Hey, at least once Sunset Overdrive is over, we can focus all of our energies on playing it instead of begging for it.
Also, that would leave Master Chief Collection as the last most wanted exclusive not on PC as well. Rare Replay relies on Xbox 360 and original Xbox emulation, so that's a bit of a non-starter, but Master Chief Collection? That seems to be a matter of when and not if.

Very surprised this is coming to Steam. Maybe MS isn't publishing/distributing it?

It was submitted to South Korea's ratings agency and the ESRB by Microsoft. It'll presumably include all of the DLC by default, as belated PC ports generally do, and there are no microtransactions, so a Steam release makes sense, even from Microsoft's perspective.

Also, gets more people excited for the sequel when they announce it at E3 19

Technically, a Steam release would make sense for all of MS's games if they were interested in maximizing potential sales. However, if their priority is getting people to use the Windows Store, making Sunset Overdrive exclusive to it would make more sense.

I think a Steam release is in their best interest. People would have a more positive attitude about the Windows Store if they didn't have to use it.

This game was sweet on og xb1, will be a stunner on a good pc. Wonder if we will see an X enhancement finally.

I'd say the priority of publishers the size of Microsoft is to have users engage with titles that have avenues for residual revenue beyond the initial purchase. Releases like Sunset Overdrive PC are considered secondary as user engagement begins and ends at the point of purchase, so maximising unit sales means maximising revenue, regardless of perspective or outlook. Similarly, Acti still releases single-player titles on Steam despite now having a hugely popular and well-respected platform in the form of Battle.net.

I think you're correct about Sunset Overdrive being considered a secondary product. I don't necessarily agree with the reasoning, though. I think it has more to do with MS keeping their "killer apps" (Halo, Gears of War and Forza) exclusive to the Windows Store because those games might actually convince people to use the Windows Store. If it were solely about long-term monetization, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and GoW4 would already be on Steam because they don't have revenue streams beyond the initial purchase.

What is going to be the price? 20$? 30$?

I'm dipping if it is 20 bucks, game looks fun.

Probably $30. That's the price of the Deluxe Edition (game + DLC) on X1.

Edit:

Gears UE has a bunch of weapon/skin packs, and Gears 4 has both DLC and microtransactions.

GoW: UE and GoW4 have microtransactions.

OMG IT WILL BE ON STEAM!? I'll just wait for performance reviews, if it's decent, I'll buy it.

Now please add FH3 to steam.

Really? That's surprising. However, Killer Instinct also has microtransactions and that's available on Steam, so the presence of microtransactions doesn't seem to be the deciding factor on which games MS puts on Steam.

It's simple really externally developed it can show up on steam , usually after development is done. Hence KI was put on steam once all major content was done.

If developed by an internal studio it hasn't been put on steam. Forza Horizon uses ForzaTech so even though developed externally pre buyout MS has more invested.

State of Decay, if devs mentioned steam pre buyout MS would honor just don't expect it on steam until development is done.

That's the obvious current strategy, which of course is subject to change at anytime.

Didn't this engine get used for something else recently?

I'm completely blanking on what it was and yet I know I played it...

One of the many games underrated and unfairly hated on simply by being an XB1 exclusive. It'll be interesting to see opinions on this once it's out on PC.

This made my day! Thanks for posting this m8!

As someone who has never had problems with the windows store, what is causing all these issues that people speak so vehemently awful about it. I just want to play the game in a higher resolution so if it's on the Windows Store so be it.

Here's some reading for ya:

If it means an X patch I'm happy with it, also more people will be able to enjoy this game.

If they X patch it I'll jump for joy, if they make it cross buy/cross save on the microsoft store I will do a cartwheel....Basically I'll buy it everywhere I can.

It's really interesting to read the whole thread now haha. I didn't expect it on Steam either, but I held hope.

Although, wasn't Halo 3 in steam's database a few years ago?
it was in that huge "Steam helpdesk" leak few years ago with other stuff noone beleived will ever happen (like Final Fantasy games , Danganronpa or EDF) and Halo is pretty much one of few few that didnt happen. Iirc MS even talked about it that it was in works at some time

I'm guessing it'll be officially announced at the event MS has soon.

I'm hyped for it as it's always looked good but I don't have an Xbox One
