Looks better than I thought tbh, very reminiscent of Witcher 1 Geralt if I had to compare it to one of the games. I'd say he needs a scar or two but I've only read the first book and that was a while ago. Does he have facial scars in the books?

Just LOL. that'd be a pretty good costume -- for a cosplayer. Actually, that wig is still shit.

I think if only the hair looked better it would be absolutely fine. Let's hope it'll look different in the actual show. I mean this video is just a test right? Set pictures and videos always look bad.

It would be stupid to not base almost everything on the video game look cause that's what's everyone have in their mind. It's not like we only had the book and nobody have a picture of the characters in their mind. That's like creating a Harry Potter game with the same characters as in the book but not using the actors likenesses for that. Yes my example is the other way around but it would be the same.

Also, without the games, this series wouldn't exist and nobody would give a fuck about it (and Cavill wouldn't be Geralt). So the viewer base for this product is 80-90% fans of the games, so how could you not base the looks of the characters on the games?
Because CDProjekt has nothing to do with this and that wouldn't be interesting?
I mean, that's some childish gamers entitlement. The Witcher books were well known before the games, it doesn't matter if you had never heard about it. We've seen TV shows adaptations from books that were way more obscure than The Witcher ones.
And yeah if an AAA adaptation of the Harry Potter books is made I sure as hell hope they won't go with the actor likenesses from the movies, that would be terrible. It's fine for official movie tie-ins and even then... the characters in most of the Harry Potter games that came out alongside the movies didn't even look like the actors and nobody gave a shit.

My only point was that trying to shame people for comparing it to the only thing they know seems pretty silly. If they actually advertise it as an earlier adventure for Geralt, then people will be able to understand where it's coming from better.
They've been pretty candid about it being a books adaptation long before this tease came out. Not sure what else do you want the showrunners to do.

Lol that was a stupid ass video to do a character reveal. Should've kept it for a normal teaser where we can (hopefully) see there's a budget and not some poor studio shoot.
And yeah - he definitely needs a beard and a better hair.

Not sure what people are complaining about? He looks like Witcher 1 Geralt.

Never was a fan of his 3 look.

And canonically Geralt hates beards.

He could use some more scars though, or at least make the eye one more prominent.

Not sure about going clean shaven or the wig choice. Not a great first impression for sure but keeping an open mind. Some of the fan art of the guy as Geralt looked great so the potential is there.

Hair is too long and looks too naturally gray, its supposed to be white from mutations, not gray from age.

Yup, that looks like henry cavill in a wig. I can't help but think he looks stupid whenever he puts on a serious face.

Add the cat eyes and the scar(s) in, and it'll look a little better.

That, and go with the loose ponytail look - the long hair doesn't mesh with Cavill's face structure.

I'd be more worried about Netflix's creative forces being unable to carry a show for more than a few episodes, while rarely finding a consistent tone.

Does it really matter though, in the end it's a numbers game, book fans vs game fans.
It's their show so they can do whatever they want, but better be ready to take in a backlash if the majority expects something else.

Their fault for setting false expectations. This production hasn't been secretive about their intentions. And Ciri is clearly younger based on the casting. So that alone should have shown people this wasn't going to follow the games. Let alone Witcher 3.

Why is his hair grey? It should be white. He is called the white wolf not grey wolf. He looks like some bad cosplayer

As I said in the duplicate thread, add in the cat eyes and the scar(s), and/or give him some 'hard life' facial features, and it'll look a lot better.

The hair.....something needs to be done about it, because it doesn't flow well.

I don't have anything against Cavill (although I don't think he's a particularly great actor), but he is just woefully miscast here. That'd look ok for a cosplayer (the wig is still shit, though).

I dont care about the books. I havent read the books. I've only played Witcher 3 so dont give me shit.

Just give him a beard, take some libertys for damn sake.

People who go into this will most likely only know him from Witcher 3.

That....does not look natural. He is far too clean cut to pull off that look. Should have been Zach McGowan who even has the voice.

Hair looks terrible and fake, Cavill looks way to clean and innocuous. Overall it looks like a bad Viserys cosplay

Can't you all just cool it for a second? You will get your rough and grizzled Geralt in season 6 or something.
