Is the entire game running at 30 fps ? Or is just the vertical and horizontal piece movement choppy as fuck? I'm playing on Pro, BTW.

Seriously....PSVR is the best way to play. Lowest latency, highest FPS, and visuals effects just as great as playing on the TV albeit lower IQ.

I don't even like Tetris ffs....lol I'm not in it for whatever competitive scene it may spawn with the full game but the experience of the visual effects and the music is enough to make you smile in amazement.

HDR seems a little dim? And I'm on a Sony Z9D

When turning the HDR on, put the in-game brightness to 10. I know, in almost every other game that would mean blown out brights and washed out blacks, but Tetris Effect behaves differently with this setting - it seems to be made for Brightness to be at 10 when HDR is on. It doesn't blow out the brights and the blacks are still inky black. Playing it like this is actually the closest thing I've seen to a PS4 game feeling like it has Dolby Vision even though it's only HDR10.

I'm on a different TV (Vizio PQ65-F1), but both our displays have similar tech (LED with local dimming) so I think we should be having similar experiences.

From what I've seen, the price is still too much. Not for me personally but I can see a lot of people sleeping on this just because of that and I don't blame them.

Is rumble not working for anyone else? It's set to music and gameplay and my controller hasn't moved once.

Definite different strokes, as I've played Tetris literally every day since it released on Game Boy and found this transcendent. I'm a huge Miz/Lumines fan, though. Definitely think this'll take getting used to and it probably won't ever replace my daily driver Tetris (Axis on 3DS) but I still fell head over heels.

Yeah for me I'm not looking for a Brand New definitive Tetris. The draw here for me is 100% miz' style applied to a Tetris game+VR andand nails exactly what I wanted out of that combo

Way way into this. Will go great with Rez and lumines

Just played in VR. The visuals are amazing... But I'm either really good or really bad lol.

Like sometimes I go on a great and keep the them breaking at the bottom but then I fuck up once and begin to freak out and fail.

I love Lumines. Like, a lot. I enjoy Tetris but don't love it. This game is doing everything to make me love the game despite not loving Tetris. It's like if you basically said "I wonder what this would be like if it was Tetris" when you played Lumines.

I came back to play it without vr... Yeah I won't be doing that again. It's still a solid game, but I need that extra sauce. But at least I figured out that the orbit controls are kinda broken in vr. It works fine when I turn it off.

Just played a bit and yeah, definitely gonna be an instant buy. Quick question, will the final game have multiplayer of any sorts?

I found this https://www.usgamer.net/articles/tetris-effect-competitive-multiplayer
So sorta?

So freaking addictive and the music is amazing, played the demo for 2 hour straight!

First time I pre-ordered a digital title. You got me Mizuguchi!

I hope it doesn't happen like Rez OST where we had a different (inferior) version of Mindkiller.

Well they do have to piece it together into an actual song. That said, Mindkiller (the version in game) is responsible for so much of my musical taste. I discovered Adam Freeland and in turn discovered The Bloody Beetroots because of one of his mixes. Basically that song resulted in about 30% of my music being electronic.

In Journey mode, I wish there was a seamless transition between levels, instead of a 10 second pause in the gameplay. I love this aspect of Lumines and wish it was here as well.

Jesus, this is actually the best video game ever made. I'm buying a PSVR on launch day just to play it.
I agree. I can't believe I'm saying this but this might legit be the best game of this generation. I was not prepared by how entranced I'd be at everything. It felt like an experience more than a game.

I don't know...looks super blurry in VR and Tetris isn't something I'd spend 40 dollars on.

Would have preferred Child of Eden VR...

Zone really doesnt do much other than style. At most you'll get an extra second to think at higher difficulties.

Its cool though. If there's any game to make me think about buying a PSVR, its this one.

I much preferred playing this in 4K HDR than PSVR honestly. The VR mode was neat but that damn drifting is annoying.

Really enjoyed the demo. I want it, but not sure I can justify the price for how much time I actually put into it. But I will get it if only to support games like this.

I expected Lumines, but with Tetris... And that's exactly what this game is.

But the price is too steep for me. I'll pick it up in a sale.

This game is absolutely stunning. I ended up playing the demo for over 3hrs tonight. It's my favorite PS4 game of all time without a doubt.

1. Wish the screen was zoomed in a bit.

2. Wish there was an option for Classic Tetris rules.

1. FYI you can adjust the default zoom level at Options > Gameplay > Camera Zoom (or adjust in real-time with the left stick; right stick adjusts the angle, which is kinda just for fun)

2. No bearing on all the rules on lock-down and such, I know, but FWIW there is an option to set the Tetriminos to their "classic" colors. (Out of curiosity, which Classic Tetris game are you a fan of?)

Ok, so essentially we have

- The synaesthesia of Lumines
- The perfect gameplay loop of Tetris
- The psychedelic aesthetics of Rez
- The incredible immersion of VR

ALL.IN.FUCKING.ONE.

Does it sound like the best game ever made? Yes, yes ti does.

