Why couldn't it have been just a spy film with a smart kid. Why did the black man have to be changed into a pigeon, a bird that is considered the rat of the sky and a bird most people actively dislike? Did nobody even once imagine what the optics of that looked like?

Someone will need to make the straight to streaming animated content now that Disney shut its dtv animation studio down.
My exact reaction too. I would actually be interested in an animated Will Smith superspy movie, but this looks lame.
Yep. They visited one week a few years ago and several students who had consultations with them came back hot, saying they were unfairly accused of using auto-riggers. Like we don't have dedicated rigging classes.

I mean, I'd give it a shot. There's a lot about the superspy genre you can poke fun at before you start turning people into birds though.
