I've seen jokes about Piranha Plant being unknown, but I don't think that's the case.

He's kinda recognizable among some causals lol.

wut. wasn't one of the arguments for the leak precisely the fact that they tracked down the origin and it seemed plausible that they could be involved in making promotional stuff for nintendo

yeah man i can't believe anyone could fall for that blurry ass ESRB le-- oh
the ersb leak eventually got video evidence

It was an overly blurry screencap from a video where no one could nail down the origin but was positive that everything they wanted to hear about said origin supported it being real.

"Someone went through a lot of effort to do this" has never been proper evidence. People just wanted it to be real and that's okay but the claim that there was any evidence pointing toward it beyond "Wow someone drew things!" is false.
It wasn't just a blurry image, they created a new background, moved all the characters around (very difficult) creating new renders of the 7 fake new comers, new grinch renders on top of that, had access to high end printing equipment, other concidences lined up like being based off of some random 4chan post, Mac being cropped next to Isaac's vines, Growth item from Golden Sun appearing in a new trailer, etc etc.

This is why im thinking it might have been leak bait, a few professional artists on Reddit tried & ultimately failed for 10 hours to recreate the leak, but just moving the characters around alone was difficult enough, let alone everything else that leak had in it.

This is why i didn't want to believe insiders like yourself, it wasn't out of disrespect, it just seemed like too much work to be fake.

No, it was Bandai Namco, which people for some reason thought was making promotional materials for Smash.

Poor insiders, we should've believed them, instead we ruined their lives.
Stop being toxic dude. Trash heaps like you are what make the Smash community the filthiest collection of human garbage on planet earth. Fucking sickening.

EDIT: I thought this was pretty clearly a joke, I was just mocking how people are shitting on the Smash community on for believing the leak. I hope you understand I wasn't attacking you or anyone else Tribal_Cult

You know I might be in the minority but I was getting sick of trophies. I actually like the description more. I'd much much much MUCH rather have a collection of the official artworks and such ripped straight from the source rather than a ton of shody looking 3D models ripped straight from the source or created from the ground up.

I don't particularly like Kiddy Kong but it's nice seeing him again from that cover art. Love it!
The thing with official artwork is that all you need to do is google image search to see it all. Trophies were actual objects, you had your own collection room, and you could even mess around with them in 4's photo mode. And that's on top of the great descriptions. Spirits seem to have none of that (including the descriptions).

So they are considering Oil Panic and Samus's Gunship as "characters" in terms of Spirits Mode. They won't even make an effort to just use actual living beings and interesting characters in it, this is a full-on revival of Brawl's Stickers, which was one of the worst aspects of Subspace Emissary for me...

Unless you really think somehow Samus's Gunship is able to die and live the afterlife as a spirit while waiting to be revived by someone

Well since trophies were cut, spirits are the only way to represent non-living things in the game. I'd rather them be spirits than just not be represented entirely.

I had asked earlier in the thread and was told:

That's what I'm going off of. If this is incorrect, then that opens up the options for DLC characters a lot, despite them being Spirits at release. And as an aside, if being a Spirit doesn't rule out the character being a fighter, why didn't we see any of the main roster as Spirits in the reveal then?

E: Didn't read MoonGirard's post that clearly at first glance. If we really did see some of the main roster as Spirits as well, then that answers my question above!
Yup we see a Male WFT as a support spirit in the direct plus a younger Samus from other M and w/e the doctor K Rool is called on the site.

I don't think that's the case. The alleged leaker (and it's most likely that he was impersonated at this point) had worked for Marina (the company who put out a statement and did work with Bamco), but had since moved onto another company.

It is incredibly disingenuous to say that the leak was only "someone drew something on a piece of paper and took a blurry picture."

They tied the photo to a real person who is known to work for a real company that has major video games companies among its clients.
1) Super cool that a guy got doxxed for a fake.
2) You're leaving out all the details involved with this (the guy didn't work there for years, he was over 50 apparently sending Snapchat leaks of Smash Bros. to friends on discord, the company was Bandai Namco) that acted as evidence against it.

There's a difference between giving employees deliberately false information to weed out leakers, and surrupticiously posting a blurry photoshop framed as a print shop leak inexplicably tied to some French guy that never asked or wanted to be associated with it.

Like, come on, dude. This isn't a conspiracy. This was just some fake created by an internet rando.

We just saw it in the treehouse stream. Unfortunately, it is triforce slash.
Triforce Slash it was shown on the treehouse stream.

They played it in the Treehouse post-Direct stream - it's the triforce slash thing. I don't remember which game it was Link's Final Smash in, but it's that one.

Damn, I was hoping for something Majora's Mask related. Thanks.

bandai namco is involved with making the game (and not just by letting nintendo use their characters; they're actually involved in the game's development). is it really such a huge stretch that they could be involved with its promotion, as well? if you're not involved in the industry, it seems like a reasonable assumption to make.

it was fake, fine. even you might have believed it if you didn't have insider info. there's no need to be a smug dick about it.

For real though, I have no idea how anyone stayed on teamreal until the end. Unless they just abandoned Smash threads after it came out.

Genuine question: what was impressive about it? The art might as well have been smudges. You don't have to be well-versed in Photoshop to use content aware. People were convinced that Squirtle being moved was this gargantuan effort.

This wasn't "Shulk lined up with Little Mac's head!" level of proof against, in this case there was almost nothing for it.

To me? The amount of new art done for a simple fake, the background, the placing on the mural, etc. It genuinely seems like the person knew it would cause a shite storm so it was posted when we were in the time of smash lull. I think it had very impressive detail too but I NEVER believed it myself because of all the newcomers on it. It took lots of effort to make a leak like this and I genuinely want to know the thought process of it even though it's fake.

The negativity in these threads always astounds me. How do people not learn to stay emotionally detached from leaks? Piranha Plant looks awesomely fun.

The story mode seems to have some budget to it, so I might even give that a play. 75 fighters + dlc. I'll miss character-specific break the targets, but with 75, I can see why.

The fact that the two characters everyone was absolutely sure would be DLC were deconfirmed was kinda refreshing.

I give credit to the Golden Sun fans for keeping hope and loving their games but like....y'all gotta know that franchise is barely at Assist Trophy level at this point in time.

The original Snapchat didn't feature that workplace (or any workplace) and he was still working for a promotional company even till this day.

The sole thing that debunked the leak was this Nintendo Direct.

He was just talking about the in-story reason why they're stuck as JPEGs.

Was that all it was? Hm... Well I'm definitely not against that idea, leaves open the gate for many more DLC characters that way!

Yup we see a Male WFT as a support spirit in the direct plus a younger Samus from other M and w/e the doctor K Rool is called on the site.

Very cool! Would be neat to Play as a character and use multiple variants of that characters' spirit to bolster their stats... Though that would be confusing. How many Spirit variants of a character actually exist?
