This is EXACTLY what I came to post.
Borderlands 2 felt like playing an offline MMO and helped me realize that people will ignore so much garbage if they can simply play with a friend or two. When that's set aside and you look at the awful fetch quest system and poor randomized loot there's really not a lot to the game. Well other than lame memes I guess.
This thread is kind of funny to me though because I was half expecting BL3 to be a destiny clone or close to it. And it will be full of MTX too because of 2k. So don't expect a similar experience to BL2.
We got this on GDC 2017
Nothing new since then as far as I now.
I honestly don't believe Gearbox even has enough good talent left to do a decent Borderlands, so many of the original creators left for other studios between BL2 and Prequel.
Gaige was designed to be "girlfriend mode" as Gearbox put it, stupidly overpowered. I sure hope they learn some lessons from TPS on gameplay, writing, etc.Borderlands meta and build variety is nuts and it's weird that people are trying to downplay that
Then again no one played Pre-Sequel, the best game and 2 was just Gaige's Big Fuckhouse
I just think OP spelled Earth Defense Force 5 wrong..
That game will save us from everything.

There is nothing shallow about Destiny, stop living in 2014, a lot has changed.
Not every game can be Diablo with random loot, in games where players can battle other players there has to be balance consideration. Borderlands didn't have true PvP so there was no reason to Nerf guns that shot cannon balls that turned into little grenades or whatever out of the Barrel.
I also think Fallout 4 was horrible
It didn't do anything of the sort lol.
With borderlands 1 and 2 being the original bullet sponge game I'm quite surprised by your readiness my chipper friend.Destiny is ridiculously shallow. It's a loot game where none of the armor really matters and guns come down to outlaw, rampage, kill clip or immediately delete.
Classes all play pretty much the same with only slight differences in jumps/melee to separate them. Thousand cuts hunter is probably the most distinct style.
Power level is just a "you must be this tall to ride this ride" and basically does nothing to change the feel of the game. You do a little more or less damage within a certain range and that's it.
Destiny is pretty fucking shallow. I couldn't be more ready for Borderland 3.
Yeah. The thread premise is strange to me because I always considerered Borderlands 2 one of the most shallow games I've played.
Years ago before Destiny set the trend for shallow games with little content,
Very very low bar.
