I am really struggling with this (1st Baldur fight) fight. I have beaten God of War twice. Once on give me a balanced experience, and once again on give me a challenge (both before New Game + was released). I took a break from the game and decided to start a third playthrough on New Game +, Give me God of War difficulty.

And I can't do it.

Is the difficulty spike from hard (give me a challenge) to ultra hard (give me god of war) that big? I know what you have to do, basically block and parry, but I can't even get past his first phase. Anyone who can offer me some tips? I tried switching between bare-handed (to build up Spartan Rage) and the two weapons + their acquainted runic attacks. I don't know the specific gear that I have equipped, I am currently on a mini-vacation, without my PS4.

Inb4 'Git gud' comments, please don't. Looking for some insightful advice.

[Mod Edit: Moved the boss's name from the title into the OP to avoid potential spoilers]

That fight is brutal af on NG+

My advice, play defensively the ENTIRE TIME. Get hits only when you absolutely know that you'll be able to retaliate. NG+ forces you to play much slower and you have to be a lot more careful.

I just did a GMGOW playthrough and my advice would be to keep things basic at the start. The difference in damage that enemies deal is a bit jarring at first. Baldur is quick enough to hit you while you use runic magic. So no point in surrendering health in exchange for the abilities. Yes, spamming R1 and maintaining your blocks is kinda boring but it beats getting 2-3 shot by him.

Also if you can catch him waiting around, try to get an R2 on him and get him in the air then 4 R1s, then back off. Just take your time and prioritize dodging/blocking over the damage you deal.

I played on gmgow on my first playthrough and managed to beat him without any deaths. I thought the draugr fights before getting to him were all way harder. I died like, a dozen times on the first fight.
I don't think I did too much parrying in that fight. Mostly just dodged and hit him with basic axe combos when he was open.

Edit: Oh. Are the fights beefed up in NG+? I thought it was only the valkyries.

I took about 30 attempts to make it past the first encounter on NG+/Give Me God of War difficulty, so yeah your problem sounds about right.

Given not everyone has played the game, it would be best if you could request mod to change that title.

Also the best way to defeat him is parrying (at least that's the way I have dealt with him in the first fight).

Thanks, your advice is appreciated. I mean, I know I can do it. I got him pretty close to the end of phase 1 one time. I feel like playing defensively is exactly why I can't do any SoulsBorne games, but I'll try the tactics out

I can't even get past the very first Draugr on Challenge difficulty NG+. Shit is ridiculous. I get 2-hit by the first enemy in the game. I guess I didn't do enough exploring the first time around. My gear is mostly level 5.

Can you edit the op to include what fight this is in particular? Topic is confusing now and I never saw the original topic title.

Ok yes ty for the edit. I thought this may have been the boss because it took me about over 20 tries on it. I thought he's a little to overtuned personally, but being overly cautious was the only way I beat it. You have to be so patient too only attack when you are 100% certain you can get away with it. Seriously good luck op. Always be on guard.

If you have the amulet that slows down time and then use blessings of the frost thats quite good. r1 forward x r1 combo is good and if you throw your axe after you can lead it into spamming agile strike with l2 x circle repeatedly which can be effective.

My biggest issue in that fight was his side-step gut punch. Shit fucked me up. Once I started I blocking/parrying those, I freed his ass up.

oh yeah, I believe it says when selecting the difficulty how high level the enemies will be. they're like level 6 or 7 when on Challenge difficulty. You're definitely underleveled.

You are going to have a very hard time on NG+ GMGOW if your character isn't at least level 8 and you've never played GMGOW. The damage really spikes from GMAC.
