Critique is fine but lol @ people actively keeping track of and reporting on a dislike ratio. There's definitely some corny #OperationDislikeImmortal Discord isn't there.

Holy shit at this thread. Take a breath, everybody. We're all just talking in circles now.

No, a shill is someone who is paid or is acting maliciously.

Someone who is paid is not a shill. They're just doing their job. And there are plenty of happy go lucky shills with no malice in their hearts. It's the opposite really. They just love some brands too much.

But i'll agree that shill is not the best word to use here.

Shill:

"an accomplice of a hawker, gambler, or swindler who acts as an enthusiastic customer to entice or encourage others."

Again, it's malicious, paid or with bad intent. Seriously, there is a difference between a shill or someone who is perhaps too close to see an issue.

You're just wrong.

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/shill?s=t

"a person who publicizes or praises something or someone for reasons of self-interest, personal profit, or friendship or loyalty."

Literally just responded to you
Cool, maybe respond to what I actually wrote in response to you?
Here, I'll requote it:
You said I used that image. I didn't. So thanks for that I guess. Shill is a normal ass word that also happens to be used by gamergaters. I'm not someone who let's their vocabulary get dictated by a bunch of misogynists, nor by you. Report my post to the mods and wait for them to decide if shill should become a banned word here. You're borderline backseat modding right now.
I'll call them corporate apologists then, if that makes you happy. Corporate apologists who walk the extra mile to find reasons for why people are not liking a thing, no matter how ridiculous those reasons are, as long as it's not the company in question who's at fault.

And again, I never called Jason Schreier a shill. That was an assumption on your part.

Gamers are such whiny babies at times.

They aren't allowed to make a mobile game as part of their portfolio of games?

LOL who actually forbids them tho. They can do whatever they want, and the fans that have supported them thus far can also react appropriately if it's misaligned with what they want.

I swear every negative response is so easily labeled 'toxic' nowadays.

Did you accidentally or intentionally leave out the other meaning of the word?

"a person who pretends to give an impartial endorsement of something in which they themselves have an interest."

This meaning doesnt include malice, payment or bad intent. In fact it matches pretty closely with "someone who is perhaps too close to see an issue"

Fuck me. I dont even particularly think they're shills. I think some of the comments are stupid or lack perspective and as such I dont think shills is entirely without merit. But still, arguing the definition of words feels fucking pathetic.

To be fair if the PoE devs actually registered this URL that is pretty toxic lol - http://playdiablo4.com/

But I'm assuming that was a "disgruntled fan".

Era -> Internet -> Era

The URL 'playdiablo4.com' redirects to Path of Exile's website. Coincidentally, an alert member of ResetEra discovered this shortly after the BlizzCon 2018 opening ceremony, which was disappointingly light on news for Diablo fans.

https://www.pcgamesn.com/diablo-4-path-of-exile

Though it says Era found it out prior to this kefuffle.

But PoE did do some mildly suggestive timing social media trolling

I know its F2P and I have a PC, but they really need to get this out on PS4.

you defended other people's use of it. didn't say you called him that
Where. Show me please. I called two specific journalists shills, the one with the toxic masculinity hot take and the one who used a Trump equivalency.
Show me where I defended other people's use of the word towards Jason Schreier. I'll wait.S
Spoiler: I never did and you just blindly lumped me together with other people because that's what you tend to do with people that disagree with you, at least in this thread. I'll also repeat that I never used that dumb picture/collage whatever, yet oyu claimed I did and never took it back, just wildly throwing shit out there hoping that it sticks. I'd call that a toxic way of discussing things but that's just me.

If you had you would see that I have explained that it is more than just downvotes and booing, but please continue to pretend like it isn't! It's helpful!

Since it's the second time you care to reiterate how helpful it is to pretend to not understand something, I assume it's a tactic you use quite often. Your posts in this thread would certainly support that theory.

Hey hey, those people at the stage 'dedicated their entire lives to entertain you' you know, so come on we all need to be gentle with them, I mean, sure it's not like they don't get paid for doing their jobs or it's not like we don't pay money in exchange to what they offer us, but still, for such a huge dedication they need to be shielded from any and all potential words that may harm their feelings.

I mean, what are you people, monsters?

I'm only pointing out what people are doing? You can look at youtube comments and tweets and even posts on this website that go beyond downvoting a video, and yet you're still just reducing it to that. So either you're being intentionally obtuse or you're... what? Think that these things don't exist?

There was a time early on when PoE was very small and D3 was still king when they would ALWAYS schedule D3 updates for the exact same time as the PoE updates. Kripp used to talk about it a lot. The problem was PoE just did way too many updates and Blizz just couldn't keep up lol.

