I'm just your regular sophisticated young adult Nintendo gamer and I picked up Splatoon 1 for the first time today, because why not. After a few games I've got the hang of this thing, and man, uh... the skill floor on this is pretty low, eh? I'm just playing some match, working my way across the map, and this team is just folding - then I notice there's an opponent literally called "mom" that I'm just steamrolling every single time and now I just feel like I'm ruining some nice family's bonding experience tonight by spawn-camping their base or whatever and wrecking them.

Uh. So is this normal for Splatoon? How do you hardcore gamers here get your kicks out of kicking the crap out of (squid) kids?

Splatoon turf war games have matchmaking based on your performance in previous games. When you first start out the game doesn't have data to warrant matching you with more skilled players

I see now, now I'm getting splatted by a whole team of Level 50s. RIP me.

Like, literally entirely Level 50s, with me, a Level 5. Lol.

Splatoon 1? What year is this? Most good players play ranked. Hope you have fun with the game tho, play charger, it's so satisfying getting quads.

Damn OP, I wish I've splatted as many moms as you. I've only splatted a couple dads before.

On the side note, I've ran into someone named "I'm sorry :(" and made me feel sorry for splatting the person.

The more and better you play, the better players you face. Eventually you'll find yourself questioning your existence as you get destroyed

You're bragging about playing an old game's easiest, unranked mode

Well, not entirely bragging, more observing that it's kind of weird to play an online game in a match mostly populated by kids and families. As if I'm in a ball pit somewhere with a primary school classroom, for some reason.

Anyway, it does seem now I'm being matched up with some experienced people, but yeah, it was a weird experience.
