People don't listen on Resetera and set them selves up for disappointment, you should know this.

Diablo 3 TODAY is great. It isn't dumb it just isn't to your taste. You are being an elitist so at least own it.
You could have said the same about card games and Hearthstone... or when Blizzard broke into MMOs. They are pretty good about carving out the player base and even expanding on it.

The thing is who really knows if this will be an "abomination" I bet you it won't be though. It could be good.
No one here is debating whether this abomination of a game will have monetary success though. Just like Hearthstone has nothing on Magic, this will not be the least bit original. Its a literal asset-flip being outsourced to another studio.
It IS a dumbed down game, no question. They automated everything. Everything recharges all the time. Doesn't matter how you spend your "mana". You only have four active skills at once. In D2 I could use ALL my skills whenever I wanted if I had the mana. It was more complex and more fun because of this. Diablo 3 is a fine game. They streamlined everything, but for the worse. All the items feel the same because of how weapon damage affects your skill damage. I don't like that at all. So again, it's not elitist to say that Diablo 3 is a dumbed down game. It is. Is it fun? Yes, of course, but it's no Diablo 2.
I'm stoked for WC3R but how fucking hard is it to make a remaster? For a company of this size to only be able to put out that in 2019 with no word of Diablo 2 is nuts.
That mobile game did not look interesting at all, and no talk about a remaster, D4 teaser, or hell even discussion on the rumored Netflix series.

Not many thought D4 was being announced what are you on about? D2 remaster was the prevalent thought or maybe even a new class for D3 but not many were thinking about D4 since Blizzard pretty much already said it wasn't gonna be announced. The shock is in the wait to get to the Diablo segment and the closing announcement which is usually exciting was instead a mobile game that people will play but no one gets "excited" for them.

Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls isn't a good game. Blizzard knows this which is why they're letting it die, but just give it pity updates. Like, there's a shit load of problems with Diablo 3 today:
- Itemization is awful because yellow items are useless and you are funneled to a specific set
- Crafting is useless
- End-game is stale without any custom features
- Levels are meaningless
- The leagues are uninspired and super boring
- Your builds are dependent on your item set

I don't really agree. Hearthstone was pretty original as a video game, there wasn't much like it when it came out. And there wasn't a ton of Everquest 2 like mmos before WoW came out.
I used to mess around with D2 Bnet every year or so but they deleted all my chars in a purge earlier this year.
Nah, Hearthstone literally created the market for online card games. Yeah there was Magic Online but the UI was awful and it attempted to replicate Magic 100% which didn't work that well on the computer or for a casual audience. Hearthstone dumbed down the rules but also had a great UI, great graphics and sound and made it accessible to a wide audience. It's like how MP3 players were around before but then Apple came out with the iPod.

This must be the year of shitting on the graves of old cherished franchises... First the Command and Conquer mobile bullshit, then Fallout battle royale and now this.
Extremely let down by Diablo project. Mostly because it looks like hot garbage graphically. Looks like Diablo 3 on some hidden "lower than low" settings.

Hearthstone is extremely polished, and had a good idea (static mana climb), but it has always been a stripped down CCG compared to decades worth of games.
