Is that a thing that actually happened here? I keep seeing people talk about this but it seems like this has been a thing on Twitter not here.

Look whether or not they should have told us more info (and of course they fucking shouldn't; it could jeopardize their own careers), the fact remains that they were subject to undue, volatile harassment.
I will keep saying Shadow is a hard lock, so even though I'm technically betraying trust nobody would think twice.
I mean there were a bunch of people questioning the legitimacy of their insider-ness but I don't recall anyone being harassed or threatened.
No? It's not their job to give their sources away. It's the people claiming something is real that need to give proof for it being real.
AGAIN, he was doing the community a favor just sharing what he knew without spoiling things. That people take personal offense to this is crazy.

It happened on ERA. The original thread had plenty of unpleasantness and harassment towards people saying the banner wasn't real. Demands to know sources and other toxic behaviour.
Not gonna lie, I often feel bad whenever I speculate about a Square Enix rep because a lot of us drew the conclusion based on some of your posts back in August, and due to the fact that you partake every once in a while in discussions there's always a lingering sense that I'm kind of piling on a lot of undue pressure during discourse.
I hope you'll find it in you to partake a bit more casually once the proverbial dust settles. I like your posts, and I'm sorry that you and everyone else privy to info here have had to deal with a brunt of harassment. You deserve better than that, especially over a video game which is supposed to be a joyful celebration above all else.

I'm not really talking about the harassment aspect of it, rather the holier than thou attitude insiders had about this situation.
Just know many of us here appreciate the work you do. It's regretful the Grinch fiasco wasn't all in good fun like it should've been.

If you are going to be an "insider", then spill what you have and deal w/ what may come but don't carrot stick everyone around on some "I know something but won't say" shit. That annoys people because you are ,intentionally or not, lording this info over people's heads...no one likes that.
But also don;t be an asshole to said "insider" even if they are wrong...its just games at the end of the day.
Basically be better to each other and all of this could be a lot more fun rather than the weird antagonistic shit it has been.

They were never coming off that way. That's how you want to read it because that fits your narrative, but they were just trying to be helpful and point out that the banner is fake.
And what did it hurt, really? The Direct is tomorrow, the final revels will be made. If you went in at 100% Full Hype Thrusters thinking the banner was holy scripture and it turned out complete bunk, how would you react? Do you think you'd handle it well? Because it sure sounds like you were setting yourself up for a meltdown.
I don't know how they can be holier than over receiving harassment.
All they did was tell us the banner was fake. Yes they weren't in a position to prove it, but the proper response to that should have been "that's fine but I'll continue believing the leak until we get confirmation."
God I'm remembering last week when I was arguing with Serebii because I was flabbergasted that insiders could actually receive harassment over this.
Yeah I don't understand how some people got that from anything. All they ever said was that something was fake. It's not like people were spouting out their credentials.
I think the best thing to do is random posts to 4chan. If people don't believe it then fuckem. The only reason to do otherwise is if you just never want to go to 4chan because it's bad, or if you want credit for the leak or some bs. You can also show photos, being able to say you know something and nothing more is worthless.

I think people like Emily and the legendary papa geno handled things well. Mystic kept leaking stuff and Liam was rude for no particular reason. Then there is Verg who can be rude as well

I will say though I'm not looking forward to when we're all in good moods over the Direct regardless of what is shown, and someone sticks their head in again to try to make everyone feel bad about believing in the Grinch leak. It's bound to happen but it will be annoying.
MysticDistance tried being transparent as a means to put a salve on the hostility and only made things worse for himself, both from voracious Smash fans being crazy and from the fact that his divulging of information burned bridges and potentially hurt his career. Insiders can only share so much. If they know that the banner is fake, but they can't specifically say why it is without putting someone in harm's way, then they're not going to go into detail on why it's fake or how they know. You can either accept their word for what it is or choose not to believe, but harassing them and moaning about being led by a carrot on a stick is not a healthy way to handle it.
And in any case, the Grinch banner is more of a carrot on a stick than anything. And it lured a lot of people into inevitable disappointment.

I do think it's a smart move considering how toxicity the community had become toward to any people with insider information. You and the insiders who have been victims of toxic gaming fanbase have my full condolences for everything happened. It just sucks and I was frustrated with how people treated each other during Grinch War.
I don't want to sound weird but you have been a huge part of smash community with all of us because I specifically remember you from brawl hype era even I didn't get involved with the discussion; and smash 4 hype era as well. But don't be a stranger if you feel like you want to drop by and share your thoughts.
Also I predict that smash ultimate dlc discussion is more likely to be tame comparing to Smash Ultimate base discussion, imo.
I think the only insider that was like that was Verge and maybe Liam, I don't remember any of them here acting like that. I am pretty sure Verge is the reason for the Inciniroar hate as well.
If it's fake then we'll have to accept that a 50 year old Frenchman used company resources to troll the internet with an elaborate banner for a video game, or someone impersonated him and risked a fine or jail time over it.
That would be fun but I also wouldn't want him to just wield a spear. Waddle Dees can do a lot more than that.

A lot of the "the insiders were being rude" stuff is nonsense, regardless of which particular person is being accused of it. I didn't see a single insider start out rude. They were accused of being smug and condescending merely for going against the groupthink and saying the leak was fake, and then when they defended thenselves people came down on them for being too mean. It's ridiculous.
