Once again I feel such a mixed, uh, feeling, about the stage decision
On one hand there are so many of them and they're all gorgeous and I've had fun playing on virtually all of them. I'm so glad to see them back and I only wish all of them could be here
On the other hand we are getting shortchanged out of a lot of cool stage concepts because the focus was put towards bringing them back.
Yeah that's how I feel as well. Everything they've done is amazing, but I'd be lying if I didn't feel a bit disappointed that contemporary stuff got left out as a result.
Maybe the Ultra Beasts will be spirits I guess
Seriously. On the website, one of the Spirits on the damn cover image of the Spirit page is Snake.
My big bro mained him in SF2 when we were kids so I have a long-standing disdain for Ken.
People have literally forgotten that Mewtwo and Lucas were trophies before they were announced for DLC back in Smash 4.
What's wrong with Ken? It's an obvious choice but it's a good one and his variances with Ryu seem worthwhile. Plus, I appreciate that I can now just play Street Fighter inside Smash Bros.
Something tells me that if the world of light thing is the only way to unlock characters that means it's going to be shorter than we think.

Yeah but Sakurai wouldn't show a spirit of an unconfirmed DLC character he plans to unveil in the future. Did anyone see a Piranha plant spirit the entire direct before Piranha plant was revealed?

and i feel real bad for DK, who lost his Returns level and lost out on a TF level (arguably for a second time). And Yoshi losing his Woolly World stage is lame.
Yeah, i want a real banner for my wall. The roster has become an all-encompassing tribute to the video games of my youth.
I even saw Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, King K.Rool and Yoshi, like...they're just putting every damn .png they can find
I think classic methods of unlocking characters will still be there. So Vs Matches and random little things like absorbing projectiles or whatever.

It's weird that we look to be starting with just Kirby then. I would have figured we'd start with the original 8 all being available from the beginning.
also Dark Pit gets his Power of Flight from Pandora, so Palutena getting Thanos'd shouldn't have brought him down
As far as Smash is concerned, it's the same thing. Snake's character model is basically Big Boss wearing Solid Snake's sneaking suit. There's also Young Samus and several others in the actual Spirits page.
Point I'm getting at is - there's spirits of playable characters and assist trophies already. A spirit existing doesn't mean the character is deconfirmed.

Hmm. I guess it could go either way but I wouldn't take this as a hard deconfirmation. I guess what changes things is whether the playable characters will have online icons.
Actually that page planetsmasher linked has me thinking, Eggman is there, I haven't seen any of the bosses' spirits so far, maybe Eggman isn't a boss.
Anyone compiled the new music reveals yet? obviously there's a few on the site like Kass' theme for instance.

Jungle Japes from Melee and Underground from Brawl are both back after not being in Smash 4 Wii U.
Those are the only two I paid attention to. Also Underground might come with Piranha Plant because it's in his profile video.

Verg is saying we are getting the Square-Enix character as DLC. Makes sense since we got Cloud as DLC, and Soul Calibur VI got 2B for theirs.

Well, I'm pretty happy with everything but there's one GLARING omission from "Ultimate:"

It does if Sakurai doesn't want to spoil potential character reveals. He hasn't shown spirits of unrevealed characters like Piranha Plant yet. I wager he wouldn't put a spirit of an unrevealed DLC char in pre announcement

Man, I'm such a Sakurai fanboy to the point of working on a Meteos mobile clone just out of admiration of his work and ideas, but I won't hold myself back when I say that his distaste of working on sequels is really showing this time around.
Dude has always been so meticulous with his references and representations. He has given Nintendo the cutest Kid Icarus redesign ever, a triple A status for Fire Emblem games, a kick-start into eSports before Splatoon and overall just the best system seller any videogame hardware has ever seen.
Fast-forward to Ultimate and you see him lacking consistency. Adding Ridley after saying he'd have his size misrepresented because fans probably harassed the heck out of him. But also adding whatever he feels because fuck it, here's another Mario character, this time one that's has literally NEVER been playable ever before. It just shows a lot of disdain on his part compared to the things we've seen in his past works. He's visibly not into it anymore and his previously wonderful creativity is suddenly working against it with some terrible, almost parody-like perspective at things.
I really hope the next Smash game is a complete reboot and specially one not directed by Sakurai anymore, for a fresher take at everything. I'll keep being a fan of him, hopefully getting to see new sick games from Sora Ltda that aren't necessarily linked to Nintendo IPs, but this is just not his best, at all, and it's disturbing to watch this much struggle.

I really doubt he knows any DLC characters. As far as I'm aware, people only started learning of Piranha Plant within the last day or two.

The one true injustice about all of this stuff isn't some character getting in, isn't trophies getting replaced by stickers, isn't any character not receiving particular changes the community wanted them to have.
It's that ROB still has no fucking stage. Everyone has a stage associated with their series, except ROB. There are even stages from series that don't have playable characters. But ROB has been getting the shaft once again - for the third time in the Smash franchise.

How do we play spirit mode ? Against who? Is it different than world of light SP mode?
If so then how does spirit mode work? Where do I choose the team to fight against and such?
