Dardan Sandiego Thanks for posting that trailer. Looks rad to me.

Here's a bit more info I found for any interested.

Bandana Kid has announced that puzzle platformer Elli is heading to the Nintendo Switch eShop. The game will support English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Japanese language options.

While the developer did not specify a release date, they did tweet that the game will hopefully launch "before the end of 2018."
About

Guide Elli on her journey through the land of the Mandragora to reclaim the stolen Crystals of Time before her birthday is over, in this colorful puzzle platformer for the Nintendo Switch!

Key Features
  • A whimsical hand-crafted single-player adventure filled with a variety of puzzles and exciting platforming. Watch your step, there are many dangers to overcome!
  • Discover a delightful world, inhabited by the playful and usually helpful Mandragora. Journey from lavish beaches, through ancient temples, mountain tops and caverns filled with forgotten Mandragora technology, and more.
  • Unreal Dev Grant recipient.
  • A vast and ever-changing soundtrack, beautifully blending the themes of the world and underscoring Elli´s adventure.
  • Collect gems and and deviously hidden coins and exchange them for a variety of robes, staffs, and hats.
  • Simple pick-up-and-play controls, suitable for both kids and kids at heart.

Interesting. The start of that trailer was giving me serious Rime vibes, but then it begins to look more like a regular 3D platformer. One to keep an eye on.
Would you recommend Rime? I was just thinking about trying it on Game Pass. Looking for a narrative-heavy game my wife and I can play together but with me primarily playing because her hands are a bit limited due to carpal tunnel at the moment.[/quote]

Theatrhythm Curtain Call is $40 on the eShop

A used media place near me is selling multiple used copies for $5.99

I don't know if the game is worth $40 but I've been enjoying the hell out of it for $6. Button gameplay is great.

I love Theatrhythm, it's one of my favorite 3DS games. I wish we would get similar games with music from other franchises and developers.

It's a good port. There's some stuttering in the retro minigame you can play on Mae's laptop. Not sure if that's in the other console versions. The main game plays great.

Night in the Woods is charming as hell. Great writing and quite funny I think. I bought it in September so just missed the sale - had it on my watch list for ages - but I'm ok with that as it was still worth it. I didn't notice any performance issues, personally.

Thanks, bought!

Sorry I only played about ten minutes of it, so have no idea. No reflection on the quality of the game - I was just taking a peek. Think I got it on PS Plus or something.

Oh, I see. Well, thanks anyways for your reply! If you do end up playing more of it I'll be glad to hear your impressions.

Unless you have bandwidth caps I'd definitley recommend playing Rime with game pass. But I wouldn't call it narrative heavy so much. The focus is on exploration, th world and puzzles.

NintendoLife gave Save Me Mr. Tako an 8/10. The game can take around 20 hours to complete if you do all sidequests, so that's something.

Thanks OB, will update my post. Here's the link to the review for any interested:

Edit: that was a really good read, and acknowledges some technical and design flaws while also praising its many great qualities. Thanks again for posting it.

No bandwidth cap, I don't think. Thanks man. Did you enjoy it?
My wife played it to a point and eventually she didn't feel it totally grabbed her. I watched her play about 5ish hours.

I thought it looked cool and had some good ideas. It was a very neat first attempt at something different from that studio.

But to be clear I wouldn't have bought the game. I got it with PS+ and now have it with Gamepass so I think it is a fairly risk free game along the lines of Team Ico type game.

I mean it depends on when the other one releases, next month is tight for me, but while this month is light I can't nesse do both and genesis appeals more. So if that drops this month I'll grab it instead, but if not I could use snk 40th as a filler(and I still have a preorder discount)

Confirmed for December 7th.

YES perfect, I have smash preordered online, and delivery sucks around here(despite being in a suburb) So I can go grab this from walmart first thing in the morning while I wait for smash. Also yeah I'm skipping SNK 40th.... I kinda suck at pre genesis/SNES era games

Man, I really want to buy Sega Genesis Classics, but the sound issues... I don't know. I usually don't care about the technical issues our fellow ERA users complain about in some games, but in this particular case, I've played most of these games countless times and I know exactly how they should sound. I don't know if I can handle this:

In other related news, Sports Party comes out today. It looks very generic and I won't pay full price for it, but I'm curious to read reviews/impressions.

Yeah that wont bug me. call me a neophyte, but I only listen to the soundtracks of a handful of games I play

Whoa!! I just saw on the eShop that 'Monster Boy' is gonna be $40. I really wanted to get it, but that looks like a $20-25 game if I ever saw one. I'm sure it's gonna be good and the developers/publishers believe that the value is there and their work is worth it - but it's not a competitive price on the eShop or anywhere. Gonna have to wait for a 40-50% discount with that one.

Have you played Night in the Woods? Great narrative focused game, in my opinion (if a bit slow). I'd urge you to look into it. And it's on sale on the eShop right now.

Gorogoa could also be a fun thing to try together, though it's a puzzle game. I started it on my own, but it drew my whole family to the TV by the end. It's a fun game to watch.

To be fair 'Monster Boy' is in the same tier of production values regarding its 2D graphics than a Vanillaware game. It has been more than 5 years in the making, and contrary to games like let's say 'Celeste', this hasn't been a game made by a core team of a couple of persons, but by a middle studio.

A lot of times we see these prices because of a linked physical edition, but I think that this is not the case.

