No one sneaked anything. That text has been on Rockstar's website for a while in the weapons feature page and it sounds like a typical Rockstar writing.

It's also on official RDR2 merch.

But maybe they traveled back in time and made changes.

Reads to me like a case of sneaking stuff in.

The five day work week, two day weekend didn't become a thing until the 20th century.

Lmao sure they did. Its totally not clickbait. What else could hard work be referencing in this game besides the 100 hours crunch.

Looks like devs making fun of their work conditions. It's pretty common to joke like this with each other internally. Or someone could really be pissed...who knows. I've caught a few things myself I had to get fixed.

yup, sure seems snuck in, even though it's been in printed material and on their site for quite some time.
Oh I'm sorry I didn't know the Housers personally oversaw the creation of the game's website and painstakingly went over every piece of promotional material with a fine toothed comb. You'd think they'd have better things to do but I'll defer to your inside knowledge.

How is this not a jab at them? It makes no sense otherwise.

It being on promotional materials is weird, I'll say that.

It being on such materials means either A) it's actually got nothing to do with them or B) Rockstar thought that the huge commotion was actually nothing (hence allowing staff to talk) and guessed it was funny to put in. Now given that those items were probably printed long before the story broke, I'd go with A, it's nothing to do with Rockstar and people just wish it was.

Rockstar employees have hated their working conditions for over a decade. You talk as thought this is some recent thing.

Are people really that big Houser fans that they think this obvious jab at crunch culture is just a "coincidence"?

Sure, the game made by the one company who for years has been notorious for the way they treat workers just happens to have this joke in it. I'm sure it's just a random funny joke some writer came up with.

But maybe they traveled back in time and made changes.
Because Rockstar having bad crunch issues has obviously only been a thing for two weeks.

I'm 100% convinced it's a jab at crunch culture, Eurogamer also mentioned that the place that's referenced in the ad is right next door to a Rockstar office.

I'm not convinced it's snuck in though. The way they boasted about 100 hour work weeks, it may as well be the higher ups embracing the joke.

No but whilst I agree it could have made it through to the game, I can't see the same wording getting to marketing materials without them fully knowing about it, so as I said it's one of the two options and I'm going with the first. People just want to believe it's something to do with working conditions at Rockstar when it's probably nothing to do with it at all.

... He didn't say they did, though? Promotional material will always be required to go through a ton of departments before it's cleared for release, especially at huge AAA studios with big publishers. The Housers don't necessarily have anything to do with this, it's just how the media machine works. And there is frankly no way that this would have gotten cleared if it was anything other than an innocent joke; if it was intended as a blatant stab at R* or crunch culture, it would've probably never seen the light of day, unless if someone really high up wanted to risk their job and push it through anyway. Otherwise, what's the point of having those departments in the first place? They're there to protect the company from legal trouble and prevent it from sending out the wrong messages. You don't need 'insider knowledge' to know that.

I have actually spoken with my wallet and not played GTAV or RDR2(not that it really matters in this case), but jumping at ghosts doesn't really help matters. That "crafty dev" that somehow was able to "sneak" this in also works in multiple departments somehow.

One is not related to the other. Their crunch has been known for decades.

The same image has heen on the official site and printed even. So this has been seen by multiple people at Rockstar, not hidden. Nothing "sneak" about something that everyone has seen before this post in here, before the game was released.

Could just be coincidence until we know otherwise.

Uh, this probably isn't related at all.

If it's just that...like just that...isn't it possible it's coincidence.

Lol are you being serious? It's so blatantly a reference to the crunch. How thick would you have to be not to see it? Or just in denial maybe.

Don't ever study literature because even the most blunt force reference is clearly lost on you...

Edit: sorry, this was supposed to be incredulousness rather than the raw aggression it came out as

But no one here is saying that this 'joke' is specifically made in relation to the news of the past couple of weeks, right? They don't need time travel to include a reference to bad crunch culture in their work, because it has always been a part of Rockstar. It could still be 'sneak', since I doubt the higher-ups at Rockstar comb through every single piece of marketing and even if they've seen it, they could've just brushed it off as a "Classic Rockstar" kind of joke. A 'hidden in plain sight' criticism is still sneaky in it's own way.

In a way this reminds me of that stuff with the tv show Homeland a while back where artists working with the show created some street art for the show that heavily criticized Homeland's portrayal of Muslims and Middle Eastern people. The art was seen and approved by everybody working on the show, but since they didn't understand the specific references and wording, the criticism flew completely past them. I can totally see people in the marketing department of Rockstar seeing that and not immediately making the connection 'new Revolver --> Red Dead Redemption 2' and just thinking it's a funny joke referencing real life issues, in the same way GTA has a lot of those kind of jokes.

That person will definitely be fired. So it must be an outgoing person that was happy to leave their mark on the game.