Wish I could tell you they'd fix it, but Lumines Remastered still has some awful framerate problems on Switch all these months later.
Oh well, it seems that people didn't noticed the slowdown here, I guess everyone have the Pro :'D

How this can be on VR if on TV can't handle 60fps sometimes... strange, I guess they lowered resolution and effects a lot, at least for base PS4.

BTW on the Effect mode I can't get past 80-90 lines with velocity at 9, I'm noob.

A thing that I don't like is that the music is waaaay to slow to kick in, the singing part begins at 50 lines/5-6 minutes of gameplay in the effect mode...

I finished the first level in the Story Mode at max difficulty and the singing started when I reached the 36 lines required to go into next level... what a bummer, that's the best part :(

Yeah, I'm the same, the music will kick in and I'll be like "Noooo, please last a little longer, ngghhhhhhhh". But I think we will get better with time, and thus enter a trance mode where we will last more too :-)

Yeah the problem comes when they leave out lots of parts of the track, like with the boss track of Rez Infinite, for example (let alone Mindkiller OST ver. being a different track).

A thing that I don't like is that the music is waaaay to slow to kick in, the singing part begins at 50 lines/5-6 minutes of gameplay in the effect mode...

yep, and even when it kicks after the 50 lines part it just plays another small loop till the next 50. Music doesn't really flow well like in Journey mode.

They should just play the whole track after the first kick (say at 20 blocks, for example) and loop it.

My thoughts exactly. I paid 36 for it, but I'd pay 60.
This!

Good Lord, I've never seen this much kvetching over a price. Game is freaking gorgeous.

Don't wanna pay $36? Then pay $15 and get that shitty "We don't have a clue how to optimize fucking Tetris on the PS4" abomination Ubisoft put out called Tetris Ultimate. Or pay nothing and get Tetris Blitz on your phone and get microtransactioned to death. Puyo Puyo Tetris is the only other decent version we've got for awhile now, but this is a whole new level. I've would have happily paid $60 based on what I've played in the demo. Reward good game development by actually BUYING games. "I'll wait 'til it's $19.99/$9.99/on PS+ for $0.00 ensures we won't see another game like this, and only encourages lazy garbage like what Ubi put out.

Can anyone in the UK / Ireland find a physical copy?
That's sort of a bummer.
I get it, given the vibe of the game, but synchronous competitive Tetris is such great fun, to not have it feels a bit unfortunate.

Price seems to be the most common complaint when I browse twitter / reddit, which I can appreciate.
I know if I was my younger self, far less financially independent, I'd be frustrated.
Personally, super excited.

Just wish I could buy a physical copy instead of going digital.

It's a flashy Tetris, which I like. But I was hoping that it would also be a great VR game, and I have to say that the experience is marred by blur and severe jaggies on the blocks themselves, I feel like I have to strain my eyes to make our what's going on in some of the busier color designs, and the effects, while mostly rather pretty, sometimes make it hard to see what's happening and which blocks are coming up. I played the game for two hours yesterday, and I'm left with very mixed feelings about it. I'll try using a more zoomed-in view today, but if that doesn't help, this is not something I'm getting on day one, despite having looked forward to it for a long time.

HDR seems a little dim? And I'm on a Sony Z9D
I played it on my Samsung KS8000 and the HDR was incredible. Someone on here suggested changing in-game brightness, but I didn't alter it. I don't know why it didn't look great to you, but it could be that you don't have your tv's backlight set to maximum in HDR mode...? It should always be at max. in HDR, even when playing in a dim room (I was playing in a dim room, so maybe that had an effect on why it looked so amazing to me last night). I hope you find a good setting on your tv (check the rtings website for calibration tips) :)

Played this for a while. Surprisingly the visual effects aren't as distracting as they look while playing, at least not in the demo levels. Edit: never mind in marathon when it gets moving the visuals can interfere.

Maybe I'm crazy but I feel like it doesn't control as well as nes, gb or ds Tetris. Maybe the shape of the controller or some sort of input lag I dunno.

I'm interested in the full version but the price is steep. If amazon sells digital codes anyone up for buying me a copy in trade for my 3 month Netflix code that Sony sent me(assuming the codes are universal, I'm Canadian) and $20?

Edit 2: is there no local or online competitive multiplayer?

To be fair - chances are the demo is an older build as pre-order from within the demo downloads the game in full, it's not just an unlock, so performance/Pro support in VR etc. is probably not final.
But no - I didn't spot drops on Pro although I was hardly looking for them (but in VR they are usually more noticeable).

I much preferred playing this in 4K HDR than PSVR honestly. The VR mode was neat but that damn drifting is annoying.
Ok people's terminology is all over the place on internet (I've seen this word used to describe at least 3 completely different things) - when you say "drift", can you describe what you're actually talking about?

As far as preferences go - HDR pop on the right panel is great, and 2d mode hides the IQ problems somewhat better (they're still there to be clear, just not as noticeable). But the backgrounds and audio work better in VR, I can see myself playing both.

Drifting is when the screen moves to one side. Its true, I ended up facing my chair on the left side of the room. Its annoying and seems to be game specific. I have lots of games that don't drift.

PS Move on PS3 had the same issue, but the with the crosshair going places.
