This is one of my favorite "just relax and chill" movies to watch. It takes me right back to that era, when I was starting to get into computers at the time.

Hanging out on mplayer a couple years later in a group of friends that liked this movie waaaaaaay too much with our handles being blatant ripoffs of "Zer0cool" and others. We thought we were cool and used Sub7 once, then figured out it looked nothing at all like it did in the movie and went back to just playing games and just chatting with each other instead.

The videogame in Hackers is a beta version of (European) PlayStation launch title Wipeout. Jack should be fired from Pre Rec for not knowing that.

It should also be noted that Angelina Jolie went on to play Lara Croft in the film version of another early PlayStation game, Tomb Raider.

Culkin was great in this, charming and affable, he fit in really well. Also nice to see him looking healthy and happy looking as well. Some pictures in the past where he looked really thin and drawn were pretty grim.
As for Hackers, it's been YEARS since I saw it. All I remembered was Fisher Stevens riding his skateboard and the fact that it starred Angelina Jolie and Johnny Lee Miller. The rest is a blank. Seeing how achingly cool they thought they were being kind of makes me want to give it a watch again, just for the cringe.

Jack ive warmed up to a lot, sometimes insightful and has really developed his style and delivery in his time on the RLM pieces

Josh I can give or take.

My main takeaway from this is that I had no idea the Indian character from Short Circuit was a due in brownface.

Mind kind of blown.

Macaulay is pretty fucking funny. The whole thing about thinking Fisher Steven's was actually Indian until he watched Hackers was pretty good. That and asking why he was even there. Also Hackers is really watchable film, hilariously unrealistic but fun. That and any film with song is good in my book.

The entire soundtrack was amazing. Some songs are a bit dated, almost like 90's artifacts, but the rest is incredible. Kind of like The Matrix, really.

But I bought the soundtrack to Hackers 2!

IMG_3467.jpg
Still angry at those CDs featuring songs that were NOT in the movie and drove me nuts trying to find them somewhere. So many soundtracks did this in the 90's. "Inspired by" my ass.

People are speculating they shot a Christmas special with mculkay already. I think they might be right
If so they're keeping it a secret even from their patreon. Which if so it wouldn't be surprising, they only announced that Culkin would be in a botw after the Halloween ep ahead of time. Everything else they've announced a few days prior to the release.

That's be great if they did a Christmas re:view or a Christmas botw where they watched a bunch of shit.

Man Culkin isn't fucking around, I wonder if he's planning a return and all of his appearances here and in other nerd culture videos are part of a self promotion?

I agree with the people saying he should just move to Wisconsin and become a regular. He's fantastic in this episode.

Macauley is looking healthy. I was seriously worried with him looking extremely gaunt a few years ago amidst rumors of drug and alcohol abuse. I am happy for him. He needs to do more of this stuff.

Jack is great, Josh is great, Macauley is fantastic in this, great episode. Jack nailed it with his comment: "this is a bad movie that has aged horribly".

I'm 20 minutes in and the one joke I wish Jack would have done is, when Macauley was talking about the Pan Am building and how it became the MetLife building, he would have asked, "How do you know so much about New York?"

I will never not love Mccauley. Also Hackers is underrated as being one of the most awesome "so bad it's good" movies of all time. So I guess I'll add this to my watch later list.

I was hoping since they had Culkin, they'd do a re:view of Party Monster, but this was good too.

Macaulay might just be the best celebrity guest they've had on the show. I will still never not love Max Landis torturing Rich Evans about Double Down and Neil Breen, even though I hate Landis as a person, but man, Culkin just slots in perfectly.

Does Mike appear in this video? I refuse to watch anything with that hack fraud

Not this one. Just Jack and Culkin.

I love that movie. I attribute a lot of my early interest as a kid in computers from that movie even if it was unrealistic.

That was great!

And Hackers is some true blue guilty pleasure. Pure distilled 90s cheese.

I was giddy when I saw this thumbnail, I love Hackers for all of its attempts to visualize what is going on within computers when no one really knew anything about them.

While the movie as a whole is pretty bad, the ham-fisted lines and the attempts at humor were a score for me. They took a stab and missed, but at least they took a stab.

Yeah a great RLM episode, it was very cool seeing Caulkin in it he was in one of their previous episodes briefly too so I guess they had him around for a few things. One of my favorite movies growing up, this, Wargames and Sneakers really set the vibe for the whole young-computer-kid thing in my youth.

Thinking back it really was kind of pre-Matrix (these movies) and post-Matrix separation for many nerds.

I watched Hackers so many times growing up, it was a favorite amongst my siblings. I fear rewatching it as an adult.

I like that Culkin is just there. No need for some big introduction. Hope they also shot a best of the worst

It's not a beta (it's entirely CG), but it sure is Wipeout.

Yep. Sony UK hooked the movie up with it's soundtrack, and Psygnosis (a UK studio) was making Wipeout as a PlayStation launch title, also featuring music from Sony UK, so Sony UK introduced the two parties to each other, and Wipeout ended up being featured in Hackers.

It was all over videogame magazines back in the day, as this was one of the incredible new things that megacorp Sony was bringing to videogames. Videogames could have "real music" now. Videogames could have genuine Hollywood connections. Gamers didn't have to put up with trash like the Super Mario Bros movie (1993), they could have real Hollywood movies like Hackers (1995).

Fortunately Mortal Kombat (1995) came out a month before Hackers and successfully built the "videogames in movies" future that people were trying to build.

They shot it in and around my high school, with some of the students as extras. The things my 15 year old self wanted to do to Angelina......

*takes shower*

It's a cheesy movie, but fun as hell.

I was surprised that they didn't comment on how horrified Fisher Stevens looks right before he grabs the disk. This was clearly not a man who was comfortable on a skateboard.

Colin (bald Canadian) is still sitting at number one on my all-time RLM jokes list with his comment about a future CGI David Carradine. "His eyes are so lifeless. It's perfect!".

Boy, I've never seen it, but based on this, is Hackers the most 90's movie ever? I feel like half of this is high-res FMV game footage. And The Matrix at least ushered the transition to full-leather 00's aesthetics. Also, Jack and The Culk were great! He really did slot in perfectly.
