I will surely watch them since they are at a very decent hour here in Europe. This should be very interesting.

Both teams from Argentina playing in South America version of Champions League? If anything that sounds boring. They play a lot against each other. I would like to see competition between 2 countries.

It's like having Barca vs Real CL final. When I just want both to loose.

Can someone translate this hate into NFL terms? Would it be like the Steelers playing the Ravens in the SuperBowl?* I'll watch anything where the teams are good and there is a healthy bloodlust.

*I know

Not even those matches compare to Boca v River, no comparison at all, and at a Livertadores Final? No way...

As always I will me rooting for River to win and no matter who's the rival I will be always hoping for Boca to lose.

When and why did this rivalry even start and get this bad?

I can see why that would be unappealing from a personal perspective, but you can't deny a Madrid vs Barcelona CL final would be incredibly alluring.

You know that this is a big deal when the Conmebol decides to break the tradition of playing the finals in the middle of the week at Night just to allow Europeans to watch this game

I know SA football has some epic rivalries that make ours look positively tame but omg.

Guys, the games haven't even started yet and you have friends torching each others houses.

Hopefully the games willat least live up to the billing and we don't see people hurt.

That will be the biggest final ever. A Corinthians vs Palmeiras would be another one that could rival this one in terms of rivalry, expectation and tears.

Any comparison with Real vs Barça is nuts, El Classico has the best players and the most boring crowd a sports event can have. It is amusing how boring they can make watch 2 of the best teams in the world. I've been to one El Classico and it was such a disappointing experience.

Fenerbahce vs Galatasaray could have a similar atmosphere. I heard Celtic and Rangers are big rivals too but I am sure there is not a tenth of the excitement in there. Can't think of other big rivalries.

I will be watching it Saturday night for sure, probably supporting Boca because of Tevez.

Btw, what makes this final special is that it will be played in 2 matches, as it is typical in SA, but starting next year (or the other?) the final will be played in a single match in a neutral stadium. Conmebol copying the fckng Champions League, but only the shitty part of it. South America doesn't have the infrastructure (bus, rail, plane) for such thing, the real supporters won't have money for a trip that expensive (not enough to fill a stadium abroad I am sure) and we will have boring ass single match final. Imagine if this River and Boca had to be played on a single match in Quito? What a disgraceful joke.

Don't want to sound like a snob but I don't think any American sport has a rivalry similar to this.

I am half Argentinean and was raised in a Boca family so I will tune in.

When I lived in Argentina, fans of these teams would regularly beat the shit out of each other just for wearing the jersey.
Fuck both these teams.

Soccer fans have the most heated rivalries because they need something, anything, to do to quell the mind numbing tedium of watching a soccer match. I'd rather get stabbed or punched in the face than sit through three hours of that bullshit too.

I pity the poor McDonald's at the side of the Buenos Aires obelisk when the match ends.. It's going to get rough.

About the match; I really suspect that this was rigged somehow.
The Argentinian population are suffering from a big recession that can last at least 1 more year and the politicians have historically distracted them with football or other things (more recently with an abortion law that didn't passed the senate, judiciary progress on cases of corruption, etc.).

Football here is very tied with politics and mafias, so I would be not surprised if that was the plan all along.

To each their own my friend. I'd rather watch a week straight of AA baseball than a single top-tier soccer game. I'm not even a massive baseball fan.

Anyway, I just wanted to stir the pot a bit. You guys enjoy yourselves!

Haha nothing really. Just wanted to ruffle some feathers as I kill time between sets.

What sport do you enjoy the most? I'm guessing golf but please confirm

I don't know, I'm mean, is obvious that La Libertadores is rigged as fuck (and people are proud of it) but I don't know if the best solution to make people stop talking about the economical crisis is doing a match that Will practically kill the mood of the loser side for the upcoming years

Mainstream sports? Hockey primarily, baseball when in season and the Jays are doing good.

Mostly I just watch snowboarding and skateboarding videos though.

But in regards to your post, yes, I'd rather watch golf than soccer.

Nothing beats soccer rivalries though, I'll give you that. South American and Eastern European soccer fans are fucking insane.

edit: Really though, I was just being cheeky with that first post. I don't want to fully de-rail the thread.

Okay if you really want to break down Hockey vs Soccer we can do it. Not here though, for the sake of poor OP.

Also, most hockey fans these days cringe at the fighting. It won't be around for much longer.

hockey is an infinitely more entertaining and skilled sport, by a country mile. You simply cannot argue the latter.

edit: I am heading out for the evening, but very happy to continue this (hopefully playful) back and forth via DM or another thread. I'll leave you soccer fans to it!

3 hours and... I'm out
I'm confused here.

This will be like a walk in the park with the family compared to the average Old Firm game (Celtic vs Rangers) :P

Glad to see boca river gettibg some love on era. Biggest rivals, no visitors, boca knows how to make the stadium rumble.

Abyone remotely interested in soccer should at least watch what happens when boca comes out on the pitch. Its a spectacular show full of passion.

This final is huge. So much so that river should have been disqualified but money speaks and this is where the money is. In a boca vs river final.
