America, man. Broaden your tastes.

It would be the same list in europe with some Fifa taking a few spots.

We're in a global world nowadays and when you put all of society into a pool it's going to be a pretty homogenized mess. We all have the same shit taste as one another when viewed in a group of tens of millions.

I love that everyone calls Xbox the shooter box but the PlayStation is basically as bad.

Yep. Especially when you consider that Fallout 4 and Destiny 2 also sold gangbusters on PS4, they just happened to be slightly outsold by two sports titles.

The same types of games are the most popular no matter which system people own. At least in America.

Rightly or wrongly, I don't think anyone ever sanely thought multi-platform shooters sold less on PS4 than on Xbox One, just that 'other genres' sold to a higher proportion of their console base.

And people keeps saying that COD is dying for years when it's a monster of a franchise. Look at how many there's on the list and the series is annual. Incredible.

I like a lot of games on this list... but damn, I just gotta say that I'm glad gaming is more diverse than those titles, yeesh

It shows you were gaming as a whole in the US is focused. These are the titles that draw the most people, the big bombastic releases with tons of spectacle.

Seeing Halo and God of War get onto their respective lists is impressive considering the machines that are pumping out all the 3rd party titles.

I'm just shocked not to see Uncharted 4. I had no idea God of War sold more. Spiderman will join the party for sure.
uncharted sold a lot of copies in bundles with the system, which aren't counted here

And where the hell are Horizon 3 and Gears 4 on Xbox One ?
they probably just missed the top 10. for sure in 11-20.

Forza Horizon 3 came out after Gears 4, but its a racing game, so for the US market thats its disadvantage.
i just saw that it was confirmed recently that it had sold 2.5 million, but racing games seem to be bigger in europe.

Damn impressive showing for GOW, crazy to see a first party exclusive place so high in our current market

If bundles were included, UC4 would be higher than GOW.

I mean, do we get this when Japan is full of RPGs? I understand encouraging diversity, bit this is a reflection of popularity, and these games are fairly different even though they share the same perspective. GTA5, Cod, Battlefield, Halo are world's worlds apart despite focusing on guns.

what do we think the next exclusive for both that missed the list is?
my guess is
gears 4 or forza horizon 3 for xbo
uncharted 4 or the last of us for ps4

i'd be very interested to see this too. my guess is all the games on it would be from 2012/2013.

My guess would be
Gears 4 for xbo
Uncharted 4 for ps4

Forza Horizon 3 came out after Gears 4, but its a racing game, so for the US market thats its disadvantage.

The Last of Us on ps4 was heavily bundled, but came out before UC4. I still think UC4 did better outside of bundles though.

According to Matt's post, Spider-Man will be on the PS4 list next month. So probably that for Sony.

I honestly wonder how much it's worth it for Sony to keep paying for exclusive content when it's not really pulling people to the system. Sure, it's ultimately minor content, but I can't imagine that it's cheap.

To quote Matt again in that above link, remember Destiny sold as 3 different versions which were all counted separately.

Nice to see both platforms with at least one first party title there. I imagine the lists would be fairly different if we included the rest of the world? Like, UC4 over GoW or something?

i don't think a top 10 of best selling current gen games from japan would have as many jrpgs as you may think.

a LOT of fifa, definitely no NBA games.

I'm pretty sure we got some indication that GoW sold better than UC4 in a couple of European countries, so I don't think it would change much. GoW is simply a bigger series than Uncharted.

In Europe it would probably be largely dominated by the Trinity GTA/FIFA/CoD.

Those are the games that made last gen so it is logical.

Damn son, I bet Sony is salivating at the fact of having a God of War 2/Spider Man 2 after the first/second year of the PS5.

So funny how many people were talking as if Call of Duty's death was just around the corner a few years ago.

Red Dead 2 is coming for its seat at the table too. It will be on this list by year's end, I am certain.

I wonder how Destiny and Destiny 2 would rank if their GOTY (Taken King and Forsaken Legendary editions) were added to the fray.

Is it not selling well enough on PS4? A bit hard to judge without knowing what it takes to break into PS4's top 10 software ranking.

edit: So all the software on the PS4 list are above 3 million. Hmm.

i don't follow NPD threads a lot but just based on people's comments i saw here or there i thought cod this gen was just a shadow of what it was last gen. i was very surprised to see the lists in the OP.

It's not so much that it's not selling a lot (it is), but one has to wonder just how much it's worth it to keep paying for exclusive content if it's not making the case for potential buyers to play it on Playstation over Xbox, as it looks like they're pretty close. The same argument could be made for CoD, though I think we're already seeing Activision scale back the windows for the releases on PS4 as it is.

Man, super interesting to see how the N/A market taste is almost the same on both consoles (both in genre, and games). Whatever that is good or bad, well, dependes on what you like. Thanks for the info MatPiscatella.

Edit. Any reason why bundles are not counted? Or it was because the bundles doesn't reflect the revenue of the game itself?

Testing the waters with these to see what feedback I get... hopefully.

Peeps sure do love Vita charts. I swear they get the most engagement of any of the charts I post every month.
Thanks for sharing sir. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the next ones.

Man, this really takes me back to the good 'ol days of actual sales numbers in the chart. You know, early Xbox 360 and Wii setting the US on fire and Kinect blowing up the charts. Fond memories of waiting to see who 'won' Christmas and by how much. Shame its become so less transparant, but than again I also understand why its shifted to what it is now.

Halo 5 actually had some pretty good legs then?

It didn't have a good launch by Halo standards, but here it is 3(?) years later.

Also, Sony had a marketing deal with like 80% of these games.
