1. ROCKY IV
2. ROCKY
3. ROCKY III
4. ROCKY V
5. ROCKY VI
6. CREED
7. ROCKY II

My order can change after every rewatch.. I love V, the biggest issue with it like Rambo III is series fatigue.

Rocky Balboa is probably only second to the original Rocky. It's amazing movie and has the best Rocky lines in the series. I'm always a mess by the end of it.

Wow some people have 5 above anything, even Creed.

I love Rocky Balboa, the ending felt so damn real. Felt like real people really saying goodbye to Rocky the boxer.

I actually find it hasn't aged that well for me. The "HDTV" look of the fight wasn't my cup of tea.

My faves are

1. Rocky I
2. Rocky IV
3. Creed
4. Rocky III
5. Rocky Balboa
6. Rocky II
(big gap)
7. Rocky V

That speech is epic though. It is the best "sequel" to the original Rocky though, I'll give it that.

i saw it as an apology for Rocky V. Stallone didn't want that to be the bookend so they managed a more graceful tapout for the character

all in all movie was pretty okay but kind of an afterthought in the gist of the other movies

The big issue I have with Balboa is that the montage comes out of nowhere. It was 16 years since the last movie and one montage got him back in shape. It was too formulaic for me.

I would've wanted scenes of Rocky working out and doing local fights before he ever meets Dixon's promoters. It would be a bit like the start of Rocky 1 except he'd be broken and worn down.

Uranus, get it?!? YOUR. ANUS.
The true Rocky series rankings:

1. Rocky - still the best underdog story
2. Creed - awesome movie, doesn't beat the original but it comes close
3. Rocky Balboa - very good tribute to the character's legacy
4. Rocky III - best pre-Balboa sequel, also read this
5. Rocky II - it has the best fight in the series
6. Rocky IV - best music; while enjoyable in its own way, quite a ridiculous movie
7. Rocky V - it's a bad movie but it's still Rocky so I don't mind it as much as most

Someone finally gets the ranking right

It does though? Out of the Rocky films (not counting Creed), it's critically the best reviewed one after the original, and it didn't exactly bomb financially neither. More than $150 million on a $24 million budget. From the fans' perspective I think the majority of Rocky fans have it in their top 3 as well.

I remember seeing this in theaters when it first released.

Great film. It's easily one of the best Rocky sequels.

The part with the speech with his son is powerful stuff.

Even the part where he lectures Pauly is alright.

The rest is inoffensive and dumb but good enough.

It's a legitimately great film, especially for those of us who are a bit older ourselves. That perspective gives a whole other level to the story and themes.

I just realised I haven't seen this film! I love the Rocky movies and Creed, I've got no idea how I missed this.

Going to purchase now.

Rocky Balboa is GREAT. A few months ago I rewatched the entire series and it's definitely top 3 material. It's only real flaw is the weaksauce opponent, Stallone should've cast an actual actor in that role.

I love this film and having re-watched it recently, I'm surprised it didn't get an Oscar nod for best lead.

Stallone is superb in this film and it does a great job addressing the loneliness that comes with age. Rocky is a relic from a past era and until Marie shows up to give him someone to bounce off of, he's only got Paulie. Paulie's evolution throughout the series is great and watching him and Rocky so dependent on each other in this film is really touching.

The quote Rocky gives to his son is legendary but I think a much better example of Stallone's acting is actually the exchange between him and Paulie in the meat factory, where Rocky tells Paulie he has 'stuff in his basement', referring to his inner anger and pain after the passing of his wife. The tears that come to Rocky's eyes get me every time.

Oh. And the music in this film is absolutely incredible. Totally has that Rocky (Original) vibe that the follow ups lacked.

It was alright. It's definitely better than the majority of Rocky films. For me it goes Creed, Rocky, Rocky Balboa, Rocky 3 and then all the others. Creed 2 is looking to top that list though, damn the trailers look good.

I remember him having some great lines in a courtroom scene where he tries to get a boxing license.

I remember some great acting in a scene where he talks to Paulie about Adrian in a meat locker.

The final scene, in the cementery, when he turns and says goodbye (to Adrian, but also to the viewer), always destroys me.

I unironically love 5. It's very much a product of the times in style, but I'd say it's even more realistic than Balboa because he's broke and brain damaged like most boxers after their career. Rocky can't get his shit right with anyone in 5, whereas in Balboa, he's your typical old dude that dusts himself off for one last fight. I liked Balboa, but it's still kinda shallow like 2.

Meat locker and drunk Paulie scenes were also way better than the baby Rocky speech. It loses me at the self-determinist schlock, whereas the Rocky/Paulie scenes show a lot of pain and more heart.

I didn't actually like it all that much. I went through all of the Rocky sequels in the space of a month, and while I appreciated the return to the more down-to-earth feel of the earlier films, it just felt overwrought and kind of goofy. Like, so serious it's over the top.

There's some great scenes in there, though - in particular I love when he's dragging Paulie around to all of his and Adrian's "old haunts" while he's complaining and whining like the bitter old asshole he is. But then they're at the empty lot that used to be the ice skating rink, and he finally starts crying and admits he hates thinking about Adrian because he was such a cruel, awful person to her and feels guilty about it. It's really weird seeing him have that moment of self-reflection.

In general though, it just doesn't hit the right notes. A solid attempt, and kind of a prototype for Creed, but I think the "old Rocky" stuff was handled a lot better there.

Rocky > Creed > Rocky IV > Rocky III > Rocky II > Rocky Balboa > Rocky V

Though maybe Balboa beats II, that's a close one.

Creed would be as good as Balboa and Rocky 1 if:

1. The love interest was either given more screen time or written out of the movie. As is she feels like she is just kinda there

2. People on motorcycles or atvs or whatever didn't start circling Donny at the end of the training montage

That movie (kind of like Creed) took a ridiculous premise- (long retired 50- something Rocky, coming back to fight the current heavyweight champ) and actually made it work. While I do adore the 80s cheese Rocky films (that's what I call 3 through 5, some may lump 2 in there as well, but I find it a good follow-up to the original), Rocky Balboa was the first truly worthy follow up in the franchise since the first one (and maybe 2).

Most boring antagonist in the series hurts the movie's standing.

I would say that's because he isn't really an antagonist at all. He's just another boxer working on his own personal issues (being a longtime champ in a division where the competition really isn't there anymore, and not getting any respect/recognition for it). The point is both he (and Rocky) come out as winners after the fight.

Fantastic movie and to me the second best rocky movie. It's raw, emotional, him and Paulie are so good. It's the true send off to the series.

Creed was great but it's a new story mostly, I loved seeing Rocky's story end in Balboa

I still can't believe they filmed an alternate ending where he wins.

The thing that really blew me away about Rocky Balboa was Burt Young. The scene after he gets laid off from his job was incredible.

Considering how dumb the Rambo sequel turned out to be, Rocky Balboa is definitely a success. It's strange that after all that, his son gets written off in Creed anyway, but oh well.
