Dead Eye system when it comes to moving the pointer and painting multiple targets is so dead slow. What could possibly be wrong? Am I the only facing the slowness? Not able to move the damn thing to the next enemy npc, by the time I move the pointer I'm already out of Dead Eye meter. Anyone with suggestions, thanks in advance!

Copy the settings in the screenshots of the post I'm quoting below

I understand that many people have not been too keen on the way this game controls, whether it be the movement, the aiming/combat, or just the general weightiness of Arthur.

I believe I have a solution to many of these problems, and they are easily fixed in the games settings.

I'm certain that once these settings are adjusted to what I have provided below, you will find yourself having a much better experience with this game, as it essentially makes it control more in line with what you'd expect out of a traditional console TPS/FPS.

So, let's begin shall we.

This first image is accessed by pressing Pause>Settings>Controls>scroll down to the the Third Person / First Person section

The most important thing to note here, is the change to "Standard FPS" for Third Person (and First). This one is a revelation, because it completely gets rid of "tap X/A to sprint", while also fully allowing you to move your camera and look around while running.

It remaps running to clicking the left stick L3; click once to run, click once more to sprint. This is a vastly better and logical alternative to having to tap X/A, because when doing that, you're taking your right thumb off the camera stick, removing the ability to look around while navigating on foot. Tapping X/A is also a tedious headache, so this will be great for those who hate doing that. Naturally, this remaps crouch/stealth to the X/A button.

Also, be sure to adjust all of the other values to the ones provides in the screenshot; they are just as important, and will make your aiming/combat experience feel much smoother and more responsive as a result, guaranteed.

Using these settings, if anything feels a little too fast for you, only adjust the Look/Aim SENSITIVITY settings to what feels comfortable, DO NOT touch the acceleration/dead zone. Acceleration must be all the way up, and dead zone must be all the way down, no matter what.

____________________

This next screenshot is very important for those who also like to enjoy the game in First Person.

These settings are accessed by pressing Pause>Settings>Camera.

The important things to note here are:

First Person Auto Level Camera = Off
First Person Field of View = Max
First Person Head Bobbing = Reduced
First Person Cover = Off

The Auto Level Camera setting is a big one. For some idiotic reason, this is set to On by default. The problem with this, is that whenever you are playing in First Person, and move forward with the left stick, the camera will begin to Auto-Center back to eye-level.

This is very bad, as it completely disregards where you have your camera pointed or what you're trying to focus on, as soon as you start moving Arthur forward. No other FPS game controls like this, and it's just weird and unfortunate that Rockstar even decided this should be in their games (it's also on by default in GTAV)

Field of View is self-explanatory. The default value is extremely low, and makes it feel like you're looking at the world through a tiny window. Please set this to Max. This will greatly improve your enjoyment in First Person.

Head Bobbing is also self explanatory. I appreciate the attempt at immersion here, but Rockstar should know that this doesn't add anything of value to the game, and only looks bad, might even cause motion sickness.

First Person cover is another big one. Trying to have a shoot-out while behind cover in First Person is no-bueno, especially when you have the option to actually see what you're trying to shoot.

_______________________

You may be skeptical of what I'm showing you here, and it might be hard to believe that adjusting them will dramatically improve your experience with the game - I totally understand that, but PLEASE give this a try and see how it feels. I wouldn't have gone through the effort of making such a long and detailed post if I didn't think this will be anything short of an absolute game-changer for you.

Thanks for reading, I hope this helps, and I hope you enjoy this game better as a result.

Painting multiple targets in dead eye is so damn slow and frustrating? Is it supposed to be the way? Does it allow the player to quickly move the pointer across multiple enemies, paint them and take them out in the game?
If they're close enough, and you tag the head for each, you could potentially get a ton of dudes. With manual targetting, at least.

I got 4 guys just now, which felt really good. Not quite wowser but if I had been a little faster, it would've cleared everyone in a single flurry.
Ditto question, so it unlocks after a certain mission?
Correct, you'll see a note about Deadeye manual targetting at the top of the screen when it unlocks. It feels kind of arbitrary, but yeah.

And I'm using standard TPS controls with standard aiming sensitivity, by the way. (Camera sensitivity is bumped up 1 from default. Edit: And dead zone is zero, IIRC.)

I have played "Blessed Are The Meek" four times now with my bandana attached and everytime I finish the mission I have a $300.00 bounty, this last time I didn't even go into the jail, how do I do the mission without getting a bounty?

I guess marking unlocks at the end of Chapter 2.

I am still in Chapter 2 and my Dead Eye is Level 6 or 7 right now, I can see the organs of certain animals while in Dead Eye, not humans though. Can't mark yet as well.

Up your aiming speed and acceleration and put dead zone to zero, don't use default settings.

And of course you can paint over multiple people.

Going to check it out and try as suggested by another fellow member!

Nice to hear, wonder which mission it is though and how far off I am from getting that manual unlock. I am at 25% completion and not sure I am done with chapter 2!

You always get a bounty.

