Time to find a new hobby, because the years between 2015 to now have been pretty stellar years in gaming.

Have you considered painting.

Bloodborne very quickly became my favourite game of all time, so I can see where you come from, but we've had nothing but great years since 2015.

I recommend Monster Hunter. World has the AAA polish/graphics and it's easier to get into, but Generations Ultimate has much more quantity and quality of content.

Yep, you should try to play more varied games/ Either try to find some indie games, or maybe some older games, or straight up genres you have never touched before (puzzle games ? turn based games ? simulation games ? Fighting games ? whatever you want, video games are not exclusively big AAA singleplayer games or multiplayer shooters)

It might also be because you are burnt out. Try taking a break and come back later, when a games that truly hypes you up comes out.

It's not about being "burnt out" i barely have time to play these days. It's just none of the games released have satisfied what I'm looking for. I'm a big fan of story, world-building, and role-playing. So, that either means a single-player, linear experience or a open-world action-adventure or RPG. Yet, none of the ones released since 2015 have truly satisfied me.

I don't care for puzzle games, fighting games, abhor turn based combat, and feel Rome Total War was the peak of strategy games.

After BB, MGSV ended up being a disappointment and i initially really hated Witcher 3. Halo 5 was so mediocre i didnt know what to do.

Hated Uncharted 4. Was meh on Quantum Break. Couldnt get myself to play Gears for more than 2 hours. And then Titanfall 2 came out and it showed me what single player shooters can do. it was thrilling, ingenius and above all FUN.

BF1 multiplayer was also thrilling in ways only BB and other souls can be. It left me shaking, literally ducking bullets, jumping from explosions and cringing at people dying all around me. i remember just laying there on the sand mustering up the courage to get up and charge the enemy. It was like saving private ryan. It's what i have been wanting from games for two decades.

And then came the last guardian, a frustrating yet beautiful experience that left me slack-jawed by the way it ended. the last hour or so of that game was gut wrenching. it was like watching the SOTC ending on steroids. the setpieces through out the game were better than uncharted 4. i am not much of a feels guy but that ending left me a wreck.

I thought TLG couldnt be topped and yet a couple of months later i played Horizon and was blown away again by the beautiful world and the combat. it ended up being a little underwhelming at the end, but i consider it the best combat system ever made.

Uncharted Lost Legacy had some fantastic moments too. I really truly enjoyed it. Loved the open world. Loved the final chapter and setpiece. And loved the graphics.

Tried AC unity next and fell in love with Paris. I swear i spent 30 horus doing the puzzles to find landmarks because i liked exploring the world so much. AC Origins was a great departure from AC games and while it got old at around the 20 hour mark, i did enjoy most of my time with it.

This year MGS was a great surprise. A game i expected to hate but ended up playing for nearly 200 hours. God of War was my game of the gen. Detroit is the best game David Cage has made. Spiderman is the best game Insomaniac has madea and red dead just might be the best game rockstar has made. i hated the first couple of years of this gen but its been alright since.

p.s. i fucking loved Nioh. combat in nioh is so smooth and so delicious omg i loved slicing people.

What did Witcher 3 and BB have that you couldn't get or experience in a similar capacity when playing Red Dead 2 or DS3?

I forgot DS3 came out after BB, yes add that to the small list of fulfilling games. The whole Soulsborne series helped me get through some tough times. In fact, I love DS3 more than BB.

I'm going to say something that worked for me after feeling uninterested in games for some time. Many might think this is stupid, because it sure sounds dumb when I say it out loud. It might also be a personal issue because I have trouble focusing sometimes and that can lead me to losing interest in something that I can really like... but smoking pot really helped me get back into getting immersed and interested in a lot of games.

Yeah.

Yeah, "play indie games" seems to be the solution here. Hollow Knight, Night in The Woods, Inside, Iconoclasts, Celeste, What Remains of Edith Finch, there were a ton of amazing games released this year and the last.

Yeah if you're only trying to play AaA gAmEs then you're gonna have a bad time. I play one or two of them a year since most of them look boring, and spend the rest of my time catching up on older games that I know I've enjoyed.

It happens and it sucks.

God of War was the first game in a long while I had fun and never felt like what I was doing was a chore.

