play anything except Mario Party. I have shovel hands. From my kids POV he doesn't know how to hold it, what button to press in what situation, what controller is currently connected etc.

Possible Improvements:
Offer an option of coloured buttons that can show colour prompts in game as on the dash.

In dash if I pick up a controller and turn it on I want to use it. If I hold it horizontally I want to use it that way. Don't refuse because I have picked up the wrong side or have the buttons the wrong way round

The L+R thing is pish. Do something else.

I have huge hands and I love the JoyCons. Even in the Grip. Only reason I own a Pro Controller are the connection issues. But I played almost all of Botw with the Grip.

OH, I will say that they do lock in very well. I was expecting for them to be a bit flimsy, cause I HAVE seen those complaints, but they're pretty good in that regard.

Couldn't agree more. Pro Controller is a must.

I'd probably play my Switch undocked if the Joycons didn't suck so much ass.

Never had the need for a Pro Controller. Both in the grip and split they are very comfy.

Joygrip sucks. Try joycon in each hand.

If not, Pro Controller is amazing.

If else, get a 8bitdo or Mayflash adapter for 20 bucks and will let you use any other modern controller on it.

That was the first thing I did after playing through the Kirby demo with the grips. I wasn't a huge fan of the Wii remote because of the form factor, but I at least got used to them, and was hoping split joy cons would feel familiar. Sadly, they were just way to small. It felt like my entire hand was encasing each joycon, and it was just uncomfortable to hold.

I also thought they were small as fuck when I got a Switch. 5 minutes of usage and I was already in love with them. I have medium-to-big kind of hands. Playing with a joycon on each hand with my arms way out from each other on the couch is truly a joy

The bundled joycon adapter/grip/thing sucks. And they have the balls to make the charging version a separate purchase.

The joycons themselves are okay considering the portability limitations they were designed for. But they are small, feel cheap, and the sticks make a nightmarish crunching noise when you use their button.

I only ever use the pro controller when I'm docked, as it makes the whole experience much better. Now, if only that thing had analog triggers.

I don't know how people use the thing without a pro controller. The joy con grip sucks and is pretty much unusable to me.
Well yeah, that thing is terrible. Why would you use it, though? It's like you've got complete freedom to play with unconnected controller halves so you can put your arms in a more natural position and people want to force it back into the awkward bullshit where both hands have to be 5 inches apart from each other at all times? Makes no sense to me.

I've got some rsi and the unconnected joy con are such an improvement over the assault on my wrists that is the dual shock.

I'm not a fan of the size, but my biggest issue with them is the button layout. There's a reason that the other system controllers and the pro controller don't stack the buttons and sticks directly above / below each other. I totally understand that there's not much you can change about that unless you made a wider joycon variant.

Pro controller is better but it's vastly overrated on these forums. It's leagues behind the Xbone and PS4s controllers. It's still servicable enough though.

No way. I use all three and the Pro Controller is easily my favorite. Shitty d-pad, sure. No analog triggers, sure. But the feeling of comfort is the best.

That said, I've never used an Xbox Elite controller. Apparently those are really good.

I never had connection issues withy any of Joy Cons. The biggest issue I have is that my right Joy Con stick get stuck and I have to send it for repairs twice. Although, that was only one Joy Con out of three I own.

The control ootions are the Switch's Achilles heel. The joycons are only good in certain situations and they lack a d-pad, and the pro controller has a defective d-pad.

I mean they're controllers that attach to a 6 inch tablet, not sure what you were expecting.

I don't mind them split or in the shell, but holy hell do I hate them as sideways individual controllers. They're hardly passable at that point.

I have literally never owned a worse input device. It really sucked when some Shrines in BotW nigh required them for twisting shenanigans.

Luckily the Pro Controller is pretty great. Put the little sticks where they belong: the trash can.

I honestly can't understand this sentiment. They are simply OK for most games but for fps games they are the worst I have ever used.

I personally think the joy con in the grip is the worst Nintendo controlller. Fortuntaly the pro controller is their best. It is quite expensive, but well worth it.
