I would count tony hawk/gran turismo as sports titles and I wouldn't expect something like 1080 snowboarding to top that ridiculous list of first party N64 games.

I was thinking more along the lines of Madden and NBA Live but yeah Tony Hawk counts. See post above mine with PS2/XB and N64.

i didn't say that only these games are the ones that made ps1 a classic consoles, just saying in that thread many people were overlooking the fact that a lot of those games weren't really deserving of the classic title, or in some cases (rainbow six) were just bad games. if a console is going to remind people of the awesome times they had with it and the good games it had, makes sense to include more of the popular games. some of the games in the lineup are even missing from the top 74(!) best selling list:
You think these systems are made just to put the biggest sellers in them? I wonder, did Nintendo only put games that sold high? Number 74 is still at like 1 million so even games less than that still sold well, i doubt the games even matters for these systems anyways, they will sell well based on the name alone.

Fuck it may as well post the 6th-generation unit sales (not revenue) charts here too. These are both for the US only.

I had a Gamecube one too, let me see if I can find it.
Really nice for Splinter Cell and DOA3 on Xbox!
A lot to parse through on PS2 lol.

Surprised at seeing Goldeneye above Mario Kart, I knew it was popular but wow!

This was also probably the last time a mainline 3D Mario game sold better than a Mario Kart game. Series is gargantuan nowadays.

Dark Duel Stories being up on that list is absolutely nuts considering how late in the GBC lifespan that launched.

The drop off from halo to splinter cell is astounding, also why did sequels cell so poorly? Ghost recon 2 was better and more accessible than the first and sold worse, chaos theory isn't ranked besides being much better than the og, etc etc

That launch boost was massive for games like pgr and doa3

Happy at DKR and GoldenEye 007 slaying. Shame they likely won't ever see a re-release.

Seeing Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot comfortably perched at the top of the charts for their respective platforms also underlines how badly Sega/Sonic Team blew their chance at not having a 3D Sonic ready to go at that time (although the Saturn by then was already screwed by various other reasons). With that said, I am a bit surprised the Saturn version of Sonic: 3D Blast even made the top 10 to begin with.

Probably reaching here, but I also wouldn't be surprised Sonic missing the 5th generation 3D leap also had a knock-on effect on Sonic Adventure, considering how even that game ended up being outsold by two sports games.

Bigkrev nekomix Seven Force I saw Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories in the chart and was confused for a second (I only refer to games by their original titles) why it was in a US chart when it is a Japan exclusive game (Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters II: Dark duel Stories) then I remembered (owned the game as a kid also) they changed the original name of the game, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters III: Tri-Holy God Advent, to Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories.

Not surprising at all its up there since Gen 1 Yu-Gi-Oh is the most popular series and as someone who experienced the beginning of the series back then, I bought the shit out of every release. Plus, the series in the US started in September 2001 and the GBA is backward compatible. Also, there was a thread a few weeks ago showing a Yu-Gi-Oh! game as one of the top 10 GB titles in Japan. Keeping it related to the US, every NPD chart I've seen Gen 1 Yu-Gi-Oh! showed that it sold like hotcakes.

Damn, Star Fox 64 sold that well? It's such a shame the series has never been a success since that game.

Diddy King Racing making the list and a sequel nowhere to be seen. Sigh.

We were actually getting a sequel on the GameCube called 'Donkey Kong Racing' that included more Kongs and Taj. The game had a new concept though where instead of riding karts, airplanes, and hovercrafts, you actually rode animals in the DKC universe. On land you could ride Expresso and Rambi, Enguarde for water, and Zingers for air. What was cool too was you'd be able to swap between them mid-race. Perhaps your racing on land on Expresso and a body of water appears you'd be able to get off of it and onto Enguarde to continue on water.

Unfortunately, the game ceased to be after Microsoft acquired Rare. Rather than "lose" ALL of their progress on the game though, Rare began transitioning it into a different title altogether called Sabreman Stampede which was its own thing that had racing and all sorts of different things. It ultimately ended up being canned though.

Man those lists are so much more diverse and interesting than the current generation's top 10. Really goes to show you just how much massive publishers have taken control of the industry.

Thanks for sharing. That's an interesting list. I did not know Driver was that big.

I understand there not being a GT title on the PS Classic, due to all that licensing red tape to cut through, but man, Sony should've been prepared to suck all the dicks at Activision HQ to get a Crash game on that thing. Hell, even Crash Bash would've sufficed.

Legit laughed at Shadows of the Empire being on the N64 list. Game was straight ass even at the time.

Would have expected Rogue Squadron to be on there instead.

Man... Driver could have been huge. A monster franchise. But Infogrames fucked up, as always.