Dragon Quesr XI was great at first but then after 12 hours just dropped it and I can't explain exactly why

Based on your answers, I think you should try Hollow Knight, Yakuza 0 and Wolfenstein II. All have great emphasis on narrative, atmosphere and gameplay.

My immediate gut reaction to your OP is that you really gotta try playing games that aren't "story-driven AAA PS4 release." Play weirder games, play more niche games, play older games. Play Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter or R-Type Final or Klonoa or Bionic Commando Rearmed or Wonderful 101 or Panzer Dragoon or Shin Megami Tensei IV. Broaden your horizons!

Witcher 3 had the same effect on me. I had to step back and play "quick fix" games. I have to space out my massive titles because i won't ever finish them.

ACO is on the backburner right now because of RDR2

If you play most major releases but haven't really enjoyed a game in over 3 years then it's time to take a break of two or three months and decide if gaming is still for you. Maybe just having that break will reinvigorate your interest, or maybe you'll decide to step away for a while and do a something else with your spare time.

In 1996 I felt this way about 1994 and I legitimately did not buy another video game or console until 2004. Sometimes you just need a break.

Nothing can ever top Bloodborne for me this generation. The closest there was, was Witcher 3. Thought RDR2, but nope, next up I guess is TLOU 2.

I assume you've played The Witcher 2? I like it a lot more than 3 personally.
A bit random, but I'd also recommend Sherlock Holmes: Crime and Punishment.

Fighting games, son. Soulcalibur 6, Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, pick your poison and get in on that deep, intense and rewarding gameplay.

Try things you're skeptical about or even think you won't like. Try things similar to things you haven't liked in the past. Branch out. Explore. Experiment. Diversify.

lol, I take unintentional breaks from gaming that last more than a year sometime. If he considered a break I'd suggest a minimum of 12 months.

I was in sorta similar position after Witcher 3 and especially blood and wine. And I have enjoyed most games I played but it never evoke strong reaction from me until rdr 2. I think it's the closest Witcher like feel that a got from a game. And it only took 4 years, lol

are you looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 op? that game will probably be the one that tops Witcher 3 and it's hopefully "only" 2 years from now that we get to play it. In the meantime play REmake 2 or something when it comes out.

Well I've had many fulfilling experiences since TW3 but no game since has left me as emotionally bereft. Or, no game since The Witcher 3 has left me feeling like

at the thought of it being over.

Stop playing only big budget AAA releases and comparing them to other big budget AAA releases that you like a lot and will probably tend to romanticize.

I mean... Bloodborne is GotG, so of course other games pale in comparison. If you don't like Horizon or Dad of Boy though, I don't know what to tell you. They were GotY material for me. I'd suggest checking out the SotC remake if you haven't tried it, that was a highlight for me this year.

Maybe you just need a break from games. That's OK too.

I question anyone who can play all those other titles and not enjoy them. It's okay to have fun with B- and C+ games. If you compare everything to two specific titles you loved nothing will ever have a chance. Try to appreciate games for what they do right and what is special about them, not what they don't do.

There are far too many gems since 2015. You are either being too harsh on games since then or not trying enough new experiences. Try Stardew, SoTC, Persona, MHW, Yakuza, Forza Horizon, Celeste, etc. try something out of your comfort zone

Play Dragon Quest XI.

Great game. Play it in bursts, 1 or 2 hours long. Treat it every play session like an episode of a tv show. Get attached to the world and feel the magic of the great ride it can take you on.

Well, there s no romanticization when it comes to TW3 or BB/DS3, I replay them all the time when I need something to play that will absolutely fulfill me. I recently just did another BB run through for the first time with a female character and am considering probably my fourth or fifth replay of TW3.

It's not about "not liking" these games, it's feeling unfulfilled or completely satisfied. I enjoyed the time I played with Horizon, but I wasn't blown away when it was over or salivating at the thought of a sequel.

I don't get this. Why is this a "dumbass" thread? If you've got nothing to add except a sassy and unhelpful gif why respond at all?!

Sure; I was just posting from my own point of view. I play something almost every day and going like 3 months without playing is a really long time for me, comparatively speaking. I'd imagine that holds true for many people who regularly post on a website like this. But if you take longer breaks more power to you my dude.

I get thinking The Witcher 3 is the best but this year alone I've had a ton of fun with Spider-Man and Odyssey especially. Spider-Man is maybe the most fun I've had with any game and Odyssey is the closest I've felt to playing TW3.
