Another I liked, that Grace hasn't been forgotten. Despite her being dead, she is still a major character in Grahm's and Ryan's lives and her absence is still keenly felt.

It did seem a bit strange that, faced with an American goon waving a gun around, the off-duty police officer didn't think to point out that his use of firearms in Sheffield was highly illegal. I waited in vain for Yaz to speak up.
I'm trying really hard to get into this season but this example right here describes the writing so far to me. Who has always been a bit silly and a bit convenient, but this series is hitting it hard. Every character only acts in whatever way allows the plot to move forward even when it's completely against their character or any amount of logic to do so. Even the Doctor. I keep noticing it every episode. It all seems so sloppy. This last episode barely even ended, it just...ran out of steam. And the trump commentary was like a 14 year olds idea of political satire.
Every episode used to feel like they were trying to pack too much in but now these episodes have the opposite problem and feel like they're trying to pad it out. I'm not feeling it yet. Chibs got me nervous.

- I'm still bemused by how this episode just ends. The spider gets shot, the Doctor moans, and then cut to unrelated Doctor/companion stuff. How did they get out when they couldn't earlier? What about the spiders in the panic room? More to the point, what about the spiders in the rest of the city? How did Najia feel about being nearly killed by giant spiders? Where did the zoologist go? What happened to the mummified bodies? Anything. I would've taken a minute long scene of not-Trump going back to his office, looking slightly remorseful, and then a spider crawls on a wall behind him and we cut to outside the room as he screams. Anything.

I was enjoying the episode as an okay monster of the week episode though I do agree the episode sort of fell apart at the end.

I thought it was funny how the Doctor was talking about how they were going to treat the spiders with dignity and weren't going to shoot them but it seems like the plan was just to lock them up in the panic room and let them slowly starve to death (or maybe grow big enough until they can't breath and suffocate)? That seems a lot more cruel than just shooting them.

I kinda liked the fact the big spider had gotten too big and was having problems breathing but yeah just having it be shot was kinda an anti-climactic ending.

Not as good as last week but I enjoyed it except that it ended rather suddenly after the mother spider was shot, effectively sweeping the Doctor's gassing solution under the rug.

Confirmed that some more missing Doctor Who is getting the animation treatment, with a new animated release to be shown by the BFI this December:

Vince Hill at The Talk of the Town (BBC 1969) will be introduced by Vince Hill himself, who is celebrating his 60th year in showbiz. Alongside this we are delighted to screen a brand new animation of a missing Doctor Who episode and, back by popular demand, the infamous Stars and Garters segment that proved such a huge hit at our 2016 event. We also sneak in a very special – once missing – clip of the late, great Aretha Franklin from It's Lulu (1970).

Watched Arachnids last night and was overall pleased with it. The writing of The Doctor was easily the best so far. She was throwing a bit of authoritative weight around here more than she has in previous episodes and she was written a little more alien than in previous episodes. I loved the Ed Sheeran bit. The giant spiders were well done. It's a bit of a cheap scare but it was an effective one.

There are still bits of awkward editing that keep popping up. The ending is a mess. The cutaway after the giant spider is shot by Chris Noth is jarring. There is no real conclusion to the fate of the rest of the spiders other than to assume they are all locked up and eventually die of a lack of food.

Also, there is an argument for Noth's approach to the whole thing. I would argue that trapping spiders and starving them to death is worse than just killing them.

I also caught the episode last night and thought it was merely ok. Probably the weakest of the series so far for me, but to be fair I've really enjoyed the previous eps. There was a lot I liked, such as Grace talking to Graham, the Doctor's cheery attitude to things like the sofa and being adamant about going next door to get the parcel. also really liked the spider cgi, too. As others have pointed out though, I did feel the resolution was sloppily handled and I didn't like the way that Yaz didn't mention she's an off-duty officer to the gun-wielding bodyguard/Trump-a-like. Her mum, Najia, reminded me a lot of Martha's mum too, with the constant wanting to know about the Doctor.

I'm looking forward to next week's episode as I was wondering if they'd touch upon visiting a future hospital, what with Ryan's dyspraxia and Graham's cancer in remission.

