Well I'm glad to finally have some confirmation at least. The first game was so damn good

Will they? Aside from the really odd situation with Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, Nintendo wouldn't just publish their version alongside the other versions.

They did it for Dark Souls Remastered. They'll do it again here.

Square Enix are too used to the cushy relationship they have with Nintendo right now (and have enjoyed ever since 2013 on 3DS). Nintendo have to pay for everything related to a western release of their retail games in order to get their support.

i wish i understood why SE refuses to release their own shit on nintendo platform.

Back on 3DS it was because S-E lost faith in the platform after KH Dream Drop Distance underperformed and the smartphone market exploded (Where Nintendo started paying for the localisations of pretty much every single 3rd party retail title on 3DS because they were desperate for support that would keep the platform alive). Now? It's because they know that they can make Nintendo publish their games for them by refusing to support them unless they pay for it. They've been doing this for the last 5 years and Nintendo is in no position to tell them to fuck off. They need all the support they can get.

Like the first title, SE will publish the PS4 version, Nintendo will publish the Switch game.
Which is freaking BS. Why can't SE publish their own games for Nintendo systems? As if they have no faith in any Nintendo system.

But oh well, this is great news. I'll buy this day 1, the first game has been amazing!

AFAIK, Nintendo paid for the entierty of Dark Souls Remastered on Switch. The port by Virtuous, the amiibo, the distribution, everything. Can't remember where I heard that from though, it was a good while ago.

I'd love to see this if someone finds where this was said. That's something else. Normally you don't hear of Nintendo literally money-hatting a port like that.

They did the same thing with Go Vacation on Switch (which is why Nintendo is listed in the copyright). Wouldn't surprise me if it was a package deal behind the scenes.

Rumour has it that Nintendo are money hatting Ridge Racer 8 as well, but we'll have to wait and see what happens...

I thought that was because of DQ IV and V on the DS. SE had did a lot of marketing that they were releasing DQ IV, V and VI on the DS in the west. Had it's own website and everything but after IV and V released they seemed to abandon the effort and it was doubtful that VI would ever release at all until Nintendo stepped in and announced they would publish it in the west.

Finally! Been waiting on them to announce this was coming to the west. Was already getting this on Switch anyway, but I could see alot of dissapointed people if this doesnt show up on other platforms.

Is it coming out on PS4 in Japan?

Nintendo published Go Vacation in the west and Bandai Namco published it in Japan, Dark Souls Remastered was published by Bandai Namco in the west and by From Software in Japan. Not really the same thing.

Of course it is.
And this will no doubt launch same date here for all platforms.

Just going to take this opportunity to twist the knife and point out that Dragon Quest XI S is a no show on that list, whether that's as part of Nintendo first party lineup outside of Japan or the third party lineup inside of Japan.

I was replaying Dragon Quest Builders 1 on my Switch last night. I'm definitely looking forward to playing the sequel on my Switch next year. And hopefully DQ XI at some point as well.

It's honestly better if SQEX just skip ps4 right now due to how stacked the releases are but again Q1 is japanese game bloodbath too so.

Switch on other hand is quiet right now, releasing it on Dec post Smash and pokemon isn't ideal

Them stealth announcing this but waiting for a good buzzy moment to announce that one doesn't really say much or contradict anything.

I was wondering how this will be handled. wonder if this will lead to a discernible difference in advertising and sales

DQXIS is probably a ways off, like maybe next summer in Japan. On the other hand DQXIS has already been confirmed for western release, unlike the PS4 version of Builders 2.

Eehh DQXI is a late port compared to DQB2 being a new game. They're about equal in stature.

That's more my point. It's not coming any time soon.

Really liked the first one, a building game w/ directions mixed with an RPG is what I needed. Will buy the 2nd one.

Do we know if this restarts your progress each chapter like the first game?

This sounds like it's different this time: https://gematsu.com/2018/10/dragon-...island-setting-more-evolved-building-elements
1. Vacant Island being accessible by boat means that the "free build" mode from the first game has been integrated into the story mode. This is good.
2. For the players to be able to migrate the NPCs they meet in the story to the Vacant Island... there would probably not be any chapter-based gating of the story.

holy fucking shit

It literally says at the bottom of the same page that games marked with an asterisk are licensed to be sold as Nintendo products.

Your answer is right there.

Square Enix doesn't publish Switch retail titles.
Probably for the best, to be honest. SE almost seems to want their Switch titles to bomb if we look at the different in marketing between Octopath Traveler in Japan (where they published it) and abroad (where Nintendo published it). Hell, DQ only started getting popular in the West when Nintendo published DQ9 because they actually gave a shit