Companies bantering between each other is the best, even if some of it can be staged. At the end of the day, the only thing keeping this industry on its toes at times is competition. Though these days even that's getting tough as with the money involved you can just buy shit out, overpower with marketing budgets or power through bad PR with your fanbase being big enough.

The arrogant Sony/MS seesaw seems to still be in effect. Whenever one gets too far on top its time to let Ken Kutaragi/Don Mattrick out to play. Or with EA we get the blow out once a year or so with the "we've listened to feedback" apology.

Plus for the pessimists amongst us, nearly everything is going the way of seeking as much monetization as possible.

A reason I want to check PoE out is I keep hearing it's F2P done right. Not what some probably expect from a NetEase game. "Done right" is subjective but obviously I mean not P2W or monetized soo severely you can barely go 5 minutes without getting frustrated/time-walled.

and I never said it was

once again

calling a game journalist a shill for a corporation because they had an opinion about mobile gaming you disagree with is shameful and toxic
I'm not calling someone a shill because they disagree with me, I'm calling them a shill when they go to ridiculous levels of reaching to find reasons to deflect any criticims towards a company. Which the two guys in question did in spades.
They didn't have an opinion about mobile gaming, they looked for any reason to discredit anyone who disagreed with them, equating them to Trumpvoters and misogynists. They basically did what you're accusing me of lol.

Jason Schreier for example I happily disagree with on the matter and I'm not calling him a shill. Crazy how this works huh?
i tried

edit: press shill fuck...?

Most people will be able to tell even if rude that jibe was at the product, not at the person announcing it. Detach yourself from the product. Even if you worked on it. Your work potentially being criticized or jibed at is not necessarily you getting called out or personally attacked.
This. Nobody was personally attacking the devs on stage, and the fact that some folks here seem to think that's what happened speaks volumes about their own personal insecurities.

I really don't give two fucks about what comments someone posts on YouTube. The dead silence during the announcement, the downvotes on the trailer and yes, even the joke question during the Q&A are both mild and perfectly acceptable ways to show the disappointment many fans feel.

If you reduce the entire reaction of tens, if not hundreds of thousand of people to cherry-picked YT and Twitter stupidity, that's your problem, but don't act like you have a leg to stand on.

For me, it's how the devs answered. Someone was asking if there was a possibility of the game coming to PC because the majority of the fanbase is on that platform and the devs arrogantly answered "Don't you guys have phones?"

Then they doubled down by saying that the target audience were the hardcore PC fans. So yeah, the blowback is deserved in this issue because of how tone deaf the devs have become.

It's Blizzard teasing their core audience and making a huge announcement at an event only attended by their core audience for something that is (or at least should be) obviously aimed at a very different market. Simple as that.

There' s a market for Diablo Immortal, but you won't find it at Blizzcon.

Ok, that makes sense.

Thanks for the replies.

So you say there is no vitriol but then say that you don't give two fucks about the vitriol? This is a high quality level of Discourse

I've never said that people can't be disappointed by this release, but the way *a lot* of the fanbase has gone about it is incredibly embarrassing. If you want to ignore that and pretend it hasn't happened then fine, live in that world, but don't try and tell me that it isn't happening when it is and then ignoring it when I tell you where to find it

Fuck man I know, I need it for ps4. Even worse grim dawn is slated for Xbox1 but no ps4 because the devs said Sony is being difficult.

I have plenty of issues with PoE, but their monetization scheme sure isn't one of them. Totally worth checking it out to see how you do F2P/microtransactions right.

This is a really stupid post, just because game developers are paid for their work doesn't mean people get free reign to treat them however they want.

Crossplay issues again or something else?

Crossplay is a prime example of Sony being arrogant and blowback changing that tune.

I seen PoE PS4 had been rated somewhere so I am under the impression it will be coming.

No it doesn't, but we have to be honest about when a product or service is being ridiculed and when it's the person. Yes, if you work on something you get emotionally attached, but criticism of your work is not always a personal attack on you as a person.

yes, you're just calling the other bad evil journalists shills. and not because they disagree with you or anything! because they have the wrong opinion. which makes them shills!!
Accusing others of being misogynist because they don't like a mobile game is not an opinion. And if it were an opinion it's a toxic as fuck one. I never called them "bad evil" lmao.
Yes it's not because I disagree with them, since I disagree with Jason Schreier and don't call him a shill for obvious reasons. I actually decide what to call individuals on the merits of what they say and write. This doesn't seem to get through to you for some weird reason (maybe because they are some holy entity to you that's immune to criticism otherwise gamergater blah), but your overreliance on exclamationmarks tells me your argument has run it's course by now anyway.

The "I tried" comment still gets me. Maybe Jason will give you a cookie later on.
