Did anyone else feel very wistful after finishing this? Seeing old faces and hearing familiar tunes really brought back some intense emotions for me I felt when playing the first game. But it's the same kind of melancholy that makes me feel rather morose, in a way. Sign of a good game...but one that leaves a bit of a chasm afterwards.

Holy shit.

I'll save most of my thoughts and reactions for later, but being surprised by this demo outta nowhere this morning was a special treat considering it's my day off. I'm an over-the-top crazy fan of Undertale and can say this new demo blew me away to the same degree as the one for the previous game. The new systems already give the impression that the narrative and gameplay can work together again, but in totally different ways. I can't wait to see what's going to happen later on. Improvements all around. And the music is fucking sick, of course.

Don't wait, everybody. Play this now.

Holy shit, just finished it and the ending blew my mind. Are there multiple? Because mine was extremely menacing.

Welp,

I got the soul ripping ending that implies Chara at the end in some form. Toby's got my attention now. Also I think Suzie is gonna become pretty popular soon. Just a gut feeling I have.

Yes. It's an underlying theme in this game.

Also, something interesting I found on Reddit, apparently it changes files in Undertale as well?!
  • Installing it modifies your original Undertale install if it's in the default directory to check which ending you got but adds even more stuff in a new encryption format
  • Has trigger to check if you have a tainted genocide run save present
  • 27 new songs in the OST
  • Checks date and time on boot
:O

Can you link the reddit thread?

I hope there isn't a super important save file thing. My Undertale save is on an old PC it would be a pain to get it off of.

Right now we think there is only one ending. That could very well change though. But, I personally think having only one ending makes sense with the whole "your choices don't matter" theme the game seems to be pushing.

Okay, thanks. I'd bet that will change as it goes on though. We shall see.

Do you guys think something will change in game tomorrow?

Toby would be the kind of person to do that...

Ralsei is way too open about videogame stuff, like saying "Susie missed the tutorial"... plus there being Asriel AND Ralsei is weird... I dont know what to make of it

So I recently played through the game on Switch (did the pacifist run), and I'd like to check this out but it's only on PC. I do have a copy of the game for macOS but I haven't touched it at all, so can I still download Deltarune and play it without having a completed game save for Undertale on my computer? I'm not sure if it's something that's supposed to interact with your Undertale save in some way or not.

The battle screens remind me a lot of Mario and Luigi despite being just the old battle system with a new coat of paint lol

The theme of this game is really what happens in the first 5 mins.

The ability to make choices and affect stuffs is removed from you, this time it won't be pacifist/genocide at all

I'm still amazed how Toby just released this like that, for free, this man is crazy.
Also I expect tons of Toby trolling in the near future, haha.

A completed save game changes some minor dialogue but you don't need one. It's pretty much the same either way.

If you completed undertale dont worry, just play it.

I thought it was fine but not super special.
It feels like the logical continuation of Undertale,
was kinda expecting a twist or something especially after you are being told "HEY MAYBE IF YOU DON'T KILL PEOPLE YOU'LL GET THE GOOD ENDING." Felt like an obvious set-up for a "No, actually you did bad the whole" ending or something, I dunno.
I'm sure there's more to come in the full (?) release though.
It was fun but it didn't blow my mind.

What's up with this installer? Feels like I'm getting a virus.

Thoughts about the main character after finishing the game
after returning to the overworld some if the conversations with other npcs paints a really dark picture about kris, before we take control they are described as being a silent creepy kid who seemingly bullies the raindeer girl next door.
I'm really intrigued to see how this game continues.

If you want, you can download save files of points anywhere in the pacifist or genocide runs of Undertale right here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Undertale/comments/3szvui/my_undertale_save_files/

All you need to do is replace a few files and edit out the character name to whoever you choose it to be.
Whoa nice! Would I have to play Deltarune again so that it does the altering to the game files?

Yeah, I definitely got that vibe too. But the ending bit made it seem like Kris got possessed right then and there. Maybe Chara had been influencing Kris or something and then finally took over. That or Kris is just a bit of a jerk.

I almost wonder if the similarities to a fan series are indirectly intentional, in a way. Like Toby is doing some kind of commentary on fandoms that create fan-fiction AUs for their favorite series. You literally have the Undertale characters in a "real world" with drama and actual jobs and a high school setting where the protagonist is special and late for class, as well as a part where the protagonists fall into a video game fantasy world and become heroes.

Was there anyway of getting into that door in the bottom of town? Is that what I needed the key bits for?

Bring on the next one!
