I dont understand the chegduff bit. Does it reference to something we saw earlier?

Nope. Just a dumb bit lol

He explains in a Q&A video that Chegduff is basically a really gross version of Garfield.

So, I rewatched the first episode and the rules state that

1. You have to peek for at least 2 seconds before you can retreat from your peek.
2. If you retreat from your peek, you have to wait 6 seconds until you can peek again
3. You can put anything in your box that fits.

So to win, or lose a box peeking match, you have to peek for four seconds to get counter peeked.

That means if you're about to get counter peeked and you retreat, you lose anyways since you can't peek again for 6 seconds. I'm wondering what possible way there is to win if you retreat from a counter peek? You'd have to force your opponent back into their box with some kind of flash bang. I wonder if we're gonna see some stuff like that.

There's no real way to know if you are going to get counter peaked ahead of time. You can retreat and if your opponent then tried to peak 3 seconds later then you could counter peak them after a further 3 seconds.

Box Peek is great, but the Box Peek Q&As are even better.

Box peek is a game about Hidden Information and Game Theory. Your opponent never knows whether you are peeking or not, until the match is won or lost. If your opponent retreats, you don't know they've retreated.

The basic loop is:

Strategy 1: Peek immediately, which is countered by
Strategy 2: Peek between 0.1-3.9 seconds, which is countered by
Strategy 3: Peek after 4 seconds... which is countered by Strategy 1

We haven't yet seen what happens with a Simultaneous Peek, but knowing Kyle I assume we will. He loves edge cases and rules lawyering.

Enjoyed the episode. Loved the sudden introductions of new characters and wow, that got kind of dark in the middle there xp. Really like how it adds to the world building, though.

I think the bit was more that Noolian was obviously obsessive about Chegduff, but as soon as Takia said she hated it, he calls his mother and asks her to burn all his Chegduff gear. So it's the absurdity and unexpected reaction that's supposed to be funny. Chegduff is just there as more world building flavor and could have been anything else.

Just watched Episode 3, loved it. This show is fascinating and Kyle should be very proud of all the work he's put into it.

So victor is the eventuality of Ash Ketchum. He's good, knows he's good, but never ever wins the global championships or gains fame. He keeps going on adventures for decades until he's middle aged but still refuses to admit the adventure is over even though he's lost his edge. He can never move on with his life because he was a prodigy once.
Yeah this is brilliant. Victor is probably my favorite character so far. Such an interesting idea to take that kind of character through its logical progression...Ash never gets older, but if he did he could eventually be Victor. I'm rooting for the guy to have one more shot at glory though. Maybe Jordy becomes the champion but is then beaten by Victor in a Pokemon Red/Blue scenario.

Glad the series is getting attention here. Love Kyle's stuff and Box Peek has been great.

Pro strat: peek immediately, tape opponent's box shut so that you can't get counterpeeked

Hmm... this is certainly charming. And the craftsmanship has already greatly improved since the first episode. It's probably better than anyone could reasonably expect.

However, it's only been three episodes, and Box Peek is already starting to feel repetitive. I think that the episodes could have used more runtime to add more lead-up and fallout to each episode's central game, as right now it all feels very perfunctory. On a related note, I wish that the side scenes were better connected to the main plot and didn't just feel like funny outtakes; Box Peek can't afford this many seemingly random digressions when the episodes are already less than 10 minutes long.

The shonen format itself seems based around repetition

I would argue that the show's little details and digressions are what actually make it fun. Nobody really cares that much about Jordy's quest to become a Box Peek master.

I think I have an idea of what's gonna happen going forward.
I think to enact the 7 of 7 Initiative, Denise is gonna pull some backdoor shady deals to get Jordy enough points to enter the world tournament. What better way is there to get Fairboat Island residents to start playing Box Peek than for one of their own to make it to Big Crush Island? Jordy's gonna end up getting there without earning it, learn he didn't get there from skill, and be determined to win the tournament to prove himself.

Oh man, I finally got around to watching the other two episodes and they are genius. The guys are killing it with their VA abilities. The world feels oddly dystopic haha.

How the hell do these videos have under one million views? Not even 100k?

Criminal. People need to be watching this.

Its fine art.

I loved this chapter's match. The dramatic music made me laugh so hard...

Just wondering if Jordy will lose a match at some point before the championship - since he'll obviously lose there to honor the Pokémon tradition -.

I think I have an idea of what's gonna happen going forward.

It seems like this is what is happening...

The episodes AND the Twitch Q&As are getting better and better. I'm rooting for Ross to be an undefeated Jordy's final challenger in Episode 10 where he almost almost very nearly wins the return match and restores his pride but realizes, finally, that dignity and self-worth come not from being good at box peek but in the loving embrace of his family.

"We have precautionary measures against that now."
"They're still mad!"

why do the most random lines of this show have the best delivery

Love how Kyle expands on the world with each episode. Box Mods are ridiculous, haha.