Let's not downplay 2D games: I think that if a 2D game decides to take the path of a big budget, trying to make the best game with 2D graphics in the market, and man, this game has been completely redone until three times to improve the general look, why they can't ask the same price of a middle production with 3D graphics?

This remembers me to the polemic with the 'The Witness', for its asking price of $40. Can a developer ask $40 for the BEST puzzle game ever made, and an open world game that surpass to every open world game made this generation that is not called 'Breath of the Wild'?

Personally, I'm very happy to see small studios and western independent developers reaching this level of ambition.

They also have a publisher and a full retail release. This is a mid tier game like Epilexia said. A lot of work has gone in to it and it isn't an indie game at all nor like most Eshop games.

I don't think it's downplaying this game or this type of games. I mostly play 2D indie games (and also not-indie games like the UbiArt games) but the eShop is already full with stellar games with more coming up every week.

That puts them at a disadvantage because it's not a price that invites just trying it out. This one is gonna depend heavily on reviews, impressions and word-of-mouth to get some traction.

I agree that indie studios getting ambitious is exciting. In that front i wish for this game to be a success - critically and comercially. Because I think most Switch owners probably have big backlogs and wishlists and that makes $40 a big asks and the prospect of waiting for a discount instead of supporting the devs on day-1 all the more tempting.

This game better bring the 'Celeste/Dead Cells'-level critical heat or the price will keep many people away. And even then those games had a more "inviting" price.

Quick heads up, the demo of Trivial Pursuit only lets you play 2 matches. Meanwhile, the Risk demo lets you play 8 turns, which I guess it's not as bad as the TP demo.
Not that I care that much, since I played like 5 minutes of each before unistalling them.

I bought this yesterday and will give some impressions later tonight.

I'm really bummed with the lack of touch controls. 'Deemo' and 'VOEZ' ruined these type of games for me, if they don't include touch control options. Specially, after seeing that this is game designed to be controlled with touch controls in its original iOS release.

By the way, I was very busy in the weekend, but thanks for your very detailed impressions of 'Magical Scroll Tactics' and 'Luke & Rebecca'. It's great to read feedback for these type of Japanese oddities.

You are the MVP in this October thread. Keep the good work!

Just musing on this, but I can actually see this being slightly favorable for the Collection. Many will be visiting the eShop ready to open their wallets for at least Smash. Seeing this collection under new releases as well at the top of the page might net some impulse purchases that otherwise wouldn't happen.

A lot of eyeballs will be on the eShop throughout Dec due to Smash. Get your product sitting right next to it on the store page isn't too bad a strat.

A friendly reminder that while 'Super Smash Bros Ultimate' has a BIG audience, this is for sure, not all the people is interested in the game. In the same way as not all the people is interested in 'Read Dead Redemption 2'.

If current gen consoles are doing a great thing, not only Switch, it's in building rich and varied libraries with games in almost all the imaginable genres.

My favorite game last year resulted to be 'Breath of the Wild', and this also happens to be a big title reaching a large audience.

But this year, the game that has captivated my imagination the most has been 'Into the Breach'. I can't stop playing this thing: I'm really, really, obsessed with the game.

A lot of people will be playing 'Super Smash Bros Ultimate' this Christmas. But not 100% of the Switch user base will be playing the game.

Maybe, it will be people playing instead 'Civilization VI', 'Diablo III', 'Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum'n Fun', 'Dark Souls Remastered', or even people obsessed with 'N++' playing the new levels created by the community, or even a minority of people playing otome visual novels. Or shmups. Or pinball games.

So no, the release of a game as big as 'Super Smash Bros Ultimate' will not stop the industry, and it can't stop the rest of games in other genres or targeted to other niche audiences to also come.

Any impression on the Steven Universe game?

I vaguely remember it being unoptimized on the PS4 when it originally came out, so I'm not super hopeful but I'm hoping it's at least a decent port.

I'm also really interested in seeing if they have fixed the bugs in the original PS4 release.

The first iOS entry was a masterpiece, a very creative take in the 'Mario & Luigi' formula. Same level of polish than a Nintendo title.

I'm really curious to see if they patched and fixed all the things that went wrong with the console release of the series.

If they have fixed the problems with bugs and these type of things, this is one of the stellar releases of the month.

As someone who doesn't typically like mobile games, I really loved the first game a ton as well. So with the pedegree of the first game (on top of me being a huge fan of Steven Universe), I was very excited about the sequel. Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, the console releases were plagued with bugs. So, not only was I weary from that, I actually wanted this on the Switch in the first place...

You know what, I'll just bite the bullet and hope for the best. Since I promised myself I wouldn't double dip on games I own elsewhere this month (I really want Switch versions of Diablo 3, Transistor, Rogue Legacy, World of Final Fantasy, etc., but I feasibly wouldn't have the time to play all of these games), I guess I'll spend it on games that'd I'd be playing for the first time like Save the Light and Moonlighter.

Hey guys, regarding Phantasy Star:

According to Siliconera the NA release will not be the 31st after all?

"It will not follow the same pattern as past installments in this series, which means it will not appear on the North American and European eShops on the same day. Sega PR Manager Jacob Nahin noted that the release date ini other regions will be different"

http://www.siliconera.com/2018/10/29/the-sega-ages-phantasy-star-release-date-is-october-31-2018/

And that's it, ok?

OH GOD WHY DO YOU HATE ME SO MUCH

I tried this game previously and for me, it was VERY basic and boring. Not sure what I was expecting but this was not it. I'd recommend at least watching some videos before buying. It may just be me but i was bored to tears lol
