Comparing this to the PS4 and Xbox One lists, I wish gamer's tastes went back to that era, tbh.
Nah, its justice when you see Madden top any systems' sales.
out of the 20 games on playstation classic, only 3 games are on that list. further proof of how terrible the game selection for ps classic is.
Whilst all the games on the PS1 and N64 lists are million sellers. Dreamcast only had one million seller and no Saturn game could even get to half a million.
Yup.I'm a little surprised football games take the top spots on the Sega consoles. It was huge on the Genesis and I guess these charts show that audience stuck with Sega, at least to some extent.
Well, the silver lining is that it's only cracked the Saturn top 10. Too bad it didn't even deserve that.
I would count tony hawk/gran turismo as sports titles and I wouldn't expect something like 1080 snowboarding to top that ridiculous list of first party N64 games. The lack of sports games in the top 10 for PS1/N64 is always jarring whenever I see one of these charts.
right, but some people were actually defending that lineup as a good representation of what people were playing on theie consoles back in the day, rather than what it actually is, which is whatever they could get.6 of the 10 are tied up in licensing issues, even if Sony originally published them on PS1.
This one confuses me. I saw way more people playing Gold version back in the day.
Right.I made this mistake at first but those list makes sense when you remember this is in the US only..right?
So basically, only games that sold really well should be on the PS Classic?right, but some people were actually defending that lineup as a good representation of what people were playing on theie consoles back in the day, rather than what it actually is, which is whatever they could get.
People played other games that aren't in the top 10 too, it's ridiculous to even imply that people only care about theses games.right, but some people were actually defending that lineup as a good representation of what people were playing on theie consoles back in the day, rather than what it actually is, which is whatever they could get.
Unit sales version (from an old NPD megathread on the other site):
One of the main differences in the PS1 list is Frogger, which was a gigantic seller thanks to being sold at $10 (at a time when no other games were selling for that low a price.) FF7 is somewhat lower here (#10, mistakenly listed twice), indicating that it held its value for a long time.
Either these old-ass consoles kept on selling way beyond their expiration date or NPD adjusted their figures I guess. From 2003:
N64 SUPER MARIO 64 5,943,556
N64 GOLDENEYE 007 5,019,092
N64 MARIO KART 64 4,796,623
N64 ZELDA: OCARINA TIME 3,543,388
N64 SUPER SMASH BROTHERS 2,546,810
N64 POKEMON STADIUM 2,501,915
N64 DIDDY KONG RACING 2,500,609
N64 DONKEY KONG 64 2,336,132
N64 POKEMON SNAP 1,916,105
N64 STAR FOX 64 W/RMBL PK 1,903,652
PSX GRAN TURISMO RACING 3,251,557
PSX CRASH BANDICOOT 2 3,100,190
PSX GRAN TURISMO 2 3,056,883
PSX CRASH BANDICOOT WARP 3,006,691

PSX TEKKEN 3 2,681,372
PSX TONY HAWKS PRO SKATR2 2,628,911
PSX DRIVER 2,613,706
So basically, only games that sold really well should be on the PS Classic?
i didn't say that only these games are the ones that made ps1 a classic consoles, just saying in that thread many people were overlooking the fact that a lot of those games weren't really deserving of the classic title, or in some cases (rainbow six) were just bad games. if a console is going to remind people of the awesome times they had with it and the good games it had, makes sense to include more of the popular games. some of the games in the lineup are even missing from the top 74(!) best selling list:People played other games tat aren't in the top 10 too, it's ridiculous to even imply that people only care about theses games.

I was still seeing new PS1 games in some places in 2006, albeit mostly in the bargain bins. And the NPD does indeed adjust their data from time to time.
Based on the fact that the charts in the OP are through last month, the stuff you posted can't be right. Was that for more than just the US?
The charts I posted are unit sales, not revenue. It's only US sales.
Yeah, 2 things to note. Crash has 3 titles in the top 10. Never realised it was that popular.
Also Goldeneye above Kart and Zelda is just insanity.
So Sony did what every company would do... release a PlayStation without Crash...And FF7; really puts into perspective how BIG Crash was I guess.
