just some slight sound issues(which considering every model of genesis sounded differently isn't too surprising) that most wont pick up.

You might not be too sensitive to it, but I wouldn't call it "slight sound issues". Some of the sound issues on the Sega Genesis Collection are so bad that even people that never played these games will be able to tell that there is something wrong.

I think this is very clearly wrong. Not that the screaming is super realistic in the original game, but the girl in the collection sounds like a horse 0_0

Ended up getting Grim Fandango and Transistor despite having played them though several times and owning them both on PS4. Grim Fandango is an all time favorite (surprisingly) and Transistor was also one of my favorites on PS4.

I don't get that amount of lag on the PC version. Like, what? I got all of The cheevos too.

Am I crazy or does SMB3 have all kinds of flickering issues that aren't present in the actual game?

This flickering was in the original game and in the original hardware.

But a lot of emulators include an option to eliminate the flickering activate as default, by removing the sprite limit.

The first thing that I do with every NES emulator is to deactivate this option.

I'm completely against initiatives trying to change video game history, or altering the look of these games as they existed in its year of release.

And the first 'Super Mario Bros' will blown your head even more :)

Even with a couple of mushrooms in the screen, you can notice this distinctive blink effect.

Please share your impressions on the Switch port of Grim Fandango later! I'm curious about the game, I played very little of the original on PC. I remember the Brazilian Portuguese dubbing was reeeeeeally good. Is it included in the Switch release?

Also, I think you just killed zakatana (see post above yours) ^_^

See that doesn't bug me, then again half the time I multitask so I'm listening to other stuff. or when there is sound I'll be playing with my brother in law, and we'll be shouting at each other for screwing up XD. still better than stuff like atgames, and great to have on the go. It's not M2 Sega Ages level but im craving the buffet even with it's wars

Also, pc input lag tends to stem from cpu balancing issues, that tend not to be present on consoles due to a dedicated OS, and singly tasking on the system.

So I picked up a Hori D-Pad JoyCon

Thoughts:

Build quality is good. Housing feels like the same plastic and finish as real JoyCon. Slightly looser connection to Switch rail. Weighs a tad less.

D-pad feels fine. Not my favorite but not bad. Far better than the cross buttons. Tested with several SHMUPS, KOF 2000, SMB3. Didn't notice dropped inputs but I'm not sensitive to that. Had no problem with KOF moves.

Analog stick feels identical to the real one. Shoulder buttons have slightly more throw and feel a little firmer.

So the big issue is that it's simply not a replacement for the real left JoyCon. If you don't care about rumble or gyro and only play handheld I suppose it could be, but most of us will end up switching based on the games we are playing.

Because of its limited use and functions the real question ends up being "is it worth carrying around?" The joycon slips easily into the zipper pocket of my official Switch case so it's not a big deal for me, but having to change joycons based on what I want to play is still less than ideal.

On the other hand, this seems essential for people who want to play fighting games or certain platformers in handheld mode.

Still, if I'm playing on TV or tabletop I'm going to be reaching for several other controller options with d-pads before this, or my arcade stick.

I wish Nintendo would just come out with their own with rumble and gyro, but this is the best we have.

Probably the worst thing I can say about it is that it's hideous and clashes with all the other JoyCons. Why Hori decided the Western version should sport translucent shells with graphic patterns instead of just bringing the solid blue color over is beyond me.

NintendoWire-Hor-JoyCon-Zelda-Mario-Review-1024x683.jpg

I chose the Mario one and it's still terrible but at least it doesn't look like someone stuck some decals on it like the Zelda one does.

Maybe I should habe waited for this Pikachu version?
71uygwlanml-_ac_.jpg

For comparison, here is the Asian solid blue version. It mixes well with the other colors and doesn't look nearly as bad.

https:///wp-content/uploads/2018/07/hori-dpad-joycon-photo-13.jpg

Closing:

It works as advertised and it's a good product for the price. Unfortunately, it's not a final solution but it is very nice to have as an option.
They're in the NES version too.
It just seems really obvious in a way I never noticed before.

I can't believe you still can't re-assign buttons.

Apparently just a couple arcade games and it doesn't happen often. Still annoying though. Most reviews seem to be grading the interface and bonus content and not the actual games.

I also played it and wrote a review on it (which I can DM to anyone interested since I can't share it here unless an OT/review thread is made) but I CAN answer super burning questions you had about SNK 40th. Anything you guys want as I played 15+ hours the past few weeks and really enjoyed it.

That being said, I find it odd that reviews didn't mention the glitches with rewind not working sometimes, since that's a thing that frustrated me a lot in the affected games. I assume because we got an email saying it would be patched this week (good news) but I reviewed based on what I had, so yeah. Ask me anything about the game

Also, pc input lag tends to stem from cpu balancing issues, that tend not to be present on consoles due to a dedicated OS, and singly tasking on the system.

Then why I only have input lag with this collection, and with 'Mega Man Legacy Collection', whose input lag, by the way, it's also present in the Switch and in the rest of console releases?

Indeed, one of the most complicated things of creating an emulator is how to mitigate the input lag.

And in Switch, we have other notable examples of emulated games with input lag. Not as dramatic or as unplayable as in this this Mega Drive collection, but all the Psikyo ports have a noticeable input lag.

All of that said, if you are interested in the 'Shining Force' titles, why not?

Even with the bad emulation, you will have an absolute blast playing these two classics.

And in a turn-based game, it doesn't matter something as the input lag.

