I expect 10 million Q3 2 million Q1 unless there is a price cut in preparation for New Switch.
It sold 3 million last Q4. Q3 should do 10 to 11 Million and Q4 will be up over last year with smash in December and nsmbu in Jan and FE in March. That is probably going to lead to 0.5M to 1M increase, which is why 15 million vs last year's 10.5 million over the same time period is possible.

Not trolling, my opinion has been considered trolling before.

Has it occurred to anyone here that outside of the Nintendo die hards and the wii casuals, Nintendo isn't what it use to be.
I see the switch doing n64 numbers at most. Once the Nintendo fans buy it and some casuals who like Pokémon, who is left?

They release the same games over and over again and their fans think it's the best thing. The new Zelda did not deserve 10s.
I don't see switch doing more than 50mill max this gen

The Switch will surpass N64 lifetime sales by next April. Try again.

Outside of a civilization ending event, it's nearly impossible for the Switch to not reach 50 million life time sales. Follow some sales threads and compare its trajectory to other hardware. Out of curiosity, what do you think was the golden age of Nintendo? The early 90s when they had 90% of the market? Last gen with the Wii as their best selling home console and the DS as their best selling handheld?

The price is what hampers them. I don't know the component cost is but if the console was $200 it would fucking fly off the shelves.

You probably shouldn't engage with someone claiming NIntendo releases the same games over and over again. People who don't even know the difference between Mario Galaxy, 3D World and Odyssey or Windwaker, TP, SS and BotW are either willfully ignorant or trolling hard. Or both.

Fair enough. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt since they don't seem to post much, but it does reek of trolling.

The dude has 4 posts in half a year lmao. 3 of them taking about how Zelda is overrated, including the classic Belda talking point. It's some console warrior's alt account. Just report him, I did.

Based on what? They sold 7,2 million last year between October and December. You actually believe with all these bundles, Pokémon, Smash and Super Mario they'll sell less in 6 months than last year in 3?

Get outta here.
Hehe.
Well, there's the news about the new Switch which I think will cause a lot of people to take a lets-wait-and-see approach.
In terms of audience, the Switch has less titles for casuals than the Wii so I don't expect the same kind of popularity for now.
Software sales will be nuts though because assuming a rough 1:1 estimate then 22 million people already own a Switch.
Who doesn't own a Switch excluding a good chunk of the casual Wii audience? A good number of PS, XBox and PC gamers. Those people are the ones who can strongly help Nintendo push those numbers. Around 70% of Switch owners own a PS4 or Xbox. That's 74 million people yet to get a secondary console in the Switch.
Besides Smash, you need to have appealing titles for that to happen. Who is going to put down RDR 2 to go buy a Switch just to play TWEWY? (._.) Fine that would be me but I digress.
Let's Go is obviously capitalising on GO but how many people are going to put their phone down to go buy a Switch to play a game with some elements of one they already own?
The potential is there but I'm just offering a pessimistic view for the sake of debate.
Everyone agrees it could happen and that's fine. There are two Switch systems in my house a 2DSXL and 2 3DSXL all different regions because I support Nintendo so please don't think I'm just saying it out of spite.

do people really think Smash will sell more Switches than Spiderman sold PS4s? like, not everyone likes Smash lol
Best case scenario I can see them selling 5M more, but that's it.
I think Pokemon Lets Go, although preorders have been weak, will probably outsell Smash

I don't know anyone personally who cares for smash. It's just one of those games I don't understand the appeal other than it's a Nintendo wet dream collaboration effort.

What? Are you saying that September sales should be compared to December sales? The comparison is that over the next 6 months last year Switch sold 10.5m with no huge system sellers in November through March, this year there is 2 and a stronger post holiday lineup, it will sell more.

5 million more than what? If Smash alone moves 5 million consoles this holiday then it will have more than done it's job.

