Feels like the new startwars aiming for more humans rather than stick to the multicultural races, a weird complain but I guess you are right since the few humans are white

Was gonna say.

Keep in mind that the banner of "people of color" also applies to those of East Asian descent.

Most of the animesque characters on the roster are East Asian, or meant to look the part stylistically. White people project whiteness onto them, but characters like Shulk and Corrin are not white.

That's def still a problem, though, since it means people of color can have a hard time identifying those characters as being POC. Thanks, white people.

Shulk has blonde hair and blue eyes. How would someone see him as anything but white?

In some ways, smash featuring 30 years worth of Video Game history highlights the lack of diversity in human characters.

It's a shame, and it's obviously not just Nintendo since so many 3rd parties are being added in.

Banjo is brown. Patience, OP.

Edit: Not going to edit my post into oblivion, but I honestly didn't mean any disrespect. Didn't know this was posted and called out by others before posting.

On topic, I agree with someone who said add Garrett, and what about Balrog from Street Fighter? Put him in.

Yeah Nintendo's lately been getting much better at having either characters of color or allowing to to customize your character. The latter has shown up in Smash (e.g. Splatoon inklings and IIRC Villager) but it'll take time before we see the likes of, say, Twintelle or even better, Marina in Smash. (Pearl can come too... I guess lol)

I mean this is more a reflection of a lack of black protagonists in general than on Smash. Or do you expect Smash to invent characters? Rodin and Dalsim are side chars and not worth a main pick just because of their skin colour imo.

This has been an industry-wide issue for decades and as long everyone including Nintendo steps it up you won't see that many black fighters in Smash.

The real scandal would be if there would be iconic Black or Brown video game characters that would fit to smash and that wouldn't be in.
Sadly there are not such characters, which tells a lot about the medium.

If we're including East Asian under the umbrella of representation we still only have three explicit examples, unless I'm mistaken - Ryu (from Japan), Pokemon Trainer (from Kanto, Pokemon Japan), and Corrin (from Hoshido, which is essentially Japan).

Everyone else is ambiguously Western, from either a European or American inspired setting.

Have you never seen an anime?
Isn't Shulk based off that German scientist?

Klaus or something?