If you are excited for this release, ignore what the other users are saying. And simply, enjoy these classics :)

Sounds like this will receive a number of patches, which is good. Capcom is horrible about giving DE the resources to update their compilations, so it's cool NIS is allowing them to fix issues and add in extra games.

Yeah I just bought Transistor and that all his fault.

I must be dumb but from the 2-3 gameplay videos I watched online, I didn't understand how the game even plays, and I just bought it based on the hype from this forum...

The game is more style over substance. The soundtrack is really good but the gameplay is very boring. Go on youtube and listen to the OST.
There you have it.

Edit: Too late.

It's downloading as we speak yeah. I just need something to play on the couch while unplugging half of my brain, so I guess the style over substance thing isn't a problem in that regard. As long as it doesn't suck like Owlboy did, if we speak about style over substance.

Apparently Road Redemption is out today. I've still got Road Rash 3D0 hooked up to a CRT, but would love to pick this up if it's decent.

PC Reviews seem to be a bit of a mixed bag but the trailer looks promising.

Damn that's not slight at all. Such a shame Sega settles for this when they have M2.

Yeah, one's confirmed for this week and another for next month when the bonus stuff is added. I was hoping NISA would be better at letting DE fix any major bugs that came about, and I'm glad they are. Good thing too since the rewind/Save state glitching in the current version makes playing Ikari NES impossible unless you want to use that super duper long Level Skip code.

It also fixed the audio lag from MMLC, BTW. It just keeps running in the background when you home menu or sleep mode it, so it never desyncs.

Just bought Shapeshifting Detective and waiting patiently on it to fully download. I can't wait! Heard some great things about the game already in some reviews and looking into some detective work on that. This and Obra Dinn on Mac are gonna get me in a real detective mood this next few days.

Edit: Here's the GameRevolution review if anyone is interested.

I picked up the Zelda one myself as I only really use it as a portable, and so a D-pad for movement in 2D games is of far more use than mirrored buttons for a second controller. I agree that the translucent design makes no sense- it just looks jarring, I'd have preferred a solid black or grey, as now it just looks 'off-grey'. Still, it's functional and does what it says on the tin considering it's a fraction of the price of a regular joycon that has motion/gyro etc.

I sure hope it did. Skyrim was low key one of the best port job made on Switch, although it is from a relatively old game. Comparing it to the last gen versions, and the remastered on ps4/xbox1, the Switch version sits exactly halfway in terms of console generation. And for all the shit this game has received from fans, I still find it immensely enjoyable and playing it on the go is glorious.
I would take a Fallout New Vegas port any day of the week, at any hour of the night.

Not sure where to put this, but Choice Provisions posted changes in the upcoming PS4 version of Runner3. I assume they will come to the other versions. Also of note the game will be $20, compared to Switch's $30 (!!!), and launch at 50% off...

When Runner3 first launched, some people mentioned they missed the difficulty options from Runner2. This made a lot of sense to us, which is why we've worked to make sure they're included from here on out. And you can get real granular with them, including toggling enemy density, adding more checkpoints to levels, and getting assistance with perhaps the most treacherous villain in all of Runner history: The Stairs.

Players have also requested the ability to "self-bonk" in the game, and who are we to say no? If you're going for a perfect run in a level and miss a gold bar or a gem, briefly press L3 and R3 and voila. A bonking of your own creation.

These items only make up some of the improvements we've made to Runner3, however. Here's a (still incomplete!) list of what players can expect:

  • All character moves are available from the start of the game – You can double-jump to your heart's content!
  • Made the jump and avoid enemies/obstacles more forgiving – We love tinkering with hitboxes over here. We're cuckoo bananas for it.
  • Added more on-screen communication regarding the Impossible Levels, the Retro Levels, and the overall difficulty of the game – Don't say we didn't warn you when you fire up one of the game's nine "Impossible Levels."
  • Added a "break" sound effect to kickwalls in addition to their musical tone – We received more requests for this than just about anything else. We were happy to oblige.

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2018/11/06/runner3-sprints-to-ps4-november-13/

Difficulty was never my complaint, but more checkpoints would be nice. I'm interested to see how these help the experience. Still, they can't fix the game's biggest issues. Runner3 is easily my greatest disappointment in years. If R3 was any good the price difference wouldn't annoy me:)

That would be great if it comes to switch. I really wanted to like this game but found it very frustrating.

I'm simultaneously pleased and bummed that Dark Souls is selling so well.

On another note, anyone found any reviews of the Switch version of Road Redemption yet? The PC version has been on my wishlist for ages now, and I think I'll finally jump on the Switch version if it performs okay, but I'm very cautious. Pretty sure it runs on unity, and we all know how hit and miss that can be.

Has Mark of the Ninja got any patches since release?

I know the devs said it will most likely never get fixed properly but my PC version just got a patch on steam which reminded me the game came out on Switch.

Any word on the World of Final Fantasy port? I've already got it on PS4 and Vita but am tempted to triple dip. Loved what I played of it on PS4 but the Vita version was...less than ideal from a technical perspective. Would love to have a capable version for on the go. Also, there's no physical release right, just digital?

Nintendo really needs to get a better handle on their regional pricing. Moonlighter is 75% more expensive than on Steam and over 50% more expensive than PSN in Switzerland. It's dumb as hell.

I bought Full Metal Furies instead because they actually bothered to guarantee price parity.

With so many good releases, I decided not to buy any game with a base price higher than the Steam/PS4/Xbox version (and I'm talking about the base price, not even the "best" sale price).
So Moonlighter is out for me, welcome Full Metal Furies too :)
