Also, to add to all of what happened at the con itself, let's not forget that Blizzard deleted the trailer for this game on YouTube and reupload it in order to reset the dislike counter, as well as deleting comments.

This guy from Reddit has every right to be pissed. Can't even imagine.

I'm sorry but how the fuck did Diablo fans not know a new Diablo (core) game wasn't going to get announced? Blizzard basically spelled it out for everyone before Blizzcon. I haven't played a Diablo game and I knew that.

I was pissed at the beginning, but I don't mind now. As long as proper Diablo 4 is still in the working. Now I guess D4 will be slated for 2022 ?

This is pretty much me now, I'm more annoyed at people on this forum and elsewhere trying to handwave and disregard anyone who is upset or critical about how this all happened than I am at Blizzard.

I dont think most people realize how passionate some fans are especially for a game like Diablo... one that started in 1996 and pretty much made Blizzard (Along with warcraft).

Here's a video breakdown on how Blizzard are fudging the numbers for the Diablo: Immortal trailer.

MOD EDIT: Removed video by a known member of online hate groups

Yeah, because booking a flight and hotel and buying a Blizzcon ticket can be done within 2 weeks, especially considering that Blizzcon was sold out by the time they told fans to temper their expectations (and also being very non-committal about it either) after months of hyping up there being a big Diablo announcement at Blizzcon.

I get that Diablo IV is in development and Blizzard will show it when they need to, but what about Diablo 2 remastered? That honestly would have been enough to appease fans. That's all that what needed, Jesus.

If you knew the structure of how the opening ceremony happens then you would have thought that there was going to be a big Diablo announcement. Diablo was the last game talked about and a "what's next" panel was happening right after. Blizzard were sending mixed messages and even if it wasn't D4 I doubt PC hardcore Blizzard fans expected a mobile game made by NetEase to be the major announcement at the convention that they have paid a lot to go to.

They spelled it out a couple weeks ago. People buy tickets months in advance.

Stop lieing. The mobile game is totally reskinned. They made this cause Activision loves money and wants more from the east. Activision does not give a fuck about the loyal Blizzard community as long as they get that money from the east.

all that needs to be said really

I can't feel all that sorry for somebody that spent $2000+ just to attend a possible product announcement. Sounds like he has his head up his ass -- "haven't taken a vacation in 10 years"...."Blizzard products will forever feel like 'just a game' to me now".

Oh but the opportunity cost of my vacation time! If you sit around playing Diablo enough to be this deeply emotionally involved, your time ain't that valuable.

Is everyone working there born yesterday? They've been dealing with dedicated fans for DECADES.

Or maybe they've been ignoring them, which explains the tone deaf announcement and dismissal of criticism.

Even Pachter was surprised. As always everyone's just supposed to nod and agree

I mean, personally Pachter likely doesn't give two shits - in his mind, the market's gonna decide

(And the market is likely gonna make this game end up doing just fine, barring Blizz truly pulling an EA focus group on the level of changing Overstrike into Fuse)

Anticipating backlash in the first place before even revealing a product is always a bad sign for business. Who preemptively has that mindset before announcing something that you want to sell?

Yes I realize that was done in advance. I'm more confused on the shock some people seem to be having as it happened though. Only rumors I saw related to Diablo leading up to the event were Diablo 2 remaster and Diablo mobile.

Activision has nothing to do with it, they're complete different publishers and just sister companies, much like Activision Blizzard is their owner and the holding company of both. This is a Blizzard decision, you can't just put everything on Activision every time Blizzard does something you don't like.

Between the announcement, this thread and the thread where they say the mobile game is intended for hardcore PC diablo fans I'm convinced everyone in charge at Blizzard has gone insane. No one can be this tone deaf and be successful.

Last I knew Kotick oversees the entire company of Activision/Blizzard.

Really isn't rocket science to note after all this time without another Diablo, and the speculation a MMO-based thing was coming...that just releasing a mobile game and no PC game would be a big disappointment to people. EA floundering with their Command & Conquer mobile game should've made that obvious enough.

They would've been better off doing a Diablo 4 alongside this mobile option, or showing the mobile game after announcing a new PC/Console entry.

