Back in the late 90s and early 2000s fansites were huge before your wikis and your resetera you would find a fansite to read up and discuss your favourite game.Nowadays with discord YouTube, twitter, wikis and your tumblrs I don't really see or hear about fansites anymore.

Serebii is the last indepently owned site for a single franchise I can think of, Joe the creator is a resetera poster and well its still a excellent resource.

I also remember a old fire emblem one that was still around something garden or forest?

Is there any others that are still around for games or any new that have popped up that you enjoy? I really miss that part of Fandom.

Serene's Forest for Fire Emblem.

And yeah, Joe is a good guy and his site is a tremendous resource.

Shenmue Dojo. I remember checking in with it every couple of months over a decade ago, and it's still going strong.

Does smashboards count for Smash Bros? I know it's a forum but it's also a news site with a huge community.

I kind of miss those days! I had so many bookmarks!

I actually ran a small fansite for Ultima IX way back in the day. I accidentally broke the news that there was no female PC(a question they had been avoiding since the game was announced) - I had submitted a list of questions to Bob White and he skipped several of them and then answered Yes to the final one... I optimistically assumed he was answering yes to all of them... He was not, and had meant it to be a no comment and had to send a correction which I then posted. People were mad.

Nova Crystallis / Lifestream.net for Final Fantasy
Endless History for Nihon Falcom (well it's down at this moment)

Joe could update his site to a more modern design on one of these days, though :p

Pokémon has multiple websites internationally actually. The german Pokéwiki for example is what I use.

Don't forget Final Fantasy union. They branched out to YouTube and have some great stuff.

Reddit, Discord and Facebook really killed fansites. Wikis too. However now everyone scrambles to do wikis and there are multiple of the same subject and they seldom give the information level that fansites used to do and only get activity due to Google prioritising wikis as if they're more reliable. News sites have also taken to doing guides which also takes away from fansites need to exist

Discord killed chatrooms
Reddit killed most dedicated forums
Facebook killed both

As I've been saying lately when discussing the upcoming Serebii visual overhaul, current layout trends have shifted to be how the Internet is. There are no big data sites any more and so navigation for sites which aren't blogs is not an easy thing when plotting for mobile etc. so the mobile revolution of the internet has hit dedicated fansites somewhat as well.

I maintain Serebii will be the last outpost of what was great about old gaming sites. The line has to be drawn here. This far and no further!

:P

Thank you for your kind words :)
