If I play it without seasons, I cant get any of the good stuff right? Or will I have access to past legendaries?

Great faq and ot Tu101uk. Very informative.

Lol thats bait.

I played some local wireless co-op at a bar with folks at a Seatte ERA meetup last night. Syncing up our games was a cinch across multiple Switch consoles, none of which were connected to the Internet. And waggling a Joy-Con to dodge-roll is a serviceable option, though using the right stick is certainly easier and more consistently responsive. (Waggling the Pro Controller, OTOH, does *not* function as a dodge-roll.)

Otherwise, it's the console port of Diablo III you know and love--which is a good thing. Looks awesome in portable mode.

Thanks for the impressions.

Very promising.

What are the sets for this season if I may ask?
  • Barbarian – Wrath of the Wastes
  • Crusader – Roland's Legacy
  • Demon Hunter – Unhallowed Essence
  • Monk – Raiment of a Thousand Storms
  • Necromancer – Bones of Rathma
  • Witch Doctor – Helltooth Harness
  • Wizard – Tal Rasha's Elements

Think I might go physical with this. Switch games hold up their value very well, so if I don't end up playing this as much as I anticipate then I'll sell on. I've still got BotW to start (!).

I had it for the PS4 ages ago, and really enjoyed it but I got to the end of the story and didn't do much other than that. I know I barely scratched the surface.

As a player that will predominantly play in short bursts at night, solo, what are the easiest classes in terms of both simplified layouts (for if I don't play for a long time), and survivability (as I won't be playing any form of coop)

Purchased this on the eshop on Australia and midnight just ticked over, yet I still can't play =[

Wonder if they are waiting until after the direct to update the eshop for some reason

Jumping in for the 3rd time (PC and PS3) and cannot be more excited. I haven't played anything beyond the Crusader expansion so I'm looking forward to all the new end-game content.

Class is going to be a hard choice, Barbarian and Crusader were the 2 characters I played the most, dabbled a bit with Wizard and Monk but never played Demon Hunter, Necro or Witch Doctor.

I tend to play sword and board classes and I really enjoyed the Crusader but tempted to give Monk another go or maybe Demon Hunter. We shall see, I think I'll be sinking the most total hours into this version as the portability of it will mean soooo much mindless playing while watching TV w/ the wife.

So how does the portable mode work? Can you play offline without a problem? I remember on PC each time you disconnected it would just kick you out of the game.

It's in the FAQ (although I have elaborated on it further) but yes, the console versions have always had offline mode - it's one of the reasons why some prefer the console versions to the PC game. You can even take your offline characters online later on.

If you're doing seasons however, you need to be online.

I don't have my Switch on me to confirm... Is this for sure dropping at midnight local time? I'll need to explain why I'm crying myself to sleep tonight if it doesn't.

I know that for UK and Ireland it'll be midnight unlock, according to the Nintendo website. For other regions, I dunno if they have set times for download unlocks.

I've edited the OT info so it's less confusing.

Anyone have any info on loading times? I only go digital on my Switch, but I know that loading times are typically improved a couple seconds using internal storage instead of the SD card. Need to determine if I should make room on internal storage or just stick with SD.

Apologies if it's been mentioned before but did they ever confirm anything about the stash upgrades? Didn't absolutely need them per se on the PC version but was that extra bit of motivation to reach that deeper part of the season journey each time.

Essentially nice to have but won't lose sleep if they don't.

Yeah they've never offered stash upgrades as a season reward for consoles sadly, so hopefully you're not much of a hoarder... :S

Hate to rehash the amiibo argument but it's a real shame that effect is so dang nice >.< Just no space or desire for stuff like that

Man, this would be a great game to play on the go. A little jealous of you Switch owners!

Are any of the classes particularly annoying to play with a controller?
From my experience with the PS3/PS4 versions, the main issue is anything that requires ground targeting because it's obviously MUCH slower to target effectively without a mouse. I played Barbarian mostly and it's super satisfying with a controller.

And just like that, it's over. Looked very good. I did notice how the characters looked a little... transparent... as noted in some of the reviews. A very small thing but easy to accept to get the performance we just saw.

some information for people starting to play tomorrow, and play in handheld mode:
turn the gamma up to around 3/4 of the bar. especially if you play in a well lit room. it will make a huge difference. if you are playing in a dark room, leave it in the middle.

By the way, if you are doing couch co-op with friends and they don't have any characters don't worry, because Diablo 3 has an Apprentice Mode that automatically scales the stats for any lower level characters to that of the highest level character in the group. That way, your friends can still participate in killing the hellish horde without you waiting for them to level up from scratch. They get drops and EXP scaled to their level, while you can still play without lowering the difficulty.

So I haven't played since vanilla...is it worth going through the story mode any more or just jump straight into Adventure Mode?

For me, I'd go right in to Adventure Mode but I did the multiple runs through way back at release and in the early days of seasons. Maybe once through the story for the Act V content? It's nothing special but introduces another handful of bosses

My copy arrived today. Going to start a Necromancer season 15 character soon but GB's extra life stream is taking my full attention at the moment.

The main game core story is really bad. Like really bad. 80s-Saturday-morning-cartoons bad. Maybe some of the optional dialog is ok? I took in the story only once, right when the game first launched. There's neat stuff to be explored in the Diablo universe, but they totally missed the mark imo.

I could be totally misremembering, but Diablo 2's story was more minimalist (probably due to games being smaller back then); it had more of a "tell, but don't show" sort of vibe where your mind would fill in the details & engage with the mystery of what wasn't there. One of the best lines that stuck with me was when you fight Diablo in 2 he growls, "Not even death can save you from me," as a sort of nod that when you die you wind up back in Hell and he's still after your ass. That's really effective writing, at least it was at the time. 3 is the polar opposite, "show everything and leave nothing up to the imagination". Like in Act 3 when the 'Genius Demon Tactician General Azmodan' literally tells you every step of his SECRET DIABOLICAL PLAN TO DESTROY YOU PUNY NEPHALEM. Ugh.

HOWEVER, everything else about the game is incredible! I've played it on and off since launch on PC, then 360, then PS4, and I'm considering it on Switch. It's a great game.

tl;dr For max fun, play the story to about level 15-20, then go to Adventure Mode. The game is about smashing screens of mobs, watching all the numbers go up, and that sweet sweet dopamine release when a legendary item hits the ground. The best and most fun way to do all that is Adventure Mode. Killing stuff in Adventure is really slow until that lvl 15-20 mark, so the story quest exp is the fastest way to get there.