How much money do you have on you? When I first tried it, I had something like $200 on me and got the $300 bounty. I reloaded a save and tried it again after getting my cash down to $50 and got a $85 bounty instead. Not sure I did anything different except made sure my bandana was on and did it in the evening rather than night.

Already time for a new OT? Wow

My copy is just arriving finally. Pre Ordered and Amazon failed to deliver day 1

What should I do with the controls?

I really wouldn't sweat the bounties. Even 300 is nothing--you aren't prevented from entering an area, and only have a small chance of being bothered about it. Unless larger towns change things up.

You get it in Chapter 2, so you must be really close.

Also something that happened in the game which made me feel depressed and shut it down. No spoilers, but one thing led to another and I was trying to hunt any animal (for food and replenishing the cores). I ended up spotting a dear. I used the arrow to hunt and my first shot wasn't quite successful enough to finish the job. The deer was struck and it was frantically sprinting away from me and then puff fell down after a brief distance. Now I am hearing it wail incessantly and I am feeling terrible. I get up close to it and the deers legs are twitching while it wails, god rockstar and their attention to detail made me feel so sad. As I went ahead with putting it out of it's misery (Kratos helping Atreus to do the same thing in God of War), I could see it's eyes go wide and shut. Then I just switched off the game and that was two days ago. As someone who wouldn't even hurt a fly(except for mosquitoes) in real life and I just couldn't continue playing the game a couple of nights ago after this incident. I get it this is just a game, but man it hit me hard. Rockstar Games are just insane at the attention to detail in their games. Anyways, back to using the standard controls layout and check out the dead eye system.

I have done it in the daytime, the last time I did the mission I didn't even speak to the sheriff I just broke the guy out of the jail, I will try it at night, I only have about $180.00.

It doesn't help that the guy keeps shouting your name all the time either.

I kind of think the bounty amount is dependent on the cash you have on hand. Try and spend/donate a good portion of the cash and try again (only if you want to, of course).

Playing a cardsgame and complaining about RNG lmao. I know what you mean though.

I wonder if you're playing poker and blackjack the game treats it as completely RNG or more in favor of the player.
Gambling

How does it work

Oh come on! That's not what I meant.

This isn't about odds/winning money like real gambling. This is about the requirement being something so totally unnatural to do in the way blackjack is played. 3 hits and win is crazy. In game terms, trying to go for a goal that's so completely out of a players control is a bummer and bad design.

Dutch is an asshole.

Dude spends the whole chapter not moving more than three feet from his tent and then just decides to go into town knowing there are people who want his head nearby. Just frustrating to spend the chapter contributing to the camp and all this shithead can do is say "Keep it comin'." and fuck it up for the rest of the gang.

I don't even feel like hunting and never did any of the hunting activities in RDR1 or any other game that had hunting in it.

These sudden time of day changes are such immersion breakers.

I had sunset with fog in one mission and as soon as I left the area it switched to clear night instantly :( like there was some invisible wall.

Weird, yeah, I did that mission with a mask on in the daytime and only got a $75 bounty despite killing every lawman.

Yeah, I wish the time of day progression were a little slower so we could appreciate the sunsets and sunrises a little longer.

Hell, I wanted to be at a specific spot in the game at 2am so I slept at a campfire until midnight. By the time I ran over 50 yards to the location it was damn near 2am already. Time moves FAST.

Agreed, they can be pretty jarring. And I'm pretty sure days are shorter in this game than they are in GTA...which sucks. You'd think they would make the days longer in a game like RDR since it's slower paced and you wanna appreciate each time of day more.

Here's hoping they become aware of it and fix in a patch.

All we need is that, PS4 Pro reconstruction, HDR, and the missing people at camp bug fixed and then it will be perfect!

Oh, and patch in some decent default control settings while they're at it (they won't do this but it would be great, until then I'll keep pestering people to change them).

They REALLY need to change this. In RDR 1 sunrise/set lasted like 5 minutes or more so you can gradually see it change and appreciate it. In RDR 2 they literally last SECONDS, literally just watch it for like 15 seconds and it's gone, it's absurd.

The day/night cycle is way too short (like GTA), it needs to be longer, like 1 1/2-2 hours/day with sunrise/set lasting around 15 min or so each.

Wow, after restarting the game and see what it's like to have John, Abigail, Jack and Sadie in the camp, the difference is massive. Man, what a nasty bug this is....

I really hope they patch this, cause it was really awesome to have these people with us. They are among the best characters in the gang. I am so glad I restart the game, this is how it's meant to be played.

EDIT: I also love how I can hear them fighting in the distance all the time, poor John.

I have $180 I paid for upgrades at the camp, I just did the mission again at midnight and I got $300 bounty again, I noticed as soon as you break the guy out when the Wanted flashes up it says Arthur Morgan!

I'm sorry but this is pointless if you cannot do this mission without getting a bounty, IGN and others have posted videos and they didn't get a bounty!

I don't believe that they did it without a bounty. The whole thing is too bloody to not get a bounty.

Seriously...go spend almost all of your money and try again. You have already done it this many times, try it once more with less money ($50).

edit: Also, the bandana is not some magic invisibility cloth.
