Yeah, this was going to happen. But they're keeping their guarantee for 12 months, so it's all good.

Went to a wedding this past weekend three states away and my wife was in the bridal party. Had nine hours to kill and saw three movies in Dolby. Basically paid for 3 months just right there.

Still an absolute steal, easily the best service I've used. OG MoviePass was a great one too but we all know how that turned out...

I'm in California and $23.95 isn't a significant increase given how much I use it, but my concern is that without competition they'll continue to raise the price until it's not worth it. The only reason this exists in the first place is because Moviepass drove them to react, but with Moviepass in the shitter - AMC dictates the game and that doesn't give me much confidence.

I see this as the future main revenue model for cinema chains, much like live regional theatrical venues (touring houses) offer subscription services. They'll eventually be competing with other chains.

And, as with all subscription services, there's simply a balance. For most markets, the subscription price is two matinee tickets. Along with increased concessions and merchandise revenues from A-Pass guests, there's a hard limit to what most guests will spend. Not that they won't keep pushing the line.

It's a different way to look at revenue. We're going to a per guest model from the old per ticket model.

We just have to hope that other large chains (looking at you, Regal) follow suit and offer something of their own.

Soooooo, as a New Yorker, if I joined up as a new member today, I'd be locked into the old $19.99 pricing for a full year, provided I don't cancel?

Or will the new $24 pricing kick in come January?

Problem with this is that if your schedule is pretty lenient you can see movies for $5 on Tuesday nights and at some theaters like Century Cinema a weekend matinee costs like $7. So at $24 now you need to see 4-5 movies a month consistently to be worth it.

I subbed for the A-list over the summer and in the first couple months I watched like 6-7 films and got my money's worth. But I didn't get to the theater at all last month, and probably won't see more than 1-2 movies a month in the theater on average months, so I was barely breaking even at $20. At $24 I'm out.

If you're the kind of person that goes on weekend nights and sees a few movies a month, yeah it's worth it. That's really the only situation it is.

"To that end, we will fully honor our initial 12-month guarantee protecting you against any increases in pricing or reductions in benefits, and that same 12-month offer will extend to any of your family or friends who enroll in A‑List by January 8, 2019."

All I see is reserved seating. Did I miss anything?

From the second paragraph

Effectively immediately, we are lowering the minimum age for A‑Listers from 18 to 16, and also allowing households to use a common credit card as the payment method for separate, individual A‑List accounts.

By June of 2019, so that more of you can book the choice seats that you want online in advance, we will roll out reserved seating to all of our AMC branded theatres and to all of our AMC Dine In branded theatres across the U.S. (Reserved seating is not being introduced to AMC Classic branded theatres at this time).

Also by June, we will introduce for our guests in metropolitan New York, Boston, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco the opportunity for online Mobile Ordering of food and beverage at all AMC branded theatres. Order on our web site or smartphone app, and your food and drinks will be ready and waiting for you at the theatre.

I have no doubt they'll add more next year. I suspect Regal will add their own, Sinemia will ramp up (they just started allowing any movie theater chain to have their own subscription through them), and Cinemark could (or rather, should) introduce an actual movie subscription program on top of their current discount-only system.

Nice. Given New York's ticket pricing, $26 (with tax) is still a pretty great deal. But hey, $4 more a month is still $4 more a month. Thanks for the confirm!

Nice that you can use the same credit card to get two memberships.

Hopefully enough will do this that they realize a family/couple pass has value and offer it.

I thought you were referring to something good. None of those are exclusive to A List here in CA

Damn sucks to see the increase, but I guess it was to be expected with MP is basically dead.

Guess I need to make a choice before January. At $10 it was a no brainer, but $20 was already a bit steep especially now that the novelty of seeing all the movies has sort of worn off.

NJ is climbing, but it's still a great price - for now. A-List is better than Moviepass ever was.

Thanks for reminding me to cancel now that my 3 months are up. Not that the service was bad, it was great. But, I moved to a new area where only Regal is around.

Can't believe how few AMCs there actually are in the East Bay. Outside of the 3 in SF, I don't have another option until all the way down to Newark.

When that happens, I'll just unsubscribe and start renting movies at home.
