There is also FC2 vs FC5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCeEvQ68jY8&t=198s

My problem with this video is, in my opinion sacrifices need to be made. This applies to the lazy argument "Why can't RDR2 have the same gunplay as Max Payne 3?! It's six years old?!" The majority of the people who buy these games jizz their pants over graphics and eye candy. If you want that, you need to give up other things. And if the graphics are sacrificed for gameplay then there will be threads complaining about how bad it looks. I could be wrong though.

Often times it's priority set by those who run the studio. You all would not believe the rework done in certain areas vs others due to this. You can usually tell by the studio make up and what roles are fulltime vs outsourced. Often times a group of people will get together in their own time just to try to improve something that is not seen as a priority. Sometimes it's allowed in other times not due to politics.

Somehow I'm not surprised that Bethesda's client is a mess. It's all about avoiding the 30 percent while doing as little as possible.

Sadly this is how many big corporations work. They will NOT greenlight funding to improve anything "no one" is using. You have to get people using it first, show that there is legit business impact because x num of users are being affected before they will even green light dedicating resources at all. In the beginning it will only be resources to react , not enough resources to plan beyond or create new features.

Despite many of us in design who argue if you are consistently investing and improving users will come, business focused people who control resources use content to lure and wait until a threshold is hit before greenlighting any resources.

The client is not part of the business plan metrics and they are hard to convince it needs to be when they see other standalone games doing fine with minimal viable clients.

Common sense sadly is not a metric and neither is one company as they can be seen as a edge case, not a viable business model to duplicate.

Loading up the Games for Windows Marketplace as I type this.

Actually still got it installed.

Anyone remember Game Room?

I do remember Game Room, know quite a few who worked on it. It had some overlap with the 1vs100 era which I worked on. I never messed with it tho then it was quietly shut down , at least internally.

Sadly can't download it anymore, everything else (would love to play a bit of Tinker and Viva Pinata again) gives me an error too and MS Flight which I still had installed crashed while loading. It also asked for the registration key but the store just showed me a blank space. That's why I have trust issues. Oh well, might rewatch some of Giant Bomb's Game Room videos, always a good time.

Also, wasn't 1vs100 quite successful? Never played myself but I got the impression it was a big deal. Then it stopped and never came back instead of maybe expanding to the PC.

I never messed with GFWL marketplace. Back then there was a huge disconnect between Windows and Gaming way more than even now. Xbox had approached the Windows team about collaborating as Xbox didn't have the resources or funding in comparison and the Windows team at that time was riding high and didn't care about games.
Xbox only existed because of money they were generating as far as many were concerned.

I have no idea on who was even driving the GFWL initiative but no way was it a business priority to either part of the company it needed to be in order to become a long term success.

I think someone was passionate about PC gaming which was pretty anti Xbox and Windows culture at the time and tried to drive and show impact hoping the company would see value and properly invest.

1vs100 was super innovative, something fresh and such a talented unique team. It did not print money directly instead it helped drive growth indirectly. We knew we were driving Xbox live gold memberships because we were hitting a new audience. But ip costs, development risks being innovative, and a change of leadership killed it. I think from a business perspective MS chose Kinect over 1vs100 type initiatives as Kinect could be driven from various business sectors and would generate more growth and was easier to market.

Also new leadership likes to start their own initiatives vs carry on previous ones.

Going back to the previous page, the game was never going to be a steamworks game or anything, it would just launch Bethesda launcher just like Ubisoft games launch Uplay and ESO launches Bethesda launcher. Its just dumb we cant buy on steam just to have our games in one place.

Edit. Also, impressions. I am 2 hours in level 6. I have explored a bit and done a few quests. It is essentially fallout 4. I am a bit confused about items being shared in the environment with all of the players. A big part of fallout for me was exploring various buildings and sites and finding cool items or magazines or whatever but so far I havent found anything that wasnt just trash really and I even ventured off and searched some big factories and the like. I dont care for the multiplayer aspect at all but it hasnt really been a huge part for me so that is good. I see people running around and whatever but they do there own thing. I will stick with it for a few more beta days and see if I want to pick up at launch.

