Incineroar, Ken (Ryu echo fighter), and Piranha Plant (DLC) announced as new Smash Bros. characters

Spring Man always screamed assist trophy to me. His AT moveset just proves my vision of how limited he would be.
I guess the 108 stages thing correlates with the current DLC plans.
So... anybody got a list of characters that are effectively "deconfirmed" based off of assist trophies, spirits, and Mii costumes? I saw Shantae as a spirit and was surprised she was even acknowledged. Also, Ray MKIII being a Mii costume was kind of disappointing, but at least Custom Robo wasn't forgotten. It even got a few Spirits.
By the way, does anyone else expect DLC to be all or mostly 3rd parties? Sora, Dante (if that DMC5 leaker is right), and Banjo-Kazooie seem like prime candidates.

Pretty much. It's funny because talk of the roster dies down after the game releases outside of the DLC, but when you are actually playing the game and having a blast. The madness of the roster speculation is such a distant memory.
Gosh darn rumors but ehh, Incineroar model looks dope and both him and Ken looks great. Love melee type characters so I'll try them out and as for Piranha Plant, I was kinda bleh on him but he actually looks to have a fun moveset. I play most of Smash's weird roster like Duck Hunt Dog, ROB and Wii Fit Trainer so I'll probably like him too when I play him.
I have wanted a Mario enemy as a Smash fighter for a long time (woulda expected a Goomba first) so I'm very happy with a Pirahna Plant getting in.

Just about the only interesting thing Incineroar is doing is his side special, the rest is pretty bog standard stuff that's been done before. Guy's even got a counter (that works slightly differently!).
I think characters being spirits means nothing as far as DLC. Characters that were trophies in Smash For were DLC in that game. The spirits are literally just the original artwork of a character. I don't see how that would stop them from being a fighter eventually.

Trophies are just that, trophies. hundreds and hundreds of statues that have neat little descriptions on them you can rotate and zoom in on them etc.

the leak madness definitely needs to be a lesson to the smash community, though: there are people who enjoy making the fakes even more than we enjoy coked-up roster speculation. assume literally all leaks are fake until the game is out.

Piranha Plant might be one of my favorite newcomers ever, alongside Wii Fit Trainer. I fucking LOVE wtf characters.
Yeah the only thing that should deconfirm a dlc character is them being an assist trophy so isaac, spring man, shadow, etc are all dead.
Spring Man and Rex btfo by the way. Hopefully DLC is as interesting as the rest of the non-echo roster outside of Incineroar were.
The good thing about piranha plant is that we'll never get a Smash announcement as disappointing as that ever again, so it sets a precedence.
But yeah it's pretty disappointing they left Incineroar and Ken for last, I like both a lot but they're fairly lowkey compared to stuff like Ridley, K. Rool and Simon/Richter. IMO they should have saved some of those to go out with a bang instead, but it is what it is.

I don't think Rex is out for the count yet, several fighters also had mii costumes in Smash 4.

Yeah, but the Mii costumes didn't preclude them from getting in Smash Ultimate.
Where there any characters that went from Mii costume to DLC character in the same game?
I'm so disappointed they chose Guile over Chun-Li, the first lady of fighting games. Does all Guile do is turtle? C'mon, man...

Piranha Plant legit made the direct better. I'm not even mad. (I don't really have a reason to be when all my most wanted chars entered in Sm4sh.) I feel bad for Golden Sun fans. They cut him as an assist trophy and brought him back as an assist trophy.
Sakurai said Xenoblade 2 started development after the roster was planned, and I assume that includes DLC since he showed Rex's costume right after the announcement. Where was Geno seen as a spirit?
That was my favorite costume shown. I like how the giant robot set was obscured by a giant Mii.
I knew Sakurai would nail Incineroar moveset - he looks absolutely amazing. After Simon it seems to be so far the most fun newcomer.
Piranha Plant is the biggest WTF character in the franchise so far. Even G&W, Wii Fit Trainer and R.O.B made sense looking in hindsight. There are probably at least 10 characters from the Mario Franchise which could be seen as more deserving than Piranha Plant - the fact he was chosen is incredible.
Not so happy with ARMS though - not only does the franchise tick all the boxes (Character design, music, Moveset potential, stages) I feel their absence from Smash might hinder the future the franchise - we all know how Smash plays a role in increasing character popularity.
