F) Can't Decide
Literally every iteration has a miracle choice-pick from me.
Melee had f'ing Mewtwo. Back in 2001, when Pokemon was THE defacto franchise, seeing such a cool, powerful, mysterious, evil(?), and rare Pokemon as a playable character? Felt like a dream come true I didn't know I wanted. And this was BEFORE silly stuff like wishlists. Left my Gamecube on over night to unlock him!
Then Brawl brought out the big guns. Not only opening the can for 3rd-party crossovers with Snake and mf'ing SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, LONG-TIME RIVAL MASCOT TO NINTENDO... but also bringing the 3-in-1 cool-as-fuck Pokemon Trainer. AKA the protagonist Red stand-in AKA a playable Charizard / Squirtle. I still remember the morning of, waking up to that Dojo page, and being flabbergasted.
Wii U really brought out my fanboy wishes though. Y'know how we all make Christmas lists right? Hopeful that our dream roster gets selected by some miracle chance. Well, this round of newcomers really clinched it for me. We had Shulk with his kick-ass Monado from the rainfall RPG itself; Little Mac, the old school pink jumpsuit boxer with the moves that grooves; and Ryu, the original fighting game master bringing his cool voice and cooler special attacks. Those had all been characters from my fantasies -- nerdy ones, too, where I picture how the trailer plays out, complete with musical BG. And the cherry on top? MOTHER FUCKIN' CLOUD STRIFE. GAMEFAQS POLL COME TO LIFE.
But man oh man... Ultimate really wants to steal the show. SIMON BELMONT. RIDLEY. Characters I never ever ever ever thought would see the light of day! I almost want to give the award to this alone, but the reality is... we ain't done yet! DLC is still a'coming.
Truth be told, I've gotten pretty much everyone I've ever wanted throughout the years. I'm quite content with whatever new characters show up. No longer is it necessary to pine for a missing piece.
Of course, let's not forget the one that started it all: 64; and its legacy of bringing together my favorites. DK. Pikachu. Mario. And most of all, the Hero of Hyrule. The wielder of Evil's Bane. LINK. Just playing as Link, fighting Mario, was a thing of beauty. Playing as Fox out of the Arwing, or controlling Yoshi without Mario once again, or learning who Ness and Cpt. Falcon were proper. It was all so special, and really cemented a life-long love of the franchise.