Also, there is no game everyone likes. Odd criticism against Smash there.

it's not against Smash per se, since I'll probably be playing it on my trip to Japan, it's just insane to me that people think it will sell so many consoles. Smash isn't huge enough to carry that many units. It's huge in forums and whatnot, but I just don't see it doing Zelda BOTW or Odyssey numbers

Yes? Smash fanboys literally mostly only played Smash. It exist in the same centrum audience as Animal Crossing audience which have yet to come to Switch as well as Pokemon. To said that not everyone like Smash is a strange statement to made as there is zero games that is for everyone lol.

One thing we can be sure though is, Smash sold 12m+ on Wii with the worst wom Smash. Smash on Switch this time will hit crazy number based on the hype.

it's well known to be Marvel's most famous hero, so, yes. Bigger audience than Smash for sure

I just don't see it. Smash is not gonna sell 10M consoles

There's nothing to suggest Spider-Man has a bigger video game audience than Super Smash Bros. And just like SSB, not everyone loves the franchise .

Also, Smash Bros alone isn't going to sell 10 million Switch consoles this holiday. Almost no one believes that.

No Zelda game has reached Smash Brawl numbers yet.

Damn. People really don't know how big Smash really is.

Melee was the best-selling game on the Gamecube. Brawl outsold Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess, and was behind only Mario Kart Wii and NSMB Wii in terms of tentpole Nintendo franchises on the Wii. Smash 4 Wii U sold just slightly less than NSMBU and Super Mario 3D World and was behind only those two games and Mario Kart 8 in total sales.

Why do people think Smash doesn't sell?

You are not counting that Smash Bros 3ds also sold 9m+. It is pure insanity to see people downplay Smash Bros sales potential lol.

It's going to be interesting to look at. The recent Nielsen poll had people super excited for Spider-Man as well as Let's Go and Smash. Personally, I think there will be more Switches sold for Smash then Let's Go, but it's also going to depend on if Nintendo decides to do a price cut as well.

Smash 4 was also the #8 best selling game on 3DS, behind Mario Kart, NSMB 2, Super Mario 3D Land, 3 different Pokemon releases, and Animal Crossing. Not bad for a two-console release.

Not on the team 20 million this year, but the Switch is flying off the shelves at the $299 price. Even the PS4 regular is flying off the shelves at $299 price this year and it's towards the end of it's life

Smash has literally in history always beat 3d mario and all zelda release but nahh.... this one wont sell well. As niche man is loved by everyone while smash is not.
not 64, but yea the others did.
(well actually also 3DS didn't outsell 3D Land. Unless you include the WIi U version. But then some would say to include 3d world if that's the direction it's going. but anyway...)

The lone exception to this is 3DS, where 3D Mario outsold Smash. Both the Wii U and 3DS versions of SSB had a sales impact on the other SKU though, so it's not too surprising. I think the Wii U version in particular hurt the 3DS sales a bit, despite the 3DS game ultimately selling a fair bit more. Though it can also be said having a Smash game on 3DS kept some people from considering a Wii U console purchase. Basically, both games cannibalized the other in some way.

Edit - oh yeah, N64 as well. Forgot about that game for some reason haha

Not everyone likes Spider-Man either and, unlike the PS4, the Switch is still young. I'd imagine that the Smash will do more to sell the Switch, a young system that still hasn't had a lot of its major releases come out yet, then Spider-Man will for the PS4, a system that's several years old now and is fairly mature.

Also...just how much do you think Smash sells? Each generation, the games sell more and more, and the best selling Zelda has still yet to outsell Brawl, which Ultimate is all but guaranteed to outsell, and Smash and 3D Mario are about as big as each other. With Pokemon Let's Go having a bit of a muted response, I'd imagine Smash will do better as well

Not with 3D Mario. 3D Mario usually best Smash.

It's almost a wash, actually. 3D Mario sold better on N64, 3DS, and Wii U. Smash sold better on GCN and Wii (though Wii had two 3D Mario games, so I guess if you count both instead of just Galaxy 1, Mario wins here). I don't really know how Ultimate will fare against Odyssey, though my gut says it'll outsell Mario by a hair.