So the same thing that happen with quake champion and elder scrolls legend happened to fallout 76.

In regards to their launcher. People really defend that?

You think an incompetent launcher would be more of an issue considering the issue with fallout 76 was not their first or second time.

I guess now that Steam allows AO game, I can let this secret out.

There is a game that released in 2017 on Steam that had and still has very visual cg and animated sex.
The game is also sold on DLsite (which says a lot about its content).
As opposed to Everlasting Summer, it somehow never got reported/caught.

Anyone else knows of games that somehow secretly got away with it?

I mean, I got the game because some of my friends are playing it - but pretty sure everyone knew beforehand that this is basically a better looking Fallout 4, without the mods that make Bethesda games great.

It'll be fun for a month or so (with friends), but super boring after that.

I'm sort of in awe of how unappealing 76 is to me. Even with all the issues Bethesda games have, they would still always grab me for like a good 50 hours. But with 76 it's going on a deep sale watchlist.

Will probably get Underworld Ascendant that day if it ends up any good instead.

Bethesda wins after all.

Speaking of cars, remember how yours always broke down and you had to go to the hood, hold a button and watch it magically repair itself? FC2 was filled to the brim with that kind of boring nonsense. The buddy-system was ill-thought out crap too for a number of reasons. I'll never understand the praise it still gets, makes me suspect people have only played it for couple of hours and/or just fooled around without actually trying to complete the story because if you do the whole thing falls apart imo.
ooof I think my brain blocked that out on purpose...damn yeah that shit was annoying

Starting to get into the groove with Shadow Warrior 2. All my complaints remain but I know my way around the weapons a little better, so things are slightly less bullet spongy.

My initial response was "Jeezus" but thinking about it this is probably still using the Fallout 4 engine, right? So this is literally still built on the Gamebryo engines bones, so the framerate tied to game logic is something common to Fallout 3 and the Way of the Samurai games as well. I wonder how fair it is to say this is a very ambitious co-op mod with bits of 20 year old engine still in there.

Interesting to hear Fallout 76 experiences. Seems to be all over the map. Seems many do want to give it a chance however. It will be interesting to see what the game becomes in six months or so and if they are able to respond to player feedback in a timely manner to keep players engaged.

I told you guys this would happen
Judging by Quake Champions Discord, their launcher is still remaining THE worst launcher on PC I've ever used. It's still redownloading the entire fucking game after every patch, and download speeds are usually somewhere at 200-300 kbps range, not to mention it can just stuck at some point and give you an error so you will be forced to redownload the whole thing again. And the most ridiculous thing, it was like that almost 1.5 years ago and it hasn't changed since then. I'm fully expected that Fallout 76 launch would be a massive disaster, but who needs Steam for not doing anything and just taking that 30% cut from poor developers.
Can't wait for the launch day

Tried to get into the holiday spirit with Costume Quest which I never played but there's insane flickering and since Windows ruined switching framerate modes on a high refresh monitor a few updates ago I guess the 30 fps cap breaks it? Will have to try on the tv later

Was there anything else to Beth rpgs other than the ability to hoard 300 cheese rolls and 300 bugs per every roll?

Bummer, even on a 60hz tv Costume Quest is unplayable due to flickering and artifacts. Nothing in the steam forums about the game being completely broken :/

Edit: FAQ mentions it can be caused by forced msaa but I'm not doing that so sigh no questing

Bethesda are japanese developers, give them some time to catch up western studios.
Vallyria Chronicles 4, FF15, Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2, Shining Resonance Refrain and others all support 21:9.

(I know you are joking, I just wanted to make a point that many JRPGs are now better about this than fucking Fallout. Absolutely shameful)

Still undecided whether I should skip Halloween sale. The timing is not ideal as Hitman 2 is coming in 9 days, and I don't want to buy a bunch of game and turns out never playing them. Maybe I will wait for Fall sale.

女装妹妹从没少过麻烦... What the hell is this.

Usotsuki Game / 谎言游戏. Somehow a Chinese game has a Japanese name, and the Japanese name is not even properly translated. It should be Uso Game instead of Usotsuki.
