Honestly, the IQ in this in VR is a bit shit (playing on standard PS4)? It feels like a first gen VR title back where devs weren't using all the resolution tricks they could, and after playing incredibly sharp stuff like Astro Bot, it feels at odds with the level of visual quality I'm used to.

It's still a mad trip, but the high price was putting me off before, and it doesn't feel quite up to the level I'd want to justify paying that.

Oh man, the demo broke my heart and has put me in a very depressing mood. :(

I was so exited for this game and then I finally tested it today in VR and now I won't buy it anymore cause everything on it was disappointing.

It's very blurry and low res for some mysterious reason. I was hoping it has a fantastic IQ because, it's just Tetris and has effects but nothing a PS4 Pro couldn't handle. When I compare it to something like Bound which has the cleanest PSVR IQ I've ever seen, there are worlds between this.
On top, the effects are also very dull and blurry and low res and all together just feels boring in VR, just incredibly boring. I think out of everything I ever played so far, this has to be one of the least impressive VR games I've ever played. It's sad, I really wanted to love it.

I don't own PSVR so I can't see myself paying the $53 CND that they're asking, I wasn't even into all the music in the demo's journey mode.

Also having to "zoom in" on the field to get a sensible view was really stupid and weird, theres not that much going on to want to focus on besides playing the game.

It's amazing that they've released so many other great Tetris titles like Puyo Puyo Tetris where they're at least trying new things with the formula, somet of the things don't work but there were neat new things there, but here it's the same old game with a bullet time stacking tetrises mode.

Yikes, I was semi-considering getting a PSVR just for this game since I love Miz games so much, but I guess I'll just stick with TV mode.

There are way more modes in this game than there are in Puyo Puyo Tetris.

So if i download the demo now I get to keep the demo forever?

Or do they mean the demo will only be playable for abit, then can't play it anymore?

That VR IQ is a bit depressing to hear, I wish it was coming out on PC :(
(instead it sounds like I'll be double dipping when the assumed exclusivity window expires)

Definitely not the case for PS4 Pro. Looked clean to me in PSVR, and the impact of the music through headphones, combined with so much peripheral visual intensity, put me into freakin' orbit. My guess is that it's pushing a lot of particle effects in non-optimal ways, which is leading to a resolution tank on standard PS4.

I'm bowled over by how good this game feels to play. The "adventurous" mode that's unlocked is a mind-fuck, as well, in all of the good ways. So so so hyped.

Oh man, some of these impressions are a downer. I'll have to try it tonight and see what my experience is.

I did the digital preorder for the game because of the discount, but if I decide it's not worth it, is it possible to get a refund? I've never tried to for something.

Yeah, I mean there are for sure a lot of other people with way more positive words about it and I can see others liking it, but I would still say that this is not a game for that you should buy a whole VR set. There are a lot of other fantastic titles that will blow you away on PSVR, but this wouldn't be one of them and shouldn't be the first one. You are so focused on the Tetris field that you barely even recognize that you are in VR and then it's technically pretty mediocre. Nice to have if you have one or want to get one in general, but a VR for this alone would be a bad idea.

Yeah, and I think everyone who has PSVR owes it to themselves to grab the demo and see how it strikes them. Me, I'm a Tetris *and* Lumines fiend, and this already exceeds my high expectations. I tested this at E3 and had a bit of a "does this REALLY need to be in VR" nay-say thought in the back of my mind. That's gone now.

I have a pro and the super sampling mode activated, it is pretty low Rez in comparison to a lot of other games, don't know what you see here.
Play the Astro Bot demo, play the Bound Demo and then we can talk again.

And I barely noticed the 3D sound to be honest.

I've got all of those games and appreciate their different visual/aliasing approaches. Different strokes for different folks. Currently, I appreciate the Tetris Effect visual design focusing on bold tetrad pieces and a whirlwind of peripheral effects, and I'm not too hung up on any screen door effect (this from someone who rocks a Vive Pro), but my tune may change once the final game shows up and I play through more boards.

Some people already have some pretty long times on endless mode. I saw someone who had played just under 4 hours of one game.

Dont have a PSVR so I dunno how it really looks, but sometimes supersampling mode adds a little blurriness.

Game is amazing. Best music/sound design I have heard in ages and visual presentation is fantastic. Spent 3 hours playing this morning. I will say that I found playing in VR mode underwhelming as it is too blurry and low rez ( I'm on a Pro too) for my tastes along with the effects being distracting to the core gameplay. I started in VR but after about 45 minutes switched to 2D and found everything impressed me much more. Can already tell this is a 10/10 game for me but that I will be sticking to 2D for the most part, which is surprising to me as I love VR.

I just sold my PS4 and Tetris Effect was my most anticipated video game. Does Sony have exclusivity-rights to this game?

I hope everyone who's able to play it now is having one hell of a good time btw. :)

I'll see what I make of it later when I try it, but VR support was what piqued my interest to begin with. If that's underwhelming, I don't know if I'll keep the preorder.

I never crank in-game brightness up to max with HDR, but HDR at in-game Brightness 10 with this game in particular looks absolutely incredible - almost like it's made for it. If your TV is capable of a lot of nits for HDR, you're in for a major treat.

I've found that, almost always, VR demos are never optimized for Pro. Astro Bot was the same way on my Pro when I played the demo, and when I bought the finished game: it was like a night and day difference in terms of clarity. Same thing happened with Resident Evil 7 for me, as well.

Looks amazing. Skipping the demo cause I don't wanna play it early and spoil my day 1 "playthrough", but your impressions certainly haven't deflated the hype.

This actually might steal some GotY awards, calling it now. In fact I'm going to claim right here and now that Giant Bomb will see the light and make this their GotY 2018. Yes, over RDR2. I have complete faith.

I just played the demo and this is the most fun I've ever had with Tetris. The graphics are so good and when the controller starts to rumble to the beat of the music and the blocks start to change color it's amazing. I really wish I had a PSVR for this one.

To put it simply, this is just magic.

The people complaining about the price point for "another Tetris" was maddening.

Mizuguchi continues to be one of the best we've seen.

The IQ is a bit rough on the pro as well.

Overall it's just what i expected and will probably wait for a discount.

PS: They changed the lyrics of "pharaoh's code" for some reason.

I've been playing for the last hour in VR on a Pro and yes, as others have said, it's blurry, which is very disappointing. I guess I was thinking their last game Rez: Infinite was crystal sharp but this is a new game and that was a 15 year old port. Hopefully, the problem is just with the demo and the real game looks better, or there will be a Pro patch.

I'd be VERY interested to hear someone with the games final commercial code compare it to this demo on the matter of VR IQ, whenever that may be possible.

I've played trade show demos and PSN demos of PSVR stuff that were blurry/low res only for the final release to be a lot sharper. Could be a combination of compressing things too much to acheive a nice small demo download size to running off of old Unity/Unreal/etc engine/compiler versions so as to not break things while the retail version is published from an all updated dev tool.

It'll honestly be pretty surprising and disappointing to me if the final game does just have naff IQ because its not pushing PSVR and the PS4 much at all.

Is the game good ? Yes

Is the vr slightly disappointing ? Maybe but while playing you wont notice it.

Is the game bad because of it? Of course not.

I feel the final game will have better IQ.

Question about journey mode, is what we see what we get in the demo? Or will there be more bubbles/areas along the pathway?

Pretty sure that's it for Journey. Devs have said there are a lot of secrets, though.

Really disappointed. Not feeling the music, the effects actually hinder the gameplay at least in the fire level. It's so distracting especially in a heated scenario where the blocks almost reach the top. Yeah not buying this for the asking price.
