The Switch sold 24,07m units of software last quarter(only games with a retail presence are counted), a big number that will make Nintendo smash its software forecast for the fiscal year (100m). These sales seem to be coming from a lot of different games, so, in anticipation of the big quarter ahead us, I thought it could be a good time to sum up Switch's biggest performers.

Thanks to Nintendo financial reports since Switch's launch, we are able to give an estimate of the number of games that sold over 1m on Switch. They always mention the number of games (with a retail presence) that sold over 1m, but for the names we'll need to do, sometimes, a little bit of speculation.

Confirmed Million-sellers (15) :

- Super Mario Odyssey
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Zelda : BotW
- Splatoon 2
- Mario + Rabbids : Kingdom Battle (Ubisoft)
- ARMS
- 1-2 Switch
- Mario Tennis Aces
- Kirby Star Allies
- Donkey Kong Country : Tropical Freeze
- Xenoblade Chronicles 2
- Super Mario Party
- Pokkén
- Octopath Traveler (Square Enix)
- Stardew Valley (Chucklefish)

2 million-sellers (confirmed) during FY2017 (April 17-March 18) to choose among :

- Rocket League (Psyonix) ?
- Skyrim (Bethesda) ?
- FIFA 18 (EA Sports) ?
- other ?

2 million-sellers (confirmed) during the 2 first quarters of FY2018 (April 18-Sep. 18) to choose among :

- Minecraft (Microsoft) ?
- Crash Bandicoot (Activision) ?
- other ?

List is not exhaustive. There are games that could have sold 1m across multiple fiscal years (not confirmed/educated guess) :

- Sonic Mania (SEGA)
- Super Bomberman R (Konami) (~1m, months ago)
- FIFA 18 (EA)
- Monster Hunter GU/XX (Capcom)
- Snipperclips (Nintendo)
-...

I could update this list in the future, but for now it is interesting to see that Nintendo software is stronger than ever and a lot of 3rd party games in different genres are having great sales too.

Feel free to correct me if I missed something.

Do we have complete data on digital only titles? since their financials exclude digital sales and digital only games right?

Their financials should include digital sales. They don't include it with trackers like NPD and Media Create though.
Their financials only include digital sales of retail games. Digital-only games are not included in total sales figures, nor mentioned if they break a million.

So switch can reaally sell software. How mant million sellers wii had?

63 according to this website :
https://m.ranker.com/list/the-best-selling-wii-games/r20x

Bah it's just speculation

Numbers are confirmed (by Nintendo) and for 15 of these games the names are too.

Some of the speculated games are pretty much confirmed (Minecraft, Rocket League..) but without PR I cannot put them on the confirmed list.

However Crash seems the likeliest candidate for the 3rd party game that sold 1m between April 18 and September 18. Do you have any other suggestion ?
I don't really remember what other releases happened in that timeframe, but do we have even the numbers to think that for Crash? It didn't seem to rank so high in charts and it had even help from the XONE SKU.

Couldn't Octopath be counted as 3rd party considering it was published by SE in Japan?

According to Nintendo, 3 3rd party games sold 1m+ this FY. I already put Octopath in the confirmed list so there is 2 spots left.

Chris1964 seems to agree that Minecraft and Crash are the two likeliest candidate. Crash came out in June and showed great legs until now. There is little doubt imo, despite the lack of Asian sales.

IIRC it's actually kind of unclear which titles are counted. I believe at one point there were more games SKUs being reported in their financials as being counted for this number than there were retail games available.

I think it was speculated that any game which has a physical release officially and publicly planned, even if it's not yet out, counts towards their software total.

Fire Emblem Warriors is probably over a million by now. Snipperclips might be there too.

As for 3rd parties, Skyrim, Fifa and Bomberman seem like the most likely candidates.

No Bayonetta makes me sad.

List isn't exhaustive.

Bayo is difficult to track especially since it released at the very end of a fiscal year. We just know that it sold through ~400k in its first 9 weeks on the market meaning that shipment could be quite high by now (but probably not enough to reach 1m tho).

Bayo 3 complete reveal + release could push it over the 1m mark.

Wow totally skimmed right over that. My bad.

No problem ;)

I'm willing to bet Skyrim is at 1 million, or at least very close. I think Dark Souls might get there too. FEW has to be close as well.

FEW is a pain to track because KT doesn't distinguish between the Switch and New 3DS versions. I would guess the Switch version is over 1million, but we'll probably never really know.

Yes we know that Fire Emblem Warriors sold 1m in its first fiscal year (Switch + 3DS).

http://www.siliconera.com/2018/04/2...nioh-reaches-1-9-million-worldwide-shipments/

We'll need KT to really know, but it is safe to assume that it'll eventually cross it.

How did I know I would open the thread and there wouldn't be confirmed games from third parties.

Except there is ? 3-4 by name (depending on if you are counting Bomberman) + 4 others at least (according to Nintendo).

Do we know what the highest digital/indie performers are?

According to Nintendo, in March 2018 :
  • Golf Story
  • Steamworld Dig 2
  • Stardew Valley (1m+)
  • Enter the Gungeon
  • Kamiko (200k+)
  • Fast RMX
  • Overcooked Special Edition (500k+)
  • NBA Playgrounds
  • Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (370k+)
  • Celeste

Rocket League and Snipperclips are not considered Nindies. Minecraft is probably the biggest digital performer of the platform.

Dead Cells could possibly be the one million seller not recognisec from the last quarter. It's either that or Crash. Not much else to choose from in the quarter.

Devs mentioned they were uncertain which version sold the most - Steam or Switch. Steamversion is over 1M according to steamspy so at the very least, Switch version has done very well.

I'm sure Hollow Knight is a million seller at this point, but no physical version yet so not counting that.