This episode was so Russell T Davies-era that I almost got nostalgic. I mean that mostly in a good way (because I love that era); it had all those great, grounded character moments you'd want and lots of corniness, but at the same time the main plot and the monsters were a bit crap. Also, while I enjoy on-the-nose, cheesy semi-villains, they went too far with the Trump-allusions.

Not the best episode exactly, but I enjoyed it for what it was and after many series am well-accustomed to the fact that to watch Doctor Who you need to be in it for the long haul and not expect great plots every time.

I originally thought Jodie's doctor was a cross between 10 and 11, but this last episode made me think she is closer to 4 in her quirks and attitude . Plus that episode felt a little more like the original, and manage to have some educational elements to it.

The hotelier is most definitely going to come back in a future episode, isn't he? Him and Spacist from last week seem like they would return in some shape.

Anyway, I actually really enjoyed this episode.

Big Finish have announced a new project along similar lines to the The Women Who Lived book:

itoEkPv.png

Four stories, each led by significant women from Who history; Ace with Benny Summerfield, The Paternoster Gang, River Song with Leela (which strikes me as perhaps an odd combination?) and Kate Stewart with Osgood.

Loved the episode!

That fake Trump was great, the fire and fury line was perfect level of cheese.

The whole "Im figuring out who I am still" should not be a thing 4 eps in. There is no character development going on. Doctor feels like they just took Tennant's doctor and removed the serious half leaving only the zany.

They don't seem to know how to end plotlines. Stories just seem to peter out with an abrupt end. You think there will be a denouement after the commercial break, but when the show resumes and has moved on to something else.

The Ace/Benny teamup seems the most interesting, especially considering what happened in Survival.

I like Jodie as the new Doctor (more than I expected in fact) and ep 1-2 were nice, but I've been quite bored with 3-4, 50/50 for this season so far.

This really feels like a RTD season with humor/banter that isn't as well-executed. Lots of character development, good cast, well-shot. Seems like there's a pretty clear plan for how all the characters progress.

I think everything been solid, but outside of Rosa no other good/great episodes.

Rosa is really the only great episode the rest is fine

But I haven't hated anything yet at least

The first two episodes had a lot of great ingredients that didn't quite come together to make a good meal.
Rosa was nearly perfect, but dropped the ending with that song and the denouement. (personal choice, but hey I guess it worked for Vincent and the Doctor, the best episode ever, so what do I know?)
The spiders was hilarious, and I loved it, even though it had problems up and down the stack.

Jodie is great, and I love each companion. Bradley Walsh is my favorite right now, which I didn't expect.

They are handling the Graham/Ryan storyline in a pretty naturalistic way that I am enjoying, and Yaz's actress is so likable that it both papers over how thin her characterization is and makes that thinness all the more frustrating. Really looking forward to the episode about her grandmother.

As for 13, her performance in the most recent episode was probably her best ("maybe this is who I am, socially awkward.") even when the main plot let her down. I loved that she didn't try to sell them on how wonderful their adventures would be and instead made sure they were making an informed decision. This Doctor is way less in love with herself than any of the modern ones and that is an interesting choice.

I think those are the biggest two, but I'd suggest that I've managed to have the heartstrings tugged by Human Nature/The Family Of Blood and - as perhaps a bit of a leftfield suggestion - The Girl Who Waited.

What, I thought it was already confirmed?

I'm 100% sure there's a special this year. They filmed 11 episodes but the season proper only has 10.
Even when they took a year-long hiatus

for 2016, they had a Christmas special. (Saw that one last weekend and really loved how goofy it is.)

Nope, will be an hour long episode on new years day though

At least it's only a week delay, not that big a deal in its own right, though I think it's kinda funny they're not doing one since the whole reason Moffat did Twice Upon a Time at all was because Chibnall did not want to run his first episode at Christmas and Moffat thought if Doctor Who skipped Christmas one year the show would end up losing that slot entirely going forward.

Unless there is a terribly important narrative reason why that special has to be post-Christmas, I think Chibnall is making a huge mistake.

Given how late the new season recordings are taking place, that episode might even be the only episode we get in 2019.

Father's Day. CG has aged terribly but the core story is one of the best emotional stories Who has ever done imo
