I dunno. Maybe Shadow is just not in the game at all and Mach Rider is AT.
Oh how I just wish after all these years I could just know if he's in or not before a reveal. :( At least then I can go in without false hope.
Everyone has a different idea in their head of what "not too many" means, but I think Sakurai has already exceeded that amount for anyone who had reasonable expectations at E3.
There could be no more characters announced and Inklings, Ridley, Daisy, Simon, Richter, Chrom, Dark Samus, K Rool, and Isabelle would all be a very satisfying additional selection of characters on top of literally everyone from the past games.
Isaac being an Assist Trophy would be crazy. I'm gonna be on the edge of my seat during the Assist Trophy rundown. Praying there is no Dixie Kong or Skull Kid in there.
IIRC, didn't they only say multiple characters on the banner are an AT? Meaning it could be as few as 2?
Same reason they just showed Ashley in the background with no mention. They didn't think it was a big deal to show them

The thing is, Mystic also disagreed with himself completely. He hasn't mentioned the likelihood of Geno since he went back on most of the banner being in. Unless Emily confirms anything to the contrary, i'm assuming she's only referring to his recent stuff about Isaac still being in and there being big jrpg third party.
How about a character from Sega and GameFreak's second crossover game.
Sakurai was going to add him but they forgot to put him on the box art and so decided to skip him.
Box theory makes no sense anymore if we take Emily at face value. She said there are multiple characters she knows about who aren't on the banner. The only way for box theory and that statement to both be true is if Ken isn't in the game, which seems extremely unlikely at this point.
Mystic said post-lockdown that he was highly confident in Isaac and Geno - two characters Emily seems to be outright contesting
Order of likelihood among Grinch and Grinch-adjacent characters:
- Ken
- Incineroar
- Shadow
- Isaac
- Geno
- Chorus Kids
- Mach Rider
- Banjo :(
If it's Shadow, Incinieroar and Ken and only one more that's Geno or not a massive SE character are the announcements, then I wish they moved the Castlevania announcement around as the character announcements would go out with a whimper rather than a bang for me personally.
All this talk about characters that are not in the Grinch banner really made me more optimistic about Elma.

Let's all keep in mind that among the current newcomers, only Ridley, Simon, and Isabelle were heavily hinted at by insiders. King K. Rool, Chrom, Dark Samus, and Daisy were all total surprises (Inkling doesn't count).
So I'm hoping we get something totally out of left field tomorrow, in addition to the inevitable Ken, Incineroar, or other characters that have been widely hinted at.

It's not guidance when every one of them contradicts one another.
The new Square Enix rep will be Terra from Final Fantasy 6.

I like to hope this is the case, but at this point, it's very possible that the insiders just know the full roster. The game's either gold, or incredibly close to being gold. There's a demo starting after the stream. Exponentially more people know the full roster now than before the August Smash direct.
Emily is at the top for me. So I'm good.
While it would suck to have no Isaac I'm already happy with the game.

I like Andre predicted like the ARMS type of lobby for Smash. I would love that. The ARMS lobby is so cool.
I mean, only Mystic directly contradicts them. Emily, Imran, Masozi, Tom Phillips and Verg's info can all line together pretty well. Knowing that, I'd guess that Mystic is wrong.
If we put their info together, the roster is likely:
-Ken
-Incineroar
-Maybe Shadow
-One banner character that isn't Ken, Shadow, Isaac, or Banjo. Personally, I think it's Geno since that lines up with Verg's info about a Square Enix character. Emily disagreeing with Mystic could contradict this, but she didn't specifically say what she disagreed with and Mystic has been flip-floppy on Geno.
-First party mystery character
-Possibly more surprises, but none that have been directly hinted at.
With Isaac being an AT, and one more character off the banner (could be Shadow) also being an AT. Banjo's not in, and one more character off the banner isn't in.
