I have no idea why you wouldn't release First Man in July 2019, you know, the 50th anniversary of the actual moon landings?

Poor First Man, did the stupid controversy about the flag from the right wing actually sink that movie? It was a more worthy effort than the numbers are showing -- great spectacle, acting, and story.

It's really just not an interesting premise to general audiences honestly. Everyone knows what happens. The trailers did it no favors.

Compare it to Apollo 13. You knew what was going to happen but...

"Houston, we have a problem."

That shit put butts in seats.

You gon make a big space movie like that, there's gotta be some kinda crowdpleasing element. The humor and can-do camaraderie of The Martian, the visceral thrills of Gravity, the sense of wonder and open sentiment of Interstellar.

First Man stars the most boring man on the planet, shot in shaky color drained close-ups, with set pieces that are shaky close-ups of buttons and glass helmets. Aint nobody trying to see that, dawg. Going to the Moon in and out itself isn't special when Star Wars has taken us to dozens of planets already.

This sounded great on paper, but that first trailer was disastrous

Oh well

First Man was great, audiences just don't appreciate good films half the time. How else do you think Marvel and Bayformers movies are such big financial successes lol

Bohemian Rhapsody is killing it so far. Deadline's estimate for the weekend has shot up to $49M when tracking was in the mid-30's. With the mixed reviews and the controversy surrounding Bryan Singer this has to be one of the shocks of the year. Its also sucking up all of Nutcracker's air. May not even make $20M this weekend!

Star is Born is still showing excellent legs, with another 25% drop even with a competing music based film launching. $200M domestic seems possible now. Maybe with the help of a re-release at Oscar time.

Rami Malek has been killing the promo pole dance. Well deserved.

Hopefully his star continues to rise. We need more boy stars who can rock a double breasted.

Halloween is imploding this weekend. Friday dropped 66% from last weekend.

$200M domestic is dead and buried. Looking more like $175M now.

Still a huge gross given the budget and genre.

Honestly, has Disney Live-Action ever been good? Like, I'm trying to wrack my head for a non-Marvel, non-Star Wars film of theirs that was decent and I just can't think of anything except Pirates 1.

ASIB > Venom domestic is still on track

Unless Venom also gets nominated for Best Picture because all bets are off then

Their live action remakes aren't amazing but they're waaaaaay better than their yearly "who the fuck is this for" live action releases that bomb spectacularly at the box office every time

So pleased with Venom's performance.

Hopefully it beats Justice League for the laughs.

The biggest issue with the genre is that after the fact of release it has limited appeal. Everyone knows what it is and what they'll get, which is an odd thing to say, but the slasher genre has never really competed strongly over time of release. 66% could just be the movie readjusting from the upfront hype and interest that got so
many people to see it so quickly.

Venom is aligning pretty strongly to Logan (and will probably beat it this week) which earned another 21m at the box office.

As good as ASIBs Friday hold is (-25) Venom is no slouch either with (-31).

Justice League 5th Friday $1,063,461
29th Total $216,349,808

Venom 5th Friday $1,975,000
29th Total $192,788,348

Venom is 24m behind Justice League but did almost twice as much this Friday. Justice League earned roughly another 15m from this point, meaning that if Friday holds for the rest of Venoms run it could earn another 26-28m, beating Justice League. Venom looks like it might be overtaking Logan on a weekly basis which earned another 19m from this point, Venom could just barely recover the 24m needed to beat Justice League over the remainder of its run. :P

ASIB > Venom domestic is still on track

It could depend on it getting a re-release, as it's still 35m behind. They could end up virtually tied.

I knew it would be successful but I never imagined an R-rated musical making this much money and barely dropping every single week (especially this week when another musical came out). I wonder how much money it would have made if it were PG-13 instead. It feels like the only real reason it was R is because of how much they say fuck lol.

There's plenty of sexuality/substance abuse in there

(also theres a blink and ya miss it shot of naked Lady Gaga standing up in the bath tub telling Bradley Cooper to get out)

I was speaking more about WW but thanks for the numbers.
