How hard can it be to develop a shuffling algorithim
The worst part is there should be no algorithm. Just do pure random and fuck off with the BS.

Worst offender is shuffler is even worse on mobile. It just picks about a hundred songs and then loops them, it's pretty obvious in a long car ride. They're incompetent as fuck.

I don't have any problems with my shuffle.
However, Spotify's shuffle is not truly random and is algorithmic, which means they likely update/change it from time to time. Perhaps they made changes that unbalanced the weighting for you? They like to roll changes out regionally, by platform, or even by type of music you listen to.
Yes, this is the problem. They are using some unique algorithm and it changes, which ends up having bugs in it.

If you search, there is a long history of people complaining "Why can't Spotify just get a basic shuffle right?" lol.

They know 95% of people don't notice and don't care, only the nerds give a shit about it so they just ignore it.

It seems to shuffle in the same order, or similar order during consecutive jam sessions.

Very annoying
This is the problem I have with Google play... and hell... going back years ago media player did it too. I've tried to turn it off then turn it back on but it doesn't reshuffle shit. It's in the same "random" order. Making a "random" number generator was one of the earliest programs I had to write in a java class.

Maaaaybe this is an actual Spotify bug, but it is also definitely a classic human psychology / computer science problem, and every major media delivery service has been drowned in customers complaining that "shuffle isn't random!!!" since forever

https://www.independent.co.uk/life-...m-shuffle-feels-far-from-random-10066621.html

But winamp/foobar (and most other legacy media players) fixed this ages ago.
I don't understand why they won't copy that.
Unfortunately spotify support in other media players seems dead.
I wonder if any of the other streaming services would work..

I only use one playlist with Spotify. It's basically a huge "my favorite songs" list. Around 52 hours of music right now. I've never noticed any issue with playing this playlist on shuffle. Seems to shuffler randomly

Otherwise I just listen to full albums not on shuffle.

My shuffle is always crap. The only way I've gotten it to work properly is by logging out and back in to Spotify, but that's such a pain in the ass.

Since the majority of their users are free users (potential customers), and free users are/were locked into shuffle, my guess is that it was coded to weigh popular songs above true randomness so that free users never went too long with hearing a hit.

Just a guess, though.

Had this issue yesterday. I have like, 3000 songs. I hit shuffle all and it played Coheed for 40 songs. It even repeated songs. I love Coheed, but if I wanted just that, I'd have have shuffled my coheed list.

I wish there were a shuffle feature where it avoids playing the same artist after each other, that would make me happy enough.

Yep, my experience has been that once shuffle starts, it'll play a rotation of two or three artists, then maybe after an hour, it'll go completely random. It's annoying sure, but I'll deal with it for now, compared to other services that often suggest garbage for their recommended stations.

This is a known problem with Spotify. If you have your playlist arranged in chronological order (I.e. when you added those songs) it will default to the same order constantly, overplaying the same few songs.

Rearranging the list to Alphabetical fixes this.

I have never had this issue, it's wired how prevalent it seems to be. I listen to my Spotify probably 6 plus hours a day, have over 3000 downloaded songs...

I listen to the same shuffled playlist almost every day, occasionally adding new stuff to it. I can verify the OP is somewhat correct.
I think it's based on Play Count? It's ALWAYS the most recent stuff I've added first, then gradually gets to the stuff I added long ago. Every single day.

I've had this problem in the past, but I found that if you scroll all the way through the playlist before shuffling it seems to be OK. It's a pain, but it's a workaround I guess.

Still has issues for me. It's not terrible, but each time I shuffle all it sticks to like 5 or 6 artists until I back out and try again. Then it picks a new handful of artists. It's not a true shuffle like back in the Winamp days.

Also: fuck the app. It decided the other day to pretend I didn't have Premium, and to my surprise I not only gives you a completely different UI when you're not Premium, but takes away your ability to see your saved songs. When I went to Get Premium it showed I already was...

Finally started working later on but wow.