It would help if they just came out and said: "We are working on Diablo 4"

But it may be too early or they may think it would come off really weak if it was forced on them to make the announcement like this.
It wouldn't help at all unfortunately especially if it's a year or two out we would see the same negativity as always. It happened after diablo 3 with the colors and just the internet in general. I wish they had something else to announce but it even seems like d2 remastered will be next year if not later. It's a losing situation for them because people are pretty unreasonable.

Smdh, if they'd just closed with the announcement that the 32X version of Blackthorne was finally coming to Switch like I suggested this surely wouldn't have happened

Because even though they told fans to temper their expectations, they didn't communicate it very clearly. For one, it wasn't front and center on, say, the BNet launcher like the Diablo community manager talking about how it's a good year for Diablo fans and hyping up Blizzcon had been prior. And second, they were vague about it, too. They didn't outright say "Hey guys, there won't be Diablo 4", but it was more a "there may or may not be Diablo 4, just sayin' y'all."

He super doesn't though.

If I spend 3000 dollars to go to the superbowl to support my team and they lose because someone got injured or the coach got sick, I can be disappointed, but it's not my team's fault I decided to go.

No one "did this" to him.

I love how people don't even care whether or not this game is good, they've just decided they don't want it, because it's a mobile game.

Personally I don't want it because it's a clone of a clone with reused assets made by a company whose primary market refers to as pig farmers due to the treatment of it's customers. The concept of the game is something I can get behind as I enjoyed battleheart legacy, but unlike that it's evident that scant effort has been put into immortal.

This is the primary point I think a lot of defenders are missing.

It's not a game developed by Blizzard. It's a reskinned version of the games NetEase is known for making, this time with recycled D3 assets slapped on top of it. It's a cynical cash grab.

They will make an incredible amount of money in its actual target market, but they will alienate the dedicated fan base they've built up over the years. It's essentially selling them out for the big bucks, which is just a continuation of the trend set by other publishers.

Money means more than anything to the corporations making this stuff, so defending this on any level is just boot licking.
I mean, will they? I get the feeling the "alienated" fans will be right back for Diablo 4.

Are you telling a person they don't have the right to feel upset?
He can feel disappointed, but that post reads as if Blizzard slighted him purposefully and personally.

They didn't. They showed off a product he wasn't interested in and he took it personally...for some reason.

And that's cool.

Let's collectively step over this game and look towards the future.

Blizzard is now over 25 years a household name in PC gaming and they wonder why a outsourced mobile ripoff (as their big Blizzcon announcement)
doesn´t resonate well with their fan base? How delusional can one company be? lol

Last I knew both are different companies much like Rockstar and 2K with different executives, employees and separate companies with no relation between each other except for being sister companies. I'll repeat, Activision have nothing to do with it. Now if you want to say Activision Blizzard have, that's another thing but even then, you can't just throw everything of Blizzard to them, otherwise everything that they do that you like are by them as well.

And they have every right to feel upset, disappointed and depressed by what he saw and heard.

People take things to heart, they do so on a lot of issues. Human nature. Not everyone is like that or will react the same to everything but it's not that hard to figure out.

LOL whiteknighting Blizzard is almost as sad to watch as that product launch.
They shit the bed, they have to deal with it.

Honestly, they should have waited after they had announced Diablo IV and then they could have announced this without receiving this kind of reaction. When he said that although they were expecting a backlash, they did not think it would have been this intense I chuckled, as most fans reaction to things that they are a fan of are extreme, so is either 0 or a 10 without a middle ground. Of course, a said this acknowledging that not everyone will react in that way, but the audience that will most likely share their opinion is the one that is not pleased about it, just like one is more likely to review a product when the product comes with a defect.

If that were true, it would make Blizzard even more out of touch with their fanbase to make an outsourced mobile game deliberately.

It's not a question of were, it is true. Activision and Blizzard are subsidiaries of Activision Blizzard which is a real holding company, not just names thrown together. Saying that Activision has something to do with it is stupid because they have no relation with them outside being behind the same company, which is why only in the last years they even began to use Battlenet for Activision games as a partnership.
