You need to have an empty "MUSIC" folder on your USB device.

If your /MUSIC folder contains anything, the Sampler app will not copy the tunes to USB.

So dumb how this is implemented and the piss poor error message.

Heh, funny story, we actually generated that music download app for Tetris Effect (and Rez and Lumines before that). It uses a built in SDK feature that essentially is like compiling a small game. It's kind of a necessary evil to use that app because for preorders there aren't any other alternatives :) It's definitely not super intuitive and the error codes aren't exactly helpful.

But the music in the sampler is definitely worth it, IMO, and the highest quality it supports.

Yeah, the upcoming demo should make the decision much easier.

And there is a 10% pre order bonus, not much but better than nothing and it will include a dynamic theme.

I think you guys will dig the theme. We love to do things that have never been done before, and we figured out a way to do animated particle volumes in a graphic environment that doesn't actually support it. It was developed specifically for themes for synesthesia-engine games, and took 6 months to get working!

Preordered this last week. Area X was amazing and if this has that same vibe it's going to be fantastic. VR Tetris is such an good idea

I find it so strange that there is so much balking at the price. $40 is pretty much what we paid for Tetris DS back when it came out, and that game goes for more than that now on the secondhand market. When the original Tetris came out for the NES it was $49.99 and it's pretty easy to say we're getting a LOT more content on this modern version than we did with that one.

Yes at its core it's still Tetris but I think it's a fresh enough take on the game where $40 seems more than fair.

Having played the game for 20-30 minutes at GDC, it's funny to me to see people questioning the value of the experience at $40. Playing it in VR, especially, was SO fulfilling and mesmerizing, I seriously think a lot of fence sitters will be wondering how they could've doubted. I think the wealth of modes (and the secrets) also far exceeds some more expensive efforts by a wide margin.

The waiting for Tetris Effect is hard enough and your post makes the waiting not easier ;)

Very excited for the theme !

Agreed, let's not forget Tetris has been a killer app before. When you strip away all the fancy modes and graphics from this to the bare bones, you still have the best puzzle game ever conceived by humans. It's probably the main reason portable gaming was seen as a viable market in the 80s. Not saying it will have the same effect on VR, but I dont think we can discount its impact yet. This would be a fantastic "test drive" for lots of people, since it's so familiar and the particle effects make a hell of an impression.

So hyped for this demo to come out. Tetris is my favourite game ever. I will buy it on any console. And this sounds like a great version. Will double dip on a PC version when that comes for VR.

The most vocal gamers are some of the most entitled and ignorant people. Everyone likes a good deal but some people will complain to the moon and back that a game is too much money without considering the costs that go into making a game

Hype! I'm always looking for a good theme and this sounds like it's going to be awesome!!!

Side note: Is there any information as to what will be included in the demo?

I don't disagree! Would I be happier if it was cheaper, like $29? Absolutely. Am i going to give it a "hard pass" because it's $39? Absolutely not. With CGU still active for me it'll clock in at $34 which I can't complain too much about.

I see it as a new experience and twist on the falling block puzzle games that happens to unashamedly use tetris as its base. From the couple of gameplay videos I watched a long time ago it looked like each "skin" brings with it a new set of rules or ways that the lines clear that you have to adapt to. Admittedly I have had this one mostly on media blackout but I am operating under the belief this isn't just standard tetris.

I envy you. My gaming budget is out for Nov-December due to Smash bros(buying a switch for it) but this is at the top of my list in terms of games I want to buy. With black friday around the corner it seems like such a good time to get a VR for Tetris as well

Seeing all the extra details inserted in every facet of the game to accommodate both beginners and veterans; the game is definitely worth the 40$.

There has never been a Tetris client that looks as good this while also being as robust.

There's no endless mode? Guess I'm sticking to Ubi Tetris for now. PPT endless is too easy that a scrub like me can go infinite at the fastest levels.
There is an endless mode. There are multiple endless modes.
Per the Giant Bomb video, endless is a toggle option on some of the game modes themselves. Marathon Mode has an endless toggle, which is probably the most important one. I haven't seen a list yet of what options are available for what modes, but Marathon also lets you pick starting speed as well, based on the video.

So still no word as to why Best Buy shifted their date an entire week later? Amazon is still showing the 9th.

That sucks, I didn't notice that. I wish PSN would let you use discount codes on preorders, would just get it digitally then. Oh well, guess I'm gonna have to wait a week longer :(

Any idea when the demo will go live?

I'll send a kissogram to the person who will share first the full song from the trailer.
I hope the soundtrack will be fully available too.
God I wish I could afford one of these VR apparatus.

"Re: Tetris Effect Release Date Change & Preorder Bonus Question

Good Morning everyone-

Thank you for your patience while we looked into the street date change and pre-order bonus issues for Tetris Effect.

Our support team got back to me overnight to let me know that we've changed our street date due to an inventory delay. Because this inventory is arriving later than expected, the release date has been updated to reflect the date we expect to be able to fulfill orders, which is 11/16/18.

Regarding the pre-order bonus, we have received the details on it and it is being set up in our systems. Once it's set up by our support team, it should reflect on BestBuy.com here and should be added to new pre-orders. Existing pre-orders should have the bonus sent to them via email at release."

So yeah, they are saying it's some sort of inventory issue. It's a bummer, too, because I kinda don't wanna wait for their release, but 20% off is nice with GCU. At least they now have the pre-order bonus up, which is new for them as of today.

Ah! OK. Well I still want the disc and the GCU discount, so I'm fine waiting a little bit. I'll just play the demo a bit more than I would have to tide me over.

I just canceled my old pre-order (since it didn't have the bonus attached to the order) and re-ordered the game. If you do that, shows you should still get the pre-order bonus items on the 9th, which is interesting. But I agree with just waiting a bit for it. I'd rather have a physical copy anyway, but good to see they will still give out the extras in advance.

I am most likely going to pre order, as I am wore out on Lumines and just finished Astrobot.

Just waiting for the demo to seal the deal.

I was a bit worried at the pricepoint as I had no idea how much the game would offer content wise, but the giant bomb video melted those worries away. Now all that remains to be seen is how much fun I actually have with the demo.

Preordered digitally, this is the first time I've ever been hyped to play a puzzle game before, but I couldn't resist Tetris with a style like this.

I recorded an 80 minute video of the demo that goes through all of the options available & game modes in case someone wants to see it and can't play:

Wow...just played the demo. I was already sold on it cause I'm a fan of Tetris but DAMN this looks amazing.

Here's a video of a stage where random effects are thrown at you during gameplay. Things can go 0-100 real quick with some of these:

Wondered how they were going to justify 40 dollars, but then I saw all the modes in the game and was like....yeah, I'd pay 60. I personally would pay anything since it's a Miz game. Looking forward to getting lost in the demo this weekend, and then downloading the full game and all the extras a week later.

This is PS4 exclusive, right?

Timed most likely.

This will be an easy double dip when/if it hits Switch. And they'd be dumb to not port it there.
